Tour Survival Guide: The Feeling

Feeling

Now and then our Tour Survival Guide will check in with rockers about life on the road. Here’s Dan Gillespie Sells from the Feeling talking legos, warm-ups and a little something called “Gig-Ade.”

The Magic Gig Elixir
It’s really hard to do a gig without single-malt scotch whiskey. [Guitarist] Kevin [Jeremiah] has a gig cocktail — four espresso coffees, in a big pint cup, with whiskey and honey. It helps him through the show. He calls that Gig-Ade. It’s good for the voice and it keeps you going.

No Legos, No Rawk
We always ask for Legos. By the time we finish the tour, we’ve got our own Lego village going on. I did a road sweeper once — it was the most complicated road sweeper ever. Once we got a helicopter — that was more Legos for older kids. It was a bit too complicated for us. Especially after too much whiskey.

Up Next: The Feeling Warm You Up
We do vocal warm-ups with silly songs — one song is "My Skin Is Falling Off." You’ve got to sing something to warm your voice up and it ends being some mad song in a four-part harmony. Another is called "Sing Like a Telephone Ring." They’re slowly being formed into masterpieces as we tour. As we go on, they develop verses. We should release them as a warm-up CD for other bands.

Tour Buses Are Better Than Ambien…
I love sleeping on the bus. I catch up on sleep on the bus. It rocks and sways, and it’s got this rumble and it makes me sleep. Sleeping on the bunks is like climbing into a catacomb.

Good Night, Cleveland!
I always say I’m in the wrong town. They have the name of the town printed on the set list for me, and I still do it every time! I said “Los Angeles” when I was in San Francisco. I’m not stupid, I just have this thing where I shout the wrong name.
