Is Adrianne Curry the new Cornell West? Maybe! The VH1 Celebreality goddess has set the Internet on fire via her outspoken, somewhat curious views on race that she posted on her MySpace blog.
It all started Wednesday, when Adrianne took to the Internet, railing against Jesse Jackson‘s claim that Barack Obama was “acting like’s white.” Adrianne ranted (all sic, obviously): “For someone to take a jab at someone for not acting like “their race”, I think it proves that THEY ARE RACIST! (something I have always felt when watching Jesse Jackson)Let me just say that if I am expected to act a certain way because of my skin color, tell me what NOT to do! Like HELL if I am going to try to “act” like an Italian mut, or except anyone else who thinks that is OK. We are all brothers and sisters on this planet.” She concluded her post with some words about O.J. Simpson and added Morgan Freeman‘s branding of Black History Month as “ridiculous” as a sort of post script. And that’s when the real fun began!
Two days later, Adrianne put up a post titled “MY Boycott against BET and Black History Month.” Inspired by Freeman’s words, Adrianne took to task those she perceives as separatists. “I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.” Adrianne goes on to call for “NO MORE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ANYONE WITH ANYTHING!” which makes her support of affirmative-action proponent Barack Obama fascinating, to say the least. She concludes her post by saying, “now, have fun burning me at the stake ; ).”
People did (the post has 1249 comments and counting!), which turned out to be not so fun for her, and so she left yet another postscript, explaining: “I have a confession…The topic here (black history month/BET) is not what my message was about..>I just knew it would get a lot more attention if I used it as an example. My message is to BECOME ONE. AMERICANS, celebrate things as such, not label them this or that…Black History month should NOT go away…but it should have it’s name changed to AMERICAN HISTORY..and be made into a few months…to teach us EVERYTHING about our history…not just focus on one race.”
Finally, Adrianne wrote yet another post to “clarify” her previous thoughts, which she admits were written in “such a hurry and a fury” (check the half-rhyme!). “…Separating our races sounds like racism to me. It just does. So go ahead, claim I am the one who is ignorant for wanting us all to be EQUAL! Can you believe that? How does that make a fucking lick of sense? Honor your heritage, I know I do. Just make sure that by doing so, you do not seperate yourself from the rest of us! Black History to me would be everything that happened in AFRICA.”
Adrianne concludes by calling for the teaching of more history, and admitting, “I need to learn to relax on my impulse and calm down before I share. ; ).” Come on, A! That wouldn’t be very fun, now would it? [Adrianne Curry's MySpace blog]
