Mariah’s Lip Synching - From Obvious to Painfully Obvious
The clip above comes from Mariah Carey’s performance on today’s episode of Good Morning America, and it shows an Ashlee Simpson-level snafu. At the start of her “Touch My Body” performance, her backing track comes in too early. And then a second backing track, so that the song takes on a singing-in-the-round effect. Mariah plays it off without so much as a jig, and sings the rest mostly live. But then, after the bridge a particularly impassioned pre-recorded “Touch my body!” rings out, and Mariah coos to a backup singer, “Stop singing my parts, now baby!” Uh, isn’t singing your part exactly what backing tracks are supposed to do? You’re an idiot! A backing track began playing in the background?? Big whoop!! Everyone uses a backing track.. Just a few days ago Leona had one playing while performing on Idol..
Mariah WAS NOT miming to the song.. She sang it COMPLETELY differently and even involved the audience with certain phrases during the song (e.g. when she’d say “Sing” or “What?” to boost audience involvement).. She was 100% live, the only problem was there was technical difficulties at the beginning.. What’s the big deal?? Get over it and stop trying to create drama!

a backing track error happened…it was a major glitch
she sung live…pls atleast hear the performance fully.

The backing track screwed up so she had no choice but to sing it live. That obviously wasn’t the original plan.

I don’t understand how these singers, who make millions and millions of dollars, have the gall to go on stage, in front of a camera, and lip sync. they’re all guilty of it from time to time, not just mariah. britney, celine, ashlee, and more. mariah used to be able to sing… did you see her on the vh1 unplugged show, like a billion years ago? if you can only sing in the studio, you don’t need to go in front of a crowd, lip sync to prerecorded lyrics, while your back up dancers and band do all the work.

Mariah was singing soft at the beginning with a backup singer singing it but when she said Stop singing my part, now baby she started singing it

WOW!!!!!….i must be the first to say that i’m not a big fan of mariah Carey performances because I feel that she tends to be stiff despite how beautifully her voices flows, but on this occasion i would have to say my impression of Mariah as a performer changed. I feel that she handle the mess up very well. WHY YOU ASK??? 1.Instead of trying to catch up with the clearly defective back drop, Mariah just did a few good ad libs til the hook came around 2.she proved to the people that although there was a background sound, she was still singing and could still hold it down. & 3.she never freaked out, unlike Ashlee Simpson who freaking went into panic.(NEVER COMPARE THE TWO AGAIN PLEASE) ….BUT HANDS DOWN!!!!!…THE FUNNIEST THING ABOUT THIS WHOLE THING HAS GOT TO BE WHEN SHE TRIED TO PLAY IT OFF AND TELL THE BACKGROUND SINGER TO STOP SINGING HER PART…i blame the background singer, because if you pay attention closely, Mariah kept trying to give her “THE EYE” and tell her to stop singing…STUFF LIKE THAT THROWS PERFORMERS OFF!!!!…that background singer think she slick…tryna steal the spot light…LMAO…and im out

If you listen to the studio version of TMB there are three Mariah’s singing. One in the whisper tone, one in her lower register and one digitized. In order to recreate that sound they play the backing track so she can have an easier transition to the b-verse i.e. “if there’s a camera up in here…” otherwise it’s almost impossible to sing this song.

I love Mariah to death, Migrate is my favorite song right now, but that did not sound good.
But look on the bright side - at least she didn’t start square dancing like Ashlee Simpson.

She didnt lip sync, that part is obvious. maybe they had some cuing up issues, but she had a overzealous background singer singin her part almost louder than she was. She had to relay the message to the background singer to not sing her part and she did that. I consider it one of the best live recoveries ever.
Its funny to see how the media influences people though. They saw it for themselves and yet still take the writers opinion. “Lipsyncer!! Mimer!!” How the hell do you mime a song? Mariah, if you ever read this, pay no attention to the Sheep.

This is prerecorded.
Meaning she could drop her vocal anytime whenever she wants it. Her voice blends with live and pre-recorded version.
This is however NOT 100% live anymore! Sad………
