I Know My Kid’s a Star Recap - Episode 7 - Host-ility
On this episode, the mothers’ claws come out…
…and the kids are right there to show just how impressionable they are!
The episode begins with Danny busting in the house at 6 a.m. yelling for everyone to wake up. His cock-a-doodle-doing makes him something like a plucked rooster — featherless but red all over. No one’s happy about this, which is best illustrated in Pam’s general appearance.
And really, having everyone get up and immediately appear on camera may be the least humane move this show has ever pulled.
Danny tells them they have an hour to get prepared to convene on his turf. The endlessly savvy Helene realizes that this must mean…
Her correspondingly savvy daughter realizes that this must mean…
…it’s time to turn on.
It turns out that Helene is correct.
First the parents are interviewed. Danny acts like the spark in this psychological powder keg, asking which mother deserves to be voted off. Shannon pipes up by naming Helene, since she lives with her mother.
“Spoken by a true beauty-pageant queen, there,” counters Helene. Shannon shoots back, “I can’t help that!” as though being a pageant queen is hardwired into her DNA. IT’S NOT A CHOICE! Danny asks which kid will end up in rehab first. Shannon and Gigi both agree that it’s Mary Jo. “On her way!” says Gigi, as though the pressure she puts on Alai isn’t enough to drive a fish to drink. At one point, Gigi tosses in, “Pam’s also been married to a man who dresses like a woman,” much to Shannon’s delight.
Pam basically confirms this in a solo interview, explaining that the marriage was short and she doesn’t really talk about her husbands. I wish she would more often: this only makes her whole situation more fascinating. Although, equally awesome is another thing she says during a solo interview: “Gigi is just an evil bitch.” Heh. That’s a season-wide summary of one person’s character arc if ever there were.
Also fascinating: Shannon doesn’t know what a casting couch is. Being in Hollywood must be like being on another planet. She doesn’t understand these creatures and their strange ways! Soon the parents are dismissed and they get about 15 minutes to prep their kids for their interview.
As the moms look on…
…the kids answer Danny’s questions, and they’re just as cutthroat as their parents.
Between kids shouting over each other, Danny wonders who’s the biggest brat. Mary Jo pipes up and says it’s Alai. She adds that Alai shouldn’t be there because, “she’s not that talented.” These kids are just endlessly adorable. Speaking of, Cheyenne does a hyper impersonation of…her mom? One of the moms?
All of the moms? Rocky? And then she launches into an impromptu sales pitch when Danny asks who should be the next kid star (cutting off McKenzie, btw)…
“Um, I think that I’m really the next child star ’cause I just live to perform. Like, singing, see I’ll just sing right on the spot. (Sings a few lines from Heart’s ‘Alone.’) See I’m always ready to perform. I’m always on! On! On!” I would love to know exactly what she’s on so I can get some for myself.
Alai asks if she can deliver a monologue she and her mom wrote.
It’s this and it’s weird. The whole time she’s saying it, I can only imagine that bug character they had to voice in the voice-over challenge. Suddenly, I’m sooo in the mood for a picnic!
After Alai’s monologue, the interview challenge is over. At home, more casting couch discussion ensues. Helene points out how common it is to some mild protesting by Shannon. Helene sums up the mindset thusly: “They don’t know what the casting couch is, but you know what? They know how to marry men for money and they know how to have men pay for their fake boobs. So you know what? Pah to that!”
Hmmm. I’m still on the fence as to whether or not “Pah to that!” is a worthy successor to Rocky’s, “So bam!” And speaking of Rocky, I so wish that she were around for the casting couch conversation. No matter where she falls on the matter, you know what she’d have to say about it would be uniquely…her. But I suppose you could say that for any issue.
Then we see Gigi and Shannon talking outside about today’s challenge.
Gigi imitates Cheyenne’s singing, amusingly but not accurately. She also tells Alai of her plans for Pam, since she feels that Mary Jo unfairly attacked Alai during the radio interview.
“I’m gonna rip into her and her daughter so bad she’ll wish that she was never here. And if Helene wants to get into it, I got some stuff to say to her, too. So…” Pass that dish, mom. We’re having resentment family-style tonight!
Meanwhile, Helene and Pam talk because they have some sort of makeshift alliance or something.
“I just hope the end of this doesn’t get really vicious,” says Helene. Uh, too late. Too late by, like, a whole challenge. To wit, Gigi soon comes in and asks to speak with Pam. Pam wonders if this will yield screaming and explains to Gigi, “I’m not gonna give you your drama moment.” If this were a Secret Santa, her words might hold some weight, because you know that no matter what, Gigi’s gonna take her drama moment. And so she does.
She feels as though Pam set Mary Jo up to throw Alai under the bus. Mary Jo has the wherewithal to initiate her own under-the-bus-throwing, thank you very much! Their shouting escalates to the point of hilarity: Gigi tells Pam, “Take your ass back to Celebration, Fla.!” With a name like Celebration, who wouldn’t want to return? The conversation ends with Pam leaving the room and Gigi vowing to kick her ass. You knkow she wouldn’t do it, but hey, it’s the thought that counts.
Danny comes over with a new challenge: the kids will try out for a hosting gig.
Preparation ensues. Alai throws too many words into her reading. Business as usual.
Then, auditions take place.
McKenzie is up first…
She’s pretty big and over-the-top, but it kinda words given the set-up. Marki likes it. When she’s done, McKenzie says, “I don’t know why, but I remind myself of Dr. Phil.” It’s probably the alopecia.
Alai stops after every line, like she’s reading a telegraph. This is how Gigi advised her to do it, so she owns up to it being her fault. That’s more than I’d ever expect from Gigi. Kudos!
Cheyenne is oddly subdued to the point of erasing her identity, according to Marki. It’s like she’s taking whatever McKenzie is hiding under her lettuce.
Mary Jo is bubbly and natural. She’s so great that Marki doesn’t have a single note for her. Imagine rendering Marki speechless! Imagine!
And then: more smack-talking with Gigi.
“If Pam tries to verbally whatever, I will rip her. I will shred her.” Hold on there, Freddy Krueger. What if Pam tries to verbally juggle poodles. That’d be worth not shredding her just to see it play out, right?
While Gigi’s talking, Pam’s listening.
And then, after Alai catches her, the jig is up.
Gigi’s response to the news?
“Tell Robin to come around from the corner and face Batman.” Funny that she calls herself “Batman” but acts like Catwoman. Reow! But also, how awesome would it be to see Gigi dressed up like Batman during the elimination round?
No such luck, though. Marki’s more critical than usual in the parents-only portion: McKenzie got lost, Cheyenne was too fake (she gave too much and too little, respectively, in this week’s challenges), Alai was too monologuey and Mary Jo was too awesome. Marki asks how things are in the house and she might as well be asking if anyone’s ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light.
Pam explains that Gigi accused her of setting up Mary Jo to go after Alai. That’s a chain of communication that spans generations. Gigi flips out…
The highlight? “Where’s the ponytail you wear? It’s probably up Helene’s butt.” Shoving a ponytail up someone’s butt sounds like a logistical nightmare, to say the least.
Anyway, Gigi’s outburst pretty much proves Danny’s suspicions: Gigi, simply, is not ready for Hollywood and she is sent home.
On the way out, Gigi tells Alai to have more confidence, which is a hard thing to just will, especially when you’re being commanded to do so. HOWEVER, it is impressive that Gigi shows affection to both Mary Jo…
…and her daughter.
I really thought that Gigi was going to come down hard on Alai for being eliminated. The shot above is about the most reassuring one that’s ever run on this blog.

i Know My kids a Star…From Pam
I decided again to write a blog here and again let me say that I will not go on the message boards. I do have someone that watches and if he thinks I need to respond I will tell him what to write. I will not change my mind about this.
As for the episode about the voting. To answer the questions I will do so here and you can stop asking. The truth about what reallty took place is this….At the beginning Gigi and I decided to vote that way but what you didn’t see is what they edited or did not get because we were all in the bathroom. Sandy, Shannon, Gigi and I got together the four of us after that and decided how we were going to vote. From the very beginning I was to vote for Gian and Gigi knew this. Gigi was NOT suppose to vote for Mary jo and she only did because if she had voted for Gian or Mckenzie then there would have been an opportunity for them to get immunity. Gigi knew that sandy was voting for Mckenzie and i would vote for Gian. I am sure she would have never voted Cheyenne and to be honest who would? She had three immunities already and we knew she most likely would not go anyway so she was safe. At the audition I got upset with Shannon saying to her that she changed the game and she told me “Don’t blame me it was your friend who did it”. Then when we went to vote Gigi came out and told me she voted for Mary Jo. She expected me to change what the plan was but I did not. from the very beginning I did not want to vote because I knew the vote would truly not be about who was the best for most of us. I truly wanted Danny and Marki not to put us on the spot like this and felt it unfair to the children.What really happened was Gigi went behind my back to try and convince those to vote for Alai. I did not care though because she was doing what was best for Alai so how could I fault her?
I was NEVER angry with Gigi but I was extremely tired of all the drama. At the time I was so over things myself and did not want to hear anymore yelling and acting crazy. (After this I felt for Rocky as Gigi attacked her as well). In fact so tired that I requested an exit interview as I did not feel the environment was one I wanted Mary Jo in anymore. This was well known to the other mom’s because on the elimination stage Danny asked all of them one by one if they knew I had done that. It was ONLY for Mary Jo that I stayed. Mary Jo cried and asked me please so I stayed as long as she stayed next to me. I take it seriously when a mom threatens to “I went after your daughter”. So the deal was Mary Jo had to stay by me at all times. Sad but true! When Mary Jo said “this is stupid” she was referring to that.
Helene did say on the elimination stage that Gigi and Shannon both came to her and talked with her about the vote. Although that part was edited. But I did not talk with Helene at all. It was Sandy and I that voted as we were suppose to and Gigi knows it. Gigi also knows the other editing that took place and what the “real” story is. Shannon decided to vote for Alai and did think Alai did the best job. To be honest I will have to say my loyalty goes to Mary jo above and beyond my friends as she is my child. I will stand by that and have no problem sleeping at night. No matter what went down I can promise you now and always I would do what is in Mary Jo’s best interest.
The reason I did not feel the need to talk with Gigi was I had nothing to explain. Given the fact that Gigi has gone on all the boards her and her friends and posted nonsense I decided to put the truth down here.
As for the radio show ..danny asked all the kids (prior to Mary saying alai was a brat) who would go to rehab and Alai was quick to say Mary Jo. this hurt Mary’s feelings and yes she did attack back. Not because I sent her to do so but because she was hurt. I did not condone it and said two wrongs don’t make a right. Twelve year old girls need no help throwing people under the bus. They can do a great job all by themselves.
Does this show mislead at times…no doubt. this is a reality TV show after all. I would have NEVER taken the time to explain this but it seems as though Gigi is STILL intent on going all over the internet and trying to hurt Mary Jo. Mary Jo is a child and she does not deserve to be hounded by an adult.
In fact on the boards on vh1.com Gigi wrote a blog to me and Alai wrote to Mary Jo and they were not very nice. I will have to say that Mary and I wish only the best for Gigi and Alai and we hope that they can move on. We would be thrilled to see ANY of the kids on the show in a movie or TV etc. Yes, that does include Cheyenne as well. They are all kids and should n ot be dragged down still after this show was taped in August 2007.
One more question then I am done…the 35,000 remark was taken out of context and Mary and I have been to NewYork now 26 times. The money went to sublet in Manhatten as well as food, plane tickets, etc. It gets expensive in NY to say the least. the quality time I had with Mary Jo was worth alot more than 35,000 so I am so blessed to have had the opportunity.

PS…Mary’s dad does not wear women’s clothes…lol He is a great father and we were married ten years. I have now been married close to seven years to Mary’s stepdad..He could never fit in my clothes…lol
I also heard where I solicited sex from my former bosses. That is way to funny and if they knew this would laugh as well. Most were women and Idon’t go that way and never have. A few were men but were only terrific bosses and NOTHING more. I swear some people are so very petty and take time to write such nonsense.
As to the questions about my finances that is no ones business and I will not explain and don’t feel the need. I will say I am always happy to spend money on my kids if I have it.
The question rather I graduated from highschool…yes in 1988 Auburndale high School my last name was Mathews.
As to my father…he was a Nazarene minister. No he was not a pimp and that was one of the better lies…lol
As to Mary Jo having ten stepfathers…please she has had one for almost seven years and she had another for nine months and that was it. He never had any influence in her life at all. She loves her stepdad she has but also has a wonderful father who is very active in her life.
As for Mary’s grades that someone said she had bad ones….lol again… She has great grades straight A’s in fact. Her fcat testing last year and in the fifth grade were some of the highest scores in the county. she is an excellent student.
As for rehab… we have no worries and no plans for it. however if any person in my household ever needed it I would be happy to say they went and got help and are now free of that monkey on their back. So..kudos to anyone out there who has been and has kicked the habit. It shows a person who didn’t let it kill them and worked hard at correcting a mistake they made.

To the haters…Mary jo’s sites ALL OF THEM are heavily monitored at all times. It is a waste of your time to post negative, hurtful comments to her as she will never see them. So don’t bother but if you still insist then realize that Mary and I do not see comments until the web administrator decides we should. Then most of the comments/mail we see are very posiive and we try very hard to write back in a timely manner.
To the supporters…Thanks so very much for all your kind emails, videos, posts, fan sites, etc. You guys have been so wonderful and we both feel truly blessed to have you on our side.

not all black people are from the same “race”, just as not all white people are from the same “race”.
the concept of “race” is a bit more complicated than how one looks, acts, etc.
this is how i know the original poster is ignorant.
people with dark skin are all over the world - hell, there are indians with darker skin than masai and curlier hair than many tongoans i know and there are trinis with lighter skin than scadinavians.
there is a huge population of black mexicans.
the concept of being white is a fad, as we all are aware, if you’ve taken american history in school, that irish, polish and italians were not always considered “white”, and some still aren’t.
what is white today is not white tomorrow.
and not all people who you may consider “black” in america have american roots or are even 2+ generational americans. there are many, MANY people who are passing as “white” today who can easily trace their ancestors to african slaves. these people cannot be categorized nor should they be.
so, for any person to base parental skills on a concept such as “black” has got to be thee most dull knife of the bunch.
let’s give more credit (or blame, depending your preference) to environment and spirit and education and experiences than appearances.
let’s be smart, guys.

I believe she’s an awful parent, awful coach, awful everything. She has no idea how to train or handle her child without letting frustration control her and warp her actions.
Her daughter is so obviously terrified of her and it reflects in her very mediocre performance.
Plus - she’s an awful woman, so loud, just making everyone feel uncomfortable, always causing arguments, clearly trying to rattle the other mothers. She’s an awful, awful woman and it irritates me to no end to watch her. She curses in front of the children not to mention fights, argues, and basically flies off the handle. She makes everything personal, making fun of hair weaves and not focusing on making her daughter better - which should be her real focus.

I posted to show how Pam handles things in such a great way. You guys have made this a racial matter on this board. Attacking a little girl who is 12 years old. No, I did not hear Mary Jo say any curse word at all. Just another made up lie by you and your racil driven attitude.
I don’t know Pam but frankly after reading these boards I love her. You guys that say you support Gigi are the most hateful people and I would never support anyone that you do. Gigi is so very hateful and only people like you guys would support her. Or, let me guess you support her because she’s black also!!

this is to all,,the die-hard people on here who refuse to accept the fact that the posts put on here are not from Gigi..

No I don’t really think that the 3 people I posted to care what I think. You said it best…they have their opinion and I have mine. As for you being a Gigi supporter, that wasn’t even my point. Personally, I don’t give a cr@p who you root for…that’s your preference. I was speaking more to the fact that some people on this blog seem to be trying to turn this “competition” into a racial forum and this just doesn’t seem like the board/blog for it. Apparently you read my post but sadly you didn’t or couldn’t comprehend it.
Next you try to tell me how “they” can’t be trusted and “want to steal our men and be like us” and how I can be neutral for the rest of my life but that the “rest of us are aware of the bigotry and prejudice in this country”… Again, what does this have to do with THIS show? Then you so eloquently announce “I AM NOT PREJUDICE”. How sad. You post in caps but think in lower case. I might have blinders on, but at least I know the direction in which I’m going.

davidjon I only saw one or two post where GiGi posted under her name, so you could be Mary Jo or Pam or a family member instructed by Pam and Mary Jo to bash themselves for sympathy. You ain’t no Psychologist, if you was you would be talking about what could be the root of GiGi’s problem instead of accusing her of bashing Pam everytime there is a negative post about her and calling her all kind of cruel names. You must not have any patients or work to catch up on. If you are a Psychologist throw some terms out a Psychologists would use, or give us the name of a few medications GiGi should be taking, Trade and Generic Names and why? or even a diagnosis for this condition GiGi might be suffering with…..PUH..LEEZE.

My goodness I pray these feuding mothers find piece and can move on with there lives and concertrate on their children. It seems very sad to me that the show is don e filming and it is stili going on with some of them. If you are do not post on vh1…from Pam
To anyone that is posting on vh1 trying to support Mary Jo please do not!
You guys all need to understand that we love all of you and appreciate all your support but I do not want any of you posting there. If you want to post to us please do it through Mary’s website or here.
We have a webmaster and he handles all of these things but ONLY if it involves out and out liable slander. Anything else there is absolutely no need.
I have spoke to Willam and have found out that some of his friends have posted as well. Please don’t do this. Read the blog but ignore ALL the posts.
What you guys need to remember is you are above this and don’t stoop to that level. I know that Gigi is on the boards trying to hurt Mary Jo and I but you see I don’t care. She is not worth wasting your time on. You need to pray for her and Alai and ask God to help her and leave it at that. No matter what you do she will only drag you down if you buy into her games. Don’t Do IT!!!!
I would never ever want any of you to support Mary Jo and I by putting others down. This is not who we are! You never once heard me put ANY child down on that show and you never will. They can’t edit what never happened. Children are children and they are not the enemy they are the victims.
To all of my son’s wonderful friends! I love all of you so very much and all of you should know by now I am very secure with who I am and the kind of mom I am. You don’t need to defend me from people who are haters and have issues. What you need to do is remember compassion and pray for them. There are many out there and all are lost and missing happiness in their lives.
Don’t get caught up in Gigi’s games please ,please, please. I never did!!
It bothers me much more that this show is having a negative impact on you guys that you feel the need to defend and it should not. Haters only win if you let them pure and simple. You control how you handle things in life. Trust me life is way to short to worry about Gigi and people like her. Don’t ever let meaningless words bother you. Don’t ever let nonsense lies bother you. Be true to what you believe in and know that you never need to defend against hate all you need to do is hold your head up high and walk away knowing that you are above all of it.
I love all of your support but please, please, please, don’t post anything on vh1 again. Reading the blogs is one thing reading the posts that Gigi and her friends are posting is a waste of your time.
I have no idea who has posted or how many but if this does include you I hope that you will listen and understand that walking away is so much better than stooping to that low of a level.
I sincerely hope that in the next few days I do not hear that there are anymore posts on there from any of Will’s friends. I promise that Will is never going to post again. I did speak with him and you guys can as well. William is the greatest son I could have ever been blessed with and his heart is good. Everyone of you know this so when he thinks me or his sister are being put down he does come to our defense. This I dearly love him for but he understands now why that isn’t neccessary under the circumstances.
If you do anything for me then stop and don’t ever let people get to you by vicious words. Always rise above that nonsense and consider the source.

To HK : I really don’t give a RATS @SS what your daughter’s ethnicity is, She must not be all white or else you would have shouted it out with the quickness. Maybe Hanna Montana was supposed to be mixed but it looks like someone changed their mind doesn’t it? Maybe they were right to go with a White girl, judging from Cheyenne’s talent they would have been highly disappointed going with a mixed girl, makes you think huh? I just bet you can’t tell us how much you hug and kiss your child, judging from the show it is very little cause that was something we rarely saw from you. And yes Helene you made it America’s business when you dragged your daughter into this bloodbath for your own selfish gain. A lot of people wondered if she was of island origin, or mixed or whatever. If you were embarrassed maybe you should have stayed home.
when did Cheyenne’s background become an issue, maybe I missed that episode! I simply asked what was her Nationality?
I agree GiGi showed her natural black @ss on the show but Alai is her daughter and no matter what, Alai is a very thoughtful sweet young lady. GiGi had something to do with that, she is being reared properly as everyone can see by her behavior on the show.

hey i just wanted to say that pam an mary jo are amazing and mary jo is not a brat at all she is in fact a sweet girl. i @)~ ume some of these things posted about mary jo may be being posted by gigi just like on rocky’s blog.if that’s the case don’t be immature then gigi. And the comment about comparing Gigi and Rocky was completley crazy and untrue.Everyone knows Rocky has talent and Gigi doesn’t and Rocky unlike Gigi doesn’t constantly pick fights or screaming matches with others and did not accuse anyone of anything(weaves you know what i am tlaking about)and Gigi unlike Rocky provokes people and gets in their faces.So you all need to get your facts straight if you think Rocky and Gigi are similiar you are dead wrong Rocky is much more mature and a way better person then gigi.
