I Know My Kid’s a Star Recap - Episode 7 - Host-ility

On this episode, the mothers’ claws come out…

ikmkas_7_11.jpg

…and the kids are right there to show just how impressionable they are!

The episode begins with Danny busting in the house at 6 a.m. yelling for everyone to wake up. His cock-a-doodle-doing makes him something like a plucked rooster — featherless but red all over. No one’s happy about this, which is best illustrated in Pam’s general appearance.

ikmkas_7_1.jpg

And really, having everyone get up and immediately appear on camera may be the least humane move this show has ever pulled.

Danny tells them they have an hour to get prepared to convene on his turf. The endlessly savvy Helene realizes that this must mean…

ikmkas_7_2.jpg

Her correspondingly savvy daughter realizes that this must mean…

ikmkas_7_3.jpg

…it’s time to turn on.

It turns out that Helene is correct.

ikmkas_7_4.jpg

First the parents are interviewed. Danny acts like the spark in this psychological powder keg, asking which mother deserves to be voted off. Shannon pipes up by naming Helene, since she lives with her mother.

ikmkas_7_5.jpg

Spoken by a true beauty-pageant queen, there,” counters Helene. Shannon shoots back, “I can’t help that!” as though being a pageant queen is hardwired into her DNA. IT’S NOT A CHOICE! Danny asks which kid will end up in rehab first. Shannon and Gigi both agree that it’s Mary Jo. “On her way!” says Gigi, as though the pressure she puts on Alai isn’t enough to drive a fish to drink. At one point, Gigi tosses in, “Pam’s also been married to a man who dresses like a woman,” much to Shannon’s delight.

ikmkas_7_6.jpg

Pam basically confirms this in a solo interview, explaining that the marriage was short and she doesn’t really talk about her husbands. I wish she would more often: this only makes her whole situation more fascinating. Although, equally awesome is another thing she says during a solo interview: “Gigi is just an evil bitch.” Heh. That’s a season-wide summary of one person’s character arc if ever there were.

Also fascinating: Shannon doesn’t know what a casting couch is. Being in Hollywood must be like being on another planet. She doesn’t understand these creatures and their strange ways! Soon the parents are dismissed and they get about 15 minutes to prep their kids for their interview.

ikmkas_7_7.jpg

As the moms look on…

ikmkas_7_9.jpg

…the kids answer Danny’s questions, and they’re just as cutthroat as their parents.

ikmkas_7_10.jpg

Between kids shouting over each other, Danny wonders who’s the biggest brat. Mary Jo pipes up and says it’s Alai. She adds that Alai shouldn’t be there because, “she’s not that talented.” These kids are just endlessly adorable. Speaking of, Cheyenne does a hyper impersonation of…her mom? One of the moms?

ikmkas_7_11.jpg

All of the moms? Rocky? And then she launches into an impromptu sales pitch when Danny asks who should be the next kid star (cutting off McKenzie, btw)…

ikmkas_7_12.jpg

Um, I think that I’m really the next child star ’cause I just live to perform. Like, singing, see I’ll just sing right on the spot. (Sings a few lines from Heart’s ‘Alone.’) See I’m always ready to perform. I’m always on! On! On!” I would love to know exactly what she’s on so I can get some for myself.

Alai asks if she can deliver a monologue she and her mom wrote.

ikmkas_7_13.jpg

It’s this and it’s weird. The whole time she’s saying it, I can only imagine that bug character they had to voice in the voice-over challenge. Suddenly, I’m sooo in the mood for a picnic!

After Alai’s monologue, the interview challenge is over. At home, more casting couch discussion ensues. Helene points out how common it is to some mild protesting by Shannon. Helene sums up the mindset thusly: “They don’t know what the casting couch is, but you know what? They know how to marry men for money and they know how to have men pay for their fake boobs. So you know what? Pah to that!

ikmkas_7_14.jpg

Hmmm. I’m still on the fence as to whether or not “Pah to that!” is a worthy successor to Rocky’s, “So bam!” And speaking of Rocky, I so wish that she were around for the casting couch conversation. No matter where she falls on the matter, you know what she’d have to say about it would be uniquely…her. But I suppose you could say that for any issue.

Then we see Gigi and Shannon talking outside about today’s challenge.

ikmkas_7_15.jpg

Gigi imitates Cheyenne’s singing, amusingly but not accurately. She also tells Alai of her plans for Pam, since she feels that Mary Jo unfairly attacked Alai during the radio interview.

ikmkas_7_16.jpg

I’m gonna rip into her and her daughter so bad she’ll wish that she was never here. And if Helene wants to get into it, I got some stuff to say to her, too. So…” Pass that dish, mom. We’re having resentment family-style tonight!

Meanwhile, Helene and Pam talk because they have some sort of makeshift alliance or something.

ikmkas_7_17.jpg

“I just hope the end of this doesn’t get really vicious,” says Helene. Uh, too late. Too late by, like, a whole challenge. To wit, Gigi soon comes in and asks to speak with Pam. Pam wonders if this will yield screaming and explains to Gigi, “I’m not gonna give you your drama moment.” If this were a Secret Santa, her words might hold some weight, because you know that no matter what, Gigi’s gonna take her drama moment. And so she does.

ikmkas_7_19.jpg

She feels as though Pam set Mary Jo up to throw Alai under the bus. Mary Jo has the wherewithal to initiate her own under-the-bus-throwing, thank you very much! Their shouting escalates to the point of hilarity: Gigi tells Pam, “Take your ass back to Celebration, Fla.!” With a name like Celebration, who wouldn’t want to return? The conversation ends with Pam leaving the room and Gigi vowing to kick her ass. You knkow she wouldn’t do it, but hey, it’s the thought that counts.

Danny comes over with a new challenge: the kids will try out for a hosting gig.

ikmkas_7_20.jpg

Preparation ensues. Alai throws too many words into her reading. Business as usual.

Then, auditions take place.

ikmkas_7_21.jpg

McKenzie is up first…

ikmkas_7_22.jpg

She’s pretty big and over-the-top, but it kinda words given the set-up. Marki likes it. When she’s done, McKenzie says, “I don’t know why, but I remind myself of Dr. Phil.” It’s probably the alopecia.

ikmkas_7_23.jpg

Alai stops after every line, like she’s reading a telegraph. This is how Gigi advised her to do it, so she owns up to it being her fault. That’s more than I’d ever expect from Gigi. Kudos!

ikmkas_7_24.jpg

Cheyenne is oddly subdued to the point of erasing her identity, according to Marki. It’s like she’s taking whatever McKenzie is hiding under her lettuce.

ikmkas_7_25.jpg

Mary Jo is bubbly and natural. She’s so great that Marki doesn’t have a single note for her. Imagine rendering Marki speechless! Imagine!

And then: more smack-talking with Gigi.

ikmkas_7_26.jpg

If Pam tries to verbally whatever, I will rip her. I will shred her.” Hold on there, Freddy Krueger. What if Pam tries to verbally juggle poodles. That’d be worth not shredding her just to see it play out, right?

While Gigi’s talking, Pam’s listening.

ikmkas_7_27.jpg

And then, after Alai catches her, the jig is up.

ikmkas_7_28.jpg

Gigi’s response to the news?

ikmkas_7_29.jpg

Tell Robin to come around from the corner and face Batman.” Funny that she calls herself “Batman” but acts like Catwoman. Reow! But also, how awesome would it be to see Gigi dressed up like Batman during the elimination round?

No such luck, though. Marki’s more critical than usual in the parents-only portion: McKenzie got lost, Cheyenne was too fake (she gave too much and too little, respectively, in this week’s challenges), Alai was too monologuey and Mary Jo was too awesome. Marki asks how things are in the house and she might as well be asking if anyone’s ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light.

ikmkas_7_30.jpg

Pam explains that Gigi accused her of setting up Mary Jo to go after Alai. That’s a chain of communication that spans generations. Gigi flips out…

ikmkas_7_31.jpg

ikmkas_7_32.jpg

The highlight? “Where’s the ponytail you wear? It’s probably up Helene’s butt.” Shoving a ponytail up someone’s butt sounds like a logistical nightmare, to say the least.

Anyway, Gigi’s outburst pretty much proves Danny’s suspicions: Gigi, simply, is not ready for Hollywood and she is sent home.

ikmkas_7_33.jpg

On the way out, Gigi tells Alai to have more confidence, which is a hard thing to just will, especially when you’re being commanded to do so. HOWEVER, it is impressive that Gigi shows affection to both Mary Jo…

ikmkas_7_34.jpg

…and her daughter.

ikmkas_7_36.jpg

I really thought that Gigi was going to come down hard on Alai for being eliminated. The shot above is about the most reassuring one that’s ever run on this blog.

  11. shannonk Says:

    Mother23,
There seems to be some confusion about McKenzie’s age. She was 9 when she was on the show which was in the summer. She turned 10 in December.

  12. Jennifer Says:

I don’t know why some adults have the need to pick on the children of this show. Honestly it makes me want to say pick on some one your own size. At least if you want to be opininate try it with the adults they can handle i better.

    -Jennifer

  13. gorden Says:

    missy,

only someone that knows gigi or is gigi would go on the board and try and hurt a 12 year old child…then again on the show gigi made it clear she was going after mary jo to hurt her…NOT PAM BUT MARY JO!!! That’s as sick as it gets!! I saw and heard that with my own eyes! All the other stuff unless you heard the mom say it then it is just another mom telling hateful lies!

  14. gorden Says:

    Missy,

“dude” get the point it is obvious your opinion dOES NOT speak for everyone!! Let me once again say that if “nobody” cared that she would not be so very popular on the youtube or myspace. You need to get a grip and realize your little voice does not speak for everyone!!!

DD YOU EVER MEET Pam’s ex husband?? I don’t belive word that Gigi says and I NEVER saw a picture of that!!

Guess what Missy let me post some more posts from imdb.com about gIgi for your reading pleasure…

Your neighbors were right. If your mom treated you like Gigi, she was mentally and verbally abusive. It’s sad that your perspective on normal is warped. I fear for any children you raise. Perhaps when you get your education, you will understand that such behavior is abusive and it certainly isn’t related to race.

    ——————————————————————————–

So you &)$ ume because you mother was abusive that all black mothers are that way? Please, you should know better.

I’m sorry you went through that, but it hardly means all or even many black mothers are like that. Or any mothers.

You can edit stuff out of a show, but you can’t edit stuff in. That child’s fear of her mother is obvious.

If you don’t stand up for what you believe, then you don’t stand for anything

Iguess that shows not everyone agrees with you once again…

  15. missy Says:

    HEY DUDE
GET THE POINT LAST TIME NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOU PAM OR MARYJO OR ANY OF HER MYSPACES WHAT PART OF THAT DONT YOU UNDERSTAND?

WOW YOUR REALLY MAKING ME WONDER MAYBE YOUR THE DUDE PAMS EXHUSBAND DRESSES UP FOR CAUSE YOU ARE IN THIS WAY TO DEEP

WE DONT CARE WE WILL NOT LOOK AT NOR VIEW ANYTHING ABOUT MARYJO.
THE ONLY THING WE WANT TO SEE IS DANNY SEND HER HOME THRUSDAY NIGHT
NOW YOU CAN DO US A FAVOR TELL US WHO WINS SO WE DONT HAVE TO HEAR MARYJO’ NAME AGAIN

OH YOU CANT YOU DONT KNOW EITHER SO GIVE IT A REST ONLY A DESPARATE OR BORED AND LONEY PERVERT WOULD GO OVER ALL THE MESSAGES AND BOARDS FOR A LITTLE GIRL HE DOENT KNOW

GO GET A JOB OR THERAPY JUST GO AWAY NOTHING YOU SAY HURTS ME I JUST THINK YOUR A CHILD-MOLESTER OR SOMETHING YOUR TOO WRAPPED UP IN THAT LITTLE GIRL
    HHMMMMMMMTHATS SCARY

  16. gorden Says:

    Lil momma,

LOL LOL…you once again want to make it about race…it’s about people such as yourself not what color you may or may not be. I don’t care about the color of someones skin it’s about their harshness and abusive posts on a 12 year old child. It is sickening to say the least and that shows your character. In all my posts I have not once wrote harmful things about a child but you and your littlt group has over and over. I don’t like your group (gigi)

  17. gorden Says:

    lil momma, aka Gigi…lol

Trust me I am not pam but could careless about your thoughts. Have you ever once thought about it like this…I just don’t like your little group of people trying to hurt a child! Of course not that would be hard for you to comprehend!

  18. gorden Says:

I was posting what the fans on her youtube site are writing…there are almost 1000 comments in all with her videos and channel comments so if you would like to read them you can. http://www.youtube.com/maryjowold

I have watched every episode myself….and reading her youtube so has most her fans.

Guess not everyone shares your opinions as you thought…lol
It seems 1000 commentssays alot oh and also she has over 85,000 views now according to her fansite run by other kids.

I also just read she is on another site called….www.marysteenscene.com
This is not a fansite just a coincidence with the name. The kids that run it have had it up for a couple of years and seem to love Miley and the Jonas brothers and also Mary Jo….go figure…lol

  19. gorden Says:

    Lil momma,

Let me post this for you…lol..not everyone agrees with you..hey, why don’t you write this guy back he is very popular with his write ups..seems he disagrees with you too.

    Had to post this article:)

I Know My Kid’s A Star, Reality TV
    Five Kid Stars Left
    04.25.08 | Permalink | Comment

This week on I Know My Kid’s A Star, the kids audition for a soap opera. The scene had the kids reacting to the news that the mother they thought was dead isn’t dead. They will be auditioning with a real soap star.

Most of the mothers are trying to take a step back and put less pressure on their kids, hoping they’ll do better this audition without too much interference from them. The scene calls for the kids to cry and most of them can’t produce the tears. McKenzie starts crying because she’s afraid of not doing well, but can’t pull those tears out for the scene. Gigi sees McKenzie’s red eyes when she goes to the kitchen and mistakenly thinks McKenzie has been crying on cue while practicing the scene.

The mothers find out that they get to vote on who gets immunity this week and they are not able to vote for themselves. Pam sees Sandy and Shannon helping each other out and thinks they will vote for each other for immunity, so she asks Gigi to go into a similar agreement. They will vote for each other. If it works out that way, the person who gets immunity will be whomever Helene votes for. Helene is sure to vote for the child she sees as the least threat to her daughter, or the worst child actor there. Helene is smug about how she expects her vote to be the tiebreaker vote, and how the other moms are just voting for their friends and not voting strategically. Helene’s smugness is really grating.

McKenzie calls Danny “Mr. Danny” and he tells her it’s weird. She says, “I’m sorry, I’m from the South.” Is it true that kids in the South call adults “Mr.” and their first name? That’s funny!

They arrive for the audition and find out they’ll be acting with Andrea Evans, a soap star. They send their kids to hair, make-up, and wardrobe to prepare for the audition.

Gian auditions first. His mother is convinced he is ready for this and will do well. Gian tries really hard to cry but doesn’t. His acting is decent (better than most child stars on soaps) but it wasn’t great. Marki says she doesn’t think his acting was very good.

McKenzie goes next. Her acting isn’t great, either, but her body language is good. She stumbles on some of the lines but keeps going. She also tries hard to cry, but doesn’t. Marki likes her scene better. Andrea Evans also thinks McKenzie did a great job.

Mary Jo is next. Her acting seems to be the best so far, although no tears. She also looked really cute. Marki and Danny are pleased.

Alai starts doing the scene with a weird accent which she thankfully drops quickly. She got the most emotional in the scene of all the child actors so far. Danny tells her she did a nice job.

Cheyenne’s acting is over-the-top and obnoxious. She cried but she was getting too hysterical for the scene. Marki tells Cheyenne it was too much. Helene is angry, thinking her daughter did great and they were unfair to her. She’s some acting coach if she can’t recognize bad acting!

    Immunity Votes

If I got to vote, I’d vote for Mary Jo, because I thought she did the best job on this task.

Sandy votes for McKenzie and admits it’s because of her friendship with Shannon.

Shannon votes for Alai because she feels Alai is the most improved.

Gigi votes for Mary Jo, claiming it’s because she think Mary Jo has improved, although it might just as well be because of her agreement with Pamela.

Pamela refuses to vote. She says she doesn’t like this vote, and knows that some people won’t vote for the best child, but will vote strategically and it’s not fair. (Gigi is upset with Pamela for going back on their pact). Danny says if Pamela refuses to vote, he’ll send her home. She agrees to vote and votes for Gian. Danny thinks that’s an odd choice and asks why. She admits to voting that way to be strategic.

Everyone now has one vote and it’s Helene’s chance to be the tiebreaker and wield her power. She votes for Alai. So much for Helene being strategic. Gian is obviously the worst. She should have kept him around. Alai is thrilled to win immunity for once.

Gigi feels betrayed by Pam, but Pam doesn’t know what to say to Gigi. She feels she did what she had to do to play the game. Gigi is also mad that Pam wasn’t happy for Alai when she won, so she “$$& es to Sandy and Shannon about Pam. They all decide that Pam is just a sore loser. Gigi goes back and harasses Pam some more and Pam still doesn’t know what to say to Gigi to stop her drama queen antics. Gigi accuses Pam of trying to make her feel bad, but Pam isn’t saying anything to make Gigi feel bad. She just doesn’t know what else to tell her.

As much as I hate that the game is played that way, Pam was playing the game the way it was meant to be played. Danny more than likely knew that and (probably) pretended to be shocked that the women wouldn’t just vote for the best performer. Pam made her vote strategically and what else is there to say to Gigi? If Gigi can’t understand that, it’s Gigi’s own shortsightedness getting in the way. To demand Pam explain herself more is ridiculous. Gigi is the drama queen type who won’t be happy until Pam apologizes, begs for forgiveness, and showers Alai with congratulations for winning - and Pam shouldn’t have to do all that just to stroke Gigi’s ego.

Gigi sends Alai to go ask Mary Jo what is wrong with her mom. That’s stooping pretty low to get the daughters involved in the drama! Next, Gigi tells Alai she wants to give back a shirt that Pam gave her. Then she rants on and on to Alai about how much she can’t stand Pam and she wants to “take her down.” Gigi is so horribly immature that it’s hard to stomach. Alai is sick of being stuck in the middle and tells her mom that God wouldn’t want her to do that. Gigi tries to justify her behavior by saying Pam isn’t godly, either, and Alai has to remind her that two wrongs don’t make a right. Wow, her daughter is more mature than she is!

Cheyenne practices the attitude she plans to give Danny if he sends her home this week. That right there is proof she’s not ready for Hollywood! Talk about sore losers!

Just before the elimination ceremony, Danny and Marki say they think Alai did the best job at the auditions and if they had been choosing who would get immunity, they would have chosen her. They asked how she prepared differently so that she did so much better. Gigi says she didn’t put as much pressure on Alai this week.

Danny and Marki ask Helene why Cheyenne tanked in this audition. Helene says that Cheyenne had this idea that soap operas are over-the-top so she should be, too. Danny and Marki tell her, again, how they didn’t like her getting too emotional too fast and it didn’t work for the scene.

They ask Pam why Mary Jo did things differently this week, and Pam says last week they told Mary Jo to fire Pam as her acting coach, so this week Pam didn’t coach her.

It’s time for Danny to pick someone to go home. Danny says McKenzie has so much personality. Danny says that while he expects the worst from Mary Jo, he thought she gave the most interesting performance this week.

Danny thinks that Gian did bad this week but he has a lot of talent (now if only we got to see his talent). Sandy admits she’s not having a good time doing this, even though Gian is. Danny sends them home. Gian finally brings the tears.

Next week, Gigi will keep trying to fan the drama flames by saying that Mary Jo will end up in rehab. She also starts screaming at Pam. Seriously, this woman needs to be on meds.

    Ahhhh Ms.Serena Thompson-36-New Jersey

I see your comprehension skills are still not level with your reading ability. Again my comment have flown over your head like a little bird. if you noticed, I agreed that everyone had the right to their opinion (that’s why I posted MINE). But, if like you said, you weren’t interested in me or my opinion, you wouldn’t have bothered to respond to it.

As for your college degree, husband, 4 children, beautiful home, wonderful job and nice salary…Congrats! Always like to hear when someone is doing well. My side of the rainbow is pretty great too. You see I can stay up as late as I want, and post or whatever because after a pretty good career, finally retired. As a matter of fact, I really haven’t decided what my next direction will be, but it sure is fun having all the time in the world to find out.

Also she has a How do you like me now contest video up on her youtube that alot of other children have responded to with a video and they are great you should see them. I guess they like her enough to make her videos.

Missy, it is obvious in these videos these are not family or friends they are fans.

Its true that a lot of black mothers are like Gigi and thats whats wrong with many in my race. Why do black parents feel they have to be so strict and domineering to get respect and raise children? I’m black, so don’t start with all the bigot and prejudice stuff, I’m just speaking from experience and from what I’ve seen culturally. I’m just trying to understand why some black parents feel they have to be so hard and borderline abusive to get respect and raise their children? What’s wrong with love? I feel because black children are subjected to such hard parents they take their anger out in society. I see so many young, angry, mean, unloving children and they get it from home. Many young blacks believe if you want to get something you gotta be tough and beat people down because its been taught and done to them by their parents. There’s not enough loving black parents. Yes, kids need discipline, but does it always have to be physical and verbally and emotionally abusive? Many black parents are quick to discipline but not quick to loving with hugs and kisses like many white mothers I’ve seen. When did it become a cultural thing to be so hard on black children? I believe its something that was adopted from slavery. The slavemasters would be so hard and tough on the black slaves, showing them no mercy, because it was felt thats the only way to handle them and to get respect and control, and blacks seemed to have adopted the same attitude to raise and discipline their children and passed it down from generation to generation.

I know my parents look back now and they have told me they made mistakes and wish they could have done things better. They see now, they could have done things differently. But they didn’t know any other way of parenting except the way they were raised, their parents were hard and borderline abusive to them too and like a cycle they were the same kind of parents as their parents, they continued the abusive way of discipline with me and I wasn’t even a bad child. I can’t stand watching Gigi because she reminds me of one of my parents and it makes me sick. At least when my parents went out in public they acted like they were better then what they were, they didn’t show their abusive behavior they kept it behind closed doors but Gigi is on national tv with no shame in how she’s treating her daughter. Her daughter seems really cool and friendly and doesn’t yet seem affected by her mother’s behavior and I hope she stays that way.

msladysoul, don’t chalk up the fact that your mother had ill parenting skills as being a cultural phenomena.
if your mother sucked, she sucked.
gigi sucked on her own merits as well.

Do any old timers here remember the show Good Times?

lil’ Penny’s birth mom was a psychotic abusive witch who basically abandons her but tried to take her back once she married some shady character with money. Anyway, I just realized that Gigi is that character come to life.

Her creepy nods of approval and cold stare must make her daughter pee her pants on a routine basis. Yikes! And what a wierd sense of humor, she thought the ‘radio personality’ was killer material … it was, to quote her bit … stupid. Good riddance to bad trash.

Anyway, I suspect that Danny is holding onto the former pagent contestant long enough to show her a casting couch first hand. Mary Jo’s will keep eating hoho’s and gummi bears until she can’t fit through the stage door. Fake Cheyanne will have an accident but be unable to dial 911 until she can get into character as a panic stricken child calling for help. Look for that idiot McKenzie to win the challenge as a proud mommy cries tears of joy while wiping some material off her lips.

    “El riesgo vive siempre!”

This is from a paid site so Gigi isn’t just posting all over…lol….
