I Know My Kid’s a Star Recap - Episode 7 - Host-ility
On this episode, the mothers’ claws come out…
…and the kids are right there to show just how impressionable they are!
The episode begins with Danny busting in the house at 6 a.m. yelling for everyone to wake up. His cock-a-doodle-doing makes him something like a plucked rooster — featherless but red all over. No one’s happy about this, which is best illustrated in Pam’s general appearance.
And really, having everyone get up and immediately appear on camera may be the least humane move this show has ever pulled.
Danny tells them they have an hour to get prepared to convene on his turf. The endlessly savvy Helene realizes that this must mean…
Her correspondingly savvy daughter realizes that this must mean…
…it’s time to turn on.
It turns out that Helene is correct.
First the parents are interviewed. Danny acts like the spark in this psychological powder keg, asking which mother deserves to be voted off. Shannon pipes up by naming Helene, since she lives with her mother.
“Spoken by a true beauty-pageant queen, there,” counters Helene. Shannon shoots back, “I can’t help that!” as though being a pageant queen is hardwired into her DNA. IT’S NOT A CHOICE! Danny asks which kid will end up in rehab first. Shannon and Gigi both agree that it’s Mary Jo. “On her way!” says Gigi, as though the pressure she puts on Alai isn’t enough to drive a fish to drink. At one point, Gigi tosses in, “Pam’s also been married to a man who dresses like a woman,” much to Shannon’s delight.
Pam basically confirms this in a solo interview, explaining that the marriage was short and she doesn’t really talk about her husbands. I wish she would more often: this only makes her whole situation more fascinating. Although, equally awesome is another thing she says during a solo interview: “Gigi is just an evil bitch.” Heh. That’s a season-wide summary of one person’s character arc if ever there were.
Also fascinating: Shannon doesn’t know what a casting couch is. Being in Hollywood must be like being on another planet. She doesn’t understand these creatures and their strange ways! Soon the parents are dismissed and they get about 15 minutes to prep their kids for their interview.
As the moms look on…
…the kids answer Danny’s questions, and they’re just as cutthroat as their parents.
Between kids shouting over each other, Danny wonders who’s the biggest brat. Mary Jo pipes up and says it’s Alai. She adds that Alai shouldn’t be there because, “she’s not that talented.” These kids are just endlessly adorable. Speaking of, Cheyenne does a hyper impersonation of…her mom? One of the moms?
All of the moms? Rocky? And then she launches into an impromptu sales pitch when Danny asks who should be the next kid star (cutting off McKenzie, btw)…
“Um, I think that I’m really the next child star ’cause I just live to perform. Like, singing, see I’ll just sing right on the spot. (Sings a few lines from Heart’s ‘Alone.’) See I’m always ready to perform. I’m always on! On! On!” I would love to know exactly what she’s on so I can get some for myself.
Alai asks if she can deliver a monologue she and her mom wrote.
It’s this and it’s weird. The whole time she’s saying it, I can only imagine that bug character they had to voice in the voice-over challenge. Suddenly, I’m sooo in the mood for a picnic!
After Alai’s monologue, the interview challenge is over. At home, more casting couch discussion ensues. Helene points out how common it is to some mild protesting by Shannon. Helene sums up the mindset thusly: “They don’t know what the casting couch is, but you know what? They know how to marry men for money and they know how to have men pay for their fake boobs. So you know what? Pah to that!”
Hmmm. I’m still on the fence as to whether or not “Pah to that!” is a worthy successor to Rocky’s, “So bam!” And speaking of Rocky, I so wish that she were around for the casting couch conversation. No matter where she falls on the matter, you know what she’d have to say about it would be uniquely…her. But I suppose you could say that for any issue.
Then we see Gigi and Shannon talking outside about today’s challenge.
Gigi imitates Cheyenne’s singing, amusingly but not accurately. She also tells Alai of her plans for Pam, since she feels that Mary Jo unfairly attacked Alai during the radio interview.
“I’m gonna rip into her and her daughter so bad she’ll wish that she was never here. And if Helene wants to get into it, I got some stuff to say to her, too. So…” Pass that dish, mom. We’re having resentment family-style tonight!
Meanwhile, Helene and Pam talk because they have some sort of makeshift alliance or something.
“I just hope the end of this doesn’t get really vicious,” says Helene. Uh, too late. Too late by, like, a whole challenge. To wit, Gigi soon comes in and asks to speak with Pam. Pam wonders if this will yield screaming and explains to Gigi, “I’m not gonna give you your drama moment.” If this were a Secret Santa, her words might hold some weight, because you know that no matter what, Gigi’s gonna take her drama moment. And so she does.
She feels as though Pam set Mary Jo up to throw Alai under the bus. Mary Jo has the wherewithal to initiate her own under-the-bus-throwing, thank you very much! Their shouting escalates to the point of hilarity: Gigi tells Pam, “Take your ass back to Celebration, Fla.!” With a name like Celebration, who wouldn’t want to return? The conversation ends with Pam leaving the room and Gigi vowing to kick her ass. You knkow she wouldn’t do it, but hey, it’s the thought that counts.
Danny comes over with a new challenge: the kids will try out for a hosting gig.
Preparation ensues. Alai throws too many words into her reading. Business as usual.
Then, auditions take place.
McKenzie is up first…
She’s pretty big and over-the-top, but it kinda words given the set-up. Marki likes it. When she’s done, McKenzie says, “I don’t know why, but I remind myself of Dr. Phil.” It’s probably the alopecia.
Alai stops after every line, like she’s reading a telegraph. This is how Gigi advised her to do it, so she owns up to it being her fault. That’s more than I’d ever expect from Gigi. Kudos!
Cheyenne is oddly subdued to the point of erasing her identity, according to Marki. It’s like she’s taking whatever McKenzie is hiding under her lettuce.
Mary Jo is bubbly and natural. She’s so great that Marki doesn’t have a single note for her. Imagine rendering Marki speechless! Imagine!
And then: more smack-talking with Gigi.
“If Pam tries to verbally whatever, I will rip her. I will shred her.” Hold on there, Freddy Krueger. What if Pam tries to verbally juggle poodles. That’d be worth not shredding her just to see it play out, right?
While Gigi’s talking, Pam’s listening.
And then, after Alai catches her, the jig is up.
Gigi’s response to the news?
“Tell Robin to come around from the corner and face Batman.” Funny that she calls herself “Batman” but acts like Catwoman. Reow! But also, how awesome would it be to see Gigi dressed up like Batman during the elimination round?
No such luck, though. Marki’s more critical than usual in the parents-only portion: McKenzie got lost, Cheyenne was too fake (she gave too much and too little, respectively, in this week’s challenges), Alai was too monologuey and Mary Jo was too awesome. Marki asks how things are in the house and she might as well be asking if anyone’s ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light.
Pam explains that Gigi accused her of setting up Mary Jo to go after Alai. That’s a chain of communication that spans generations. Gigi flips out…
The highlight? “Where’s the ponytail you wear? It’s probably up Helene’s butt.” Shoving a ponytail up someone’s butt sounds like a logistical nightmare, to say the least.
Anyway, Gigi’s outburst pretty much proves Danny’s suspicions: Gigi, simply, is not ready for Hollywood and she is sent home.
On the way out, Gigi tells Alai to have more confidence, which is a hard thing to just will, especially when you’re being commanded to do so. HOWEVER, it is impressive that Gigi shows affection to both Mary Jo…
…and her daughter.
I really thought that Gigi was going to come down hard on Alai for being eliminated. The shot above is about the most reassuring one that’s ever run on this blog.

Never forget you all are very talented as all of the children were.

And to Missy: Peace, I really don’t care who you are and I apologize for discussing you on the board. I should have held back and kept names out of it.
I just think the majority of the very “opinionated” “fans” are overly mean and nasty a lot of the times. Presentation is key to getting your views across. Hell, you’re probably a really nice person who I’d talk to and never think ill of in real life, but your anger online takes away from your reasoning and posting.
And yes, Mackenzie will be one of the two last ones standing…she’s a natural.

Pam……Mary Jo…I have to admit that I pretty much thought of MaryJo as more the model type rather then an actress…but since this drama on the blogs has come forth ( thank you Missy!/Gigi)..it made me want all the more to check out her new videos and web pages….now I can see her full potential…..you go girl…..you’ve got what it takes!
to those parent/kid teams that have already gone home….. I wish you also the best….I think that they all had talent in their own way…but as competition goes, some will win this time, others will lose…the key is to accept winning or losing with grace and style……that way people will run to see your next performance rather then have ill feelings about a poor loser..no matter what talent someone has..if they have an ill attitude..they won’t get work…..and if they do, the general audience won’t pay to see them…….not for long anyway…

Also, the only reason I doubt her having a SAG card is because it’s not listed on her resume, according to Mary Jo’s resume (on her website). Typically on headshots/EPKs/et al, an actor will list their affiliations (SAG, AFTRA, etc) as they pay a hefty sum to maintain that membership. Heck, I would too!

I agree as well about seeing these kids again - we definitely will! Mary, Mackenzie, Rocky’s Hayley… with hope, Hayley will find a manager who will look out for her best interests so her mom can concentrate on being a mom.
One can only hope for a reunion show. I just hope it doesn’t turn out as Springeresque as the Rock of Love and Flavor of Love ones always do! There are KIDS, after all involved here.

I believe that it is only a trailer for a film that has already been shot totally. Can’t tell too much from their official site (another myspacer….)
As for the SAG card, I would think that Mary Jo already has gotten one since the show, she also was on two TV show pilots and those are definately union jobs. As for the others, I’m not sure if commercials are union or not. But I don’t think we have to worry about never seeing any of these kids again, they all will find work plenty, including Rocky’s Hayley.
Tonight should be interesting to say the least. And I expect this place will be a blood bath following the conclusion, you know some people just behave and be happy for others.

I just wanted to post and say thank you to all those who have come on here and defended Mary Jo. I appreciate everyone coming to her defense about the porn comments. Mom did tell me not to pay any attention to that garbage but to be quite honest as her big brother I was offended! My sister is a sweet person and my mom nor her would ever have anything to do with porn. To be honest my mom said these comments from haters comes with the territory but I think these comments are very low and the people making such comments are also.
I came on here again to express my gratitude to all those coming to my sisters defense.
Gigi, My family is praying for yours and I am sorry that you have so much hate still. I hope that in the future you can move on and not feel any more bitterness.

DanKlien1218: Good thoughts. I think that Beyond Imagination clip is just a movie trailer, isn’t it? I don’t think it’s a feature yet? At least that’s what I read? It’s posted in a few places on YouTube. Maybe we’re looking at different ones? I’m not sure that Mary Jo has a SAG card based on one film, indie or not. SAG cards and agents are not required for any film shoot, unless it’s a union gig, I thought? I don’t think you can earn a SAG card on an indie gig either? I’m not for sure on the protocol, but I do know that any joker with a handicam can make a short. Clearly the Beyond Imagination clip was much higher quality and looks to be a indie feature in the making. I’d be interested in seeing the full movie when its available, in fact.
Here are my thoughts on Cheyene and Shannon. And I mean no disrespect to either of the mothers here:
- Mackenzie I would hate to see make it in Hollywood and be devoured by the Hollywood machine. She’s talented, she would be a grand stage actress, no doubt! I could just see her turning really quickly out of agent/industry pressure. While Shannon is an excellent mother and very smart, everything will change once you’re in the mix out there. I would hate to see Shannon put in the position to make a choice like that… but I guess that’s the place they’ve put themselves in, right?
- Cheyene is a direct product of Helene, and that’s not a compliment. We’ve seen the bratty side of Mary Jo, Hayley and some of the other kids but we haven’t seen much in ways of her temperament… just her talent. We have, however, heard little sound bites of brattyness and I believe there’s a lot more to it than just a couple of frustrated laments. The nastiness and ego displayed.. those were disappointing for me to hear from someone who was seemingly well-adjusted. To say that one is living vicariously through another here would be stretching a little, considering Rocky clearly was and Cheyenne absolutely wants to be the next kid star. Team Cheyenne is just smart enough to not play it up for the cameras.
- I like Mary Jo a lot. I see this subtle vulerability in her, as well as the spunk and charisma. It looks like she, and Mackenzie as well, truly want to learn. Whereas, in Cheyene and Helene’s case, they already know it all. Make sense? I believe Mary Jo’s mother is smart enough to carry her through and I think Mary Jo is talented enough to go on to do many different things. I would say the same for Team Mackenzie. Clearly Mary Jo can be a brat - again, I mean no offense - but what kid at that age isn’t?! I know *I* was! And it gets worse in the teens!!
If any of those kids had a SAG card, representation or otherwise, I would say it’s either Cheyenne or (Rocky’s) Hayley. Both mothers know the system enough to do what they need to do and get some sort of work for their kid. Again, I would not necessarily count these as compliments, but to say that some sort of intelligence or strategy isn’t required for such things would be wrong.
As for my choice for tonight’s finale, I’d say it’s a toss up between Mary Jo and Cheyenne. I don’t think Mackenzie’s Hollywood enough yet… and I hope she never is (that IS a compliment). Mary Jo I would love to see on TV regularly or in the movies one day, provided she or her mother don’t get lost in Hollywood’s lifestyle or way of doing things. I just think that she’s the better fit. Would I like to see her doing better things than ‘reality’ shows - absolutely! There’s definite potential in that Beyond Imagination thing, for sure!

My newphew partially put together a myspace for McKenzie which her dad and I were not very happy about. I realize plenty kids have one but, if feel like they require a certain age for a reason. However, when he offered to delete it, I told him to just wait until after the show when I could be totally focused and hands on and we may leave it. With that said, that may be a way to keep up with her career. Also, she will be performing May 17 and I’m planning on making a Youtube video.

I have read all of the blogs, as far back as 04/01/08.
I have not read 1 blog that threatens anyone. Where you came up with the nonsense, that anyone on here posed a threat is deyond me. Although I feel that some of the comments may be hurtfull to you, and the rest of pams’ family and friends. This doesnt give you or anyone else the right to accuse these people of a crime, that has NOT been committed.
I think you should also check the statues ( laws) and find out what penalties are involved with someone like yourself making false accusationa against someone and also you impersonating a law enforcement agent.
For the record, Iam only voicing my OPINION, which to my recollection is absolutely legal.
The other people on here who you guys have been going back and fourth with, also have a legal right to vioce their opinion as well.
If you cant take the heat of the comments they make, stay off the blog and dont read them.
I think at this stage in the show, everyone has formed his or her opinion already, and threating them with laws, and crimes that noone has committed, isnt going to make them change thier minds.
Just thought I would let you know, that the rest of the world is formilar and knowledged, on the law as well.

Question for you though, where did I impersonate a law enforcement agent? I think your medications need to be adjusted deary…
You “comments” are duly noted and tossed out as the ravings of someone who doesn’t have enough sense to type a paragraph correctly, use spell check or run two sentences together to make a continuous thought…
While some on here might be “formilar and knowledged” (as you typed), with the laws, clearly some people, like you, aren’t familiar with commonsense, common decency to children and a little self-control. As we have touched ya’ll hearts, you have touched ours. There are no words to describe how it makes me feel as a parent to hear others refer to my child as “Little Princess” and “America’s Star”.Then, to know there is a banner many states away stating “Go McKenzie Go”. WOW and THANK YOU are all I know to say.
When I gave McKenzie the hug from you and the staff at Pennsauka Middle School her reply was “Momma, tell them back at them.” So, big hugs to you and the staff.

Anyone who saw anything that resembled pornography in that clip needs some serious mental help and at least 20 years in jail.
From what I’ve read Rocky hasn’t attacked anyone that hasn’t attacked her of her daughter first.
As for Gigi…well you’d have to ask Missy about that wouldn’t you?
As for the winner tonight, I’ve been thinking about it a lot town and have come to this conclusion.
Throughout the entire show everyone has hyped Cheyenne, all you hear about is her potential, her growth, her “being Hollywood”, it’s over played and too obvious…
There’s been a lot of hype here and other places about her “myspace” accounts (yes, plural, why plural I don’t know…). These are things a professional takes care of, and not on a homemade myspace account.
Mary Jo has already made a movie (yes it is an Independent Film but most actors and actresses do them at the beginning and a lot are going back to them now for more challenging roles.)
She clearly has an agent and a SAG card since those are usually required to film in America.
The one you really don’t hear much about other than from Shannon on here is Mackenzie which makes me think Shannon is holding all the cards close to her chest and playing it as a smart mother.
Tonight it will be either Mary Jo or Mackenzie. Cheyenne, as talented as she is, as been the “favorite” by the show for too long and they need something to shake things up for a second season, if there will be one…
All three deserve to win and we will be seeing more of them again soon. Same with Rockys daughter Hayley.

I have read all of the blogs, as far back as 04/01/08.
I have not read 1 blog that threatens anyone. Where you came up with the nonsense, that anyone on here posed a threat is deyond me. Although I feel that some of the comments may be hurtfull to you, and the rest of pams’ family and friends. This doesnt give you or anyone else the right to accuse these people of a crime, that has NOT been committed.
I think you should also check the statues ( laws) and find out what penalties are involved with someone like yourself making false accusationa against someone and also you impersonating a law enforcement agent.
For the record, Iam only voicing my OPINION, which to my recollection is absolutely legal.
The other people on here who you guys have been going back and fourth with, also have a legal right to vioce their opinion as well.
If you cant take the heat of the comments they make, stay off the blog and dont read them.
I think at this stage in the show, everyone has formed his or her opinion already, and threating them with laws, and crimes that noone has committed, isnt going to make them change thier minds.
Just thought I would let you know, that the rest of the world is formilar and knowledged, on the law as well.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness and your apology. As far as the vulgarity is concerned, McKenzie is not allowed to browse the computer freely. She only 10 and only sees what her dad and I allow her to see. Thanks anyway for the word of cauition.
