The Celebreality Interview - Ambre, After the Love
After Wednesday’s announcement of a third Rock of Love season, we were curious about how Bret’s breakup with Ambre went down. So, we called her up to ask her about why things didn’t work out. Did they see each other enough? Is Bret afraid of commitment? Is it just that finding love on reality TV is impossible? Ambre shares some insight (and zero resentment!) below…
So, how are you doing?
I’m good. I am. I’m sad, of course, about the breakup. But I’m happy for Bret about this next stage in his life.
Was the breakup something that happened gradually?
Yeah. It led up to one big conversation. He is so busy on tour, and I am so busy with work and my life that we didn’t have a lot of time to dedicate to a relationship. Unfortunately, when you don’t have a lot of time, it just makes it hard for a relationship to work.
How often did you see each other between the Rock of Love 2 reunion and when you called it off?
A couple of times a month. He was wonderful in that if he was anywhere near Chicago, he’d call and come through and see me.
You did some shows with him, too.
Yes. And we’re still friends. I support this decision wholeheartedly. He supports me personally and professionally, so I hope I am able to attend shows in the future.
Was there a specific point that you realized that this wasn’t working out?
It wasn’t one certain thing. It was just time.
From the time that Bret picked Jes over Heather on the first season, or even earlier, people have wondered if Bret is afraid of commitment. Is he?
Absolutely not. He doesn’t have an aversion to intimacy at all. The great thing about my relationship with him was that it was honest and true. We developed it and had great chemistry. It was hard. We were out there for everyone to watch, which we totally signed up for. But in the dating world, you date people. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. We gave it an honest effort and it’s not anyone’s fault. It’s not his aversion to anything. Hopefully next time will work for him.
At this point, a lot of people are wondering how he’s going to find love if he didn’t the first two times. If it didn’t work with someone like you, who understands entertainment-industry schedules, who will it work with?
I don’t know! And I think he doesn’t know either, and that’s the wonderful thing about it.
Cynics from the start said that it would never work between you and Bret. Does it suck that they were ultimately right?
There are a lot of reality shows, and as soon as you get so many of them out of the made-for-TV situation, it’s over. Bret and I have been dating since last year. For nine or ten months, and we really, really put all of our effort, emotion and everything we had into this. I think that’s what sets us apart — we were really true to that.
You said on the show that you were in love with the Bret. Looking back, were you or were you just caught up in the moment?
Yes, I was in love with him. I can say that with all my heart. Without a doubt. Absolutely.
Are you still in love with him?
I will always love him, yes. This wasn’t an easy decision for us, and we really had to think about it. Once you make a decision like this, there’s no turning back. I’m sad about it. But you have to move forward.
Are you going to watch next season?
Absolutely. I hope he calls me for advice. I’m there for him. Bret and I have always had a great friendship, and we still do. That’s something I’ll treasure forever.
Does your friendship make the breakup easier? Because it seems like you’re coping with it well.
Well, I’ve had some time to mull it over. You guys are just now hearing about it. I’ve dealt with the emotions and sadness. I’m not going to say I bounced back completely, because like with anything, it takes time. But it is a little easier at this point for me.
Has this situation altered your view on reality TV? Would you use it as a vehicle for finding love again?
Reality TV gets such a bad rap. It changed my life forever and for the better. I learned and I grew. I grew physically, emotionally, spiritually. I’ll never be the same. The wonderful thing about being in this reality world is that it allowed me to focus on me and focus on what I want in a man. Would I use this again to find love? Absolutely.
Have you heard from any of your Celebreality peers since the announcement of Rock of Love Bus?
Yeah. I was with Jessica all day Wednesday. Heather reached out. Inna. A lot of the girls. I feel really fortunate to have made so many friends from the show. In a way, we’re all a big family and I love them all.
What’s coming up for you on the career front?
A lot of things. Little projects, and I’m in a lot of talks. My life was so involved with Rock of Love for so long that I’m transitioning to the next stage. Stay tuned to my MySpace. When I can disclose things, I will. And I want to thank my fans for being so very supportive and wonderful during this. It’s a difficult time for Bret and I, but it’s an exciting time as well. I really appreciate the kind words and unwavering support.

Well, Well, Well… This show was the only one on TV I wouldn’t miss until tonight. I am sorry Brett but your big mistake started with inviting x-boyfriends to interview. I always liked the way you handled yourself and the girls, with CLASS, but tonight the girl you let go I felt so bad for her because that jerk of an x-boyfriend made her feel like dog food once again in her life by saying he was just there for promotion gimmick, that would make any girl feel like crap (cry), myself I would have taken a swing at him, but nevertheless you not only caused this guy to go home and laugh at what happened to her, but now instead of feeling like getting kicked in the gut once it was a double whammy with this poor girl, with kicking her out tonight… It was pretty easy to see why he made her cry; well maybe you have to be women.
Just when I thought you had a show that could take me back to my rocker years and remind of all the fun I had at the #5 Orange here in Vancouver (and I know you know where this is… Wink). A show that we rockers / dancers always showed respect to our fellow rockers /dancers when no one else will… until tonight… I am sorry Brett this is one ex-dancer (now CGA) that will not be watching your show any more. Well maybe if you bring back that ex and embarrass him like a rocker / dancer would.

Well first of all, it’s going to be hard to find love in a show that takes a month to make. It’s not like the relationship is going to really be based on honesty and loyalty. Or even friendship, because look @ what these people have had to do to impress the person. It’s ridiculous and I can’t believe that people are willing to go to that length for one person. I don’t think that Bret’s going to find his “rock of love” on a tour bus, either. He needs to look deep inside and find out what he’s really looking for. And when he finds that person, then they both need to make a real effort to make it work. And if it doesn’t, then they move on. But someone’s love life should never really be displayed on tv. It makes for great entertainment, but there’s a lot of people that get hurt in the process. And Bret made a lot of mistakes that I would’ve changed. I would’ve let Daisy go as soon as I found out that she was still living w/ her ex. Sharing an apartment or not, she lied to him. She should’ve been honest from the start. And I was glad to see Kristy Jo go, because she lied as well. There was too much dishonesty amongst some of the girls in this season. And I really thought that the most genuine person on that show was Ambre. And I couldn’t believe that it didn’t work out for the 2 of them. I thought she was just the perfect person for him.

Bret should have let Ambre go that first night when she was talking to her real boyfriend in Chicago on the phone. YES she was in a relationship at the time. She pulled a Jess. Ambre was dating that guy Adam and they never broke up– even during her “so called relationship” with Bret.
She got her ten minutes of fame but she liked that taste of the limelight. It is evident she really wanted Bret to fall for her, but he was not into her. He just did ROL to entertain his fan base. He’s not really out to find love but that is OK cause I love watching Bret do his thing.
Will I watch ROL3?….You better believe I will. Have always loved a good soap opera.

Man, that’s depressing to see another one of these reality relationships end.
I honestly thought Bret and Ambre were going to last, because they both really seemed like they were on the same page. It seems like they’re both okay about going their separate ways. I guess it’s cool, because Rock of Love is a really entertaining show haha

How in the world can you find TRUE love on a reality show in such a short time??? It takes forever in the real world to find love and make it work. I love watching all these reality shows dont get me wrong but come on its never going to work with any love reality shows I think that has been proven over and over!!!

I wonder how much they paid all those women to show up for this entertainment (sic)? I’d put money on it that Ambre got the biggest payoff. You have to give them credit…..the act was pretty good. I wonder how long this show would last if the ratings went down? I never watched the show, except the final one…accidentally caught the tail end when I was surfing on the bio channel and stopped to see the spectacle. I wonder if they have reality shows for grandmothers?…I’d sign up if it would help my retirement fund.

Hello, all these shows are to help prolong the careers! its all a publicity stunt. Its really sad that women are willing to subject themselves to the humilation of the shows in order to get ten minutes of fame. it’s absolutely ridiculous to think that you could possibly find love in a system where the guy you are supposed to want is actually setting you up to do really stupid things on national television in order to make himself look wanted. For myself i would rather have a man who repects me intead of testing me every minute. For example, what does being able to catch a greased pig have to do with relationship compatability? And after the show do these women really think that anyone could possibly take them seriously after acting so desperate and skanky for the entire world to see? What an embarrasment for themselves, thier families and actually all women. Its good to know that women having been fighting for hundreds of years to be treated fairly and with respect for a few cheap women to throw it all away. WELL DONE.

Good thing! i hated that miss goody goody two shoes on the show and couldn’t believe he chose her in the end i was very upset she would always express herself by putting the pack on what an ugly women byt he way she was the uggliest there so i’m not surprised she didn’t fit with him at all!!!!!

You rock Ambre. You’re a nice classy girl closer to his age. I hate when people put down your age bc Brett is still half a decade older than you. I’m so glad you won and that it worked out for so long unlike most reality shows… once the camera turns off they split up. I’ve watched the entire season of Rock of Love 2 and you were so honest about yourself and everyone else

Do you really believe these people are looking for love? Women throw themselves at Bret everyday , might I add alot better looking women than are on the show. He is just trying to make some money. Ambre it breaks my heart you and Brett are over.I went to his concert here in Idaho.They rock I love poison.I was cheering for you all along.When you have a breakup no matter how it ends it sucks.I am glad Brett is not like other men he HAS a heart.And I believe that he will find a true women out there for him.I am sad that you had to end it.But like you say you are still in his life.That is awesome!!!!!! Serious… you make a wonderfully lucid argument about the reasons for Brett & the women to do the show… my question to you is this: if it bugs you so much, why do you watch it??? Worse, not only do you watch the show, but you seem to find it necessary to make your negative opinions known every five minutes. I met Brett in Sturgis one night in the bar; he was a very sweet man; we danced and had a nice hug; I went up to him and asked if he would like to be a part of a survey of mens ~^#+&&`&$@+~+^( s in Sturgis; he laughted and said sure; I had no idea as to who he was; till after i left his table; I hope he finds the right lady to live his life with; He should look for someone who is well rounded as well as who can do the back stage life. Its a shame I’m to old for him;

I am sadden to hear of yours and Bret’s breakup. I thought you two were a good match. I think he needs a woman who can devote herself to him. Someone without a career. He needs someone to be able to live his lifestyle and not there own. I wish you guys would of worked out but I am also excited for the 3rd Rock of Love.

I really like Bret. But if the rumors are true, and he is still with his ex?girlfriend kristi gibson, why does he hide it?For a show, money , fame??? Is that true love??? Hope he will find someone, he will love so much, he will be proud to show it, not hide it!! Is it just me, that something is wrong with kristi gibson, if she agrees, that her man kisses other girls and hides their relationship. Does she get payed for doing that? Milly i absolutley agree with you. If kristi is standing behind all this, shes a really bad one. But i dont think they are still together.Cant imagine that VH1, would ask anybody to do a datingshow, if he would be in a happy serious relationship.
