Why the Queen is not listed in Hip Hop? She is an original. Help me understand why she is not in this foundation.

October 7th, 2008 at 12:18 am
yall, on some new york sh// too short is a icon he show the whole about independence i dont feel like he got it like it should have been. we have to take this honor to the south or the north because we love it all. Too Short icon. i lived in cali, i lived in new york. when new york was gettin it. Too Short was workin. Period, point, blank! it is what it is, yall was hatin.! i’m independent with a hot artist but the industry have not changed but he made us feel free too keep tring before master p and i got the hook up. his mind is the hook up. dont hate new york change the city because i’m from cleveland and Bone changed the game, but my artist is better.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:24 am
So, when is the CD coming out? I need a CD from each year so fans can have all the hits in one place!!! If vh1 does it, i said it first and i want my cut!!!!! cypress hill was the best tonight. WTF was up with the naughty by nature tribute? Learn the words first! Damn, and I loooooove big boi…but, that sucked! sorry, had to say it.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:58 am
I hate the way yall did my man short! His tribute was the shortest and y didn’t you get anybody from the west coast? e40 & snoop would be the obvious choices but I seen Mr Fab & Mack 10 in the building. You could’ve asked Yukmouth, ice cube, keak da sneak, so many people. I got nuthin against kid rock but you know you was clownin askin that white boy to rep for the pimp! Short was disappointed thats y you got the performance u got. Tell me how u gone honor any artist without any of his real peeps doing the honoring. U do it every yr for every1 else so next time u honor a bay vet step it up! Good job on the show otherwise.
October 7th, 2008 at 1:07 am
in response to Jay gee’s comment firstly…its not about who’s hatin too short is “iight” but overrated duke wasnt all that, just because you sell records doesnt make u a great MC…one of the aspects of being an MC is the ability to move a crowd too short’s segment wasnt all that because he cant budge a crowd,u say New York was hatin but they moved for Cypress Hill though & they’re from L.A. lest u forgot, there was a difference, cypress can rock crowds. Frankly im suprised they showed so much love to De La Soul who damn sure deserved it. But how many albums have they put out that most of yall have no clue ever dropped? The Jacked Naughty’s tribute all up…using the wrong people to recite Treach’s lyrics, they did the same to Big Daddy Kane. Where was the Flava unit? Why wasn’t Latifah on stage, the one who founded Naughty in the 1st place, Naughty themselves salvaged their segment. Then the damn music sounded like a cassette tape playing fast forward. i wonder how much of that crowd realized that EPMD was on stage? Loved the wallabees Busta was rocking too, and Slick Rick looked sharp that suit was bangin. The Best segment was De La Soul’s “hands down”
October 7th, 2008 at 1:24 am
RESPONSE TO BIGGEST BAY BOSS: u got a point about Too Short and who they used to do his tribute, u shouldnt be suprised, this is VH1 we’re talking about!!! they use the wrong heads to do honors every year, they screwed Naughty’s tribute up too. I think some of the people who put these shows together were probably ivy leaguers who took Hip Hop as a major in college what could they really know about the real Hip Hop culture?
October 7th, 2008 at 1:33 am
And another thing….yall shoulda came to the bay and shot footage out here to see how we give love to our bay veterans. if u look at snoop he been doing the same 2 step bounce since ‘92 he got no need 2 change. Thats the rhythm of our music its smoove, eazy, lazy, chill, laid back, & neccessary. So when u got artists from another area to rep our music, they can’t do it justice cause they don’t understand it. when we speed it up & do it hyphy they still don’t get it! So yo only option is to come to the yay so we can show you how we do it! Up there n NY they don’t even know all of $hort’s hits so how could they really get into it? I don’t wanna sound to critical but i wish you would have did a better job letting the people know how much $hort has really contributed to the game. Digital Underground,Souls of mischief, spice 1, toni tone tony, keisha cole, Hammer, luniz (everybody know ‘I got 5 on it’) these artists are all from Oakland what kind of research did you do? you had an opportunity to really shine the spotlight and you fumbled. The game paid homage in his song featuring Keisha Cole. Its really offensive that you honor the hip hop culture of the south, east coast, midwest, Los Angeles, but the Bay always seems to get slighted and we been in it since ‘85. We’ve always embraced y’all even helped yo boy the legendary 2pac get out there. Show us love back we One Hip Hop Nation!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey I enjoy Hip-Hop honors. But where is the SOUTH? No one has been honored. And there are artist from the south who have been out since the early to mid 90’s and are still factors in the game today. Some should have been honored before Cyress Hiill & De La Soul, like…..
Geto Boys
UGK
Outkast (Dungeon Family)
Jermaine Dupri
Luke and 2 Live Crew
Master P
Lil Jon
8-Ball & MJG
Baby & Slim (Cash Money Empire)
J Prince (Rap-A-Lot)
Tony Draper (Suave House)

i gotta agree wit my man king b. , WHERE THE F WAS THE SOUTH? lets keep it trill , P ,UGK , BALL AND MJG , 2 LIVE CREW , AND JD SHOULD BE UP FOR HONORS BY NOW. I CANT FRONT ON NONE OF THE CATS GETTIN HONORED , THEY ARE ALL WELL DESERVING……ESPECIALLY CYPRESS HILL AND SLICK RICK. BUT THE SOUTH HAS ICONS AS WELL. NOW , AS FAR AS THIS YEARS HHO SHOWCASE , IT WAS THE WORST …… EVER! IT ACTUALLY SHOWS THE STATE THAT HIP HOP IS IN FROM THIS ASPECT…. HOW MANY ARTISTS JACKED UP THE ICONS LYRICS? THE NUMBER IS IRRELEVANT. THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS , IF YOU WERE ASKED TO PERFORM AN ICONS SONG ON THIS GRAND OF A STAGE , THE LEAST YOUR SELF-CENTERED _#)#~~_`)%#`!!( COULD DO WOULD BE TO GOOGLE THE DAMN LYRICS AND ATTEMPT TO LEARN THE FREAKIN SONG!!!!!!!!!! AND FOR THE RECORD , YA NY HOMIE JUELS WAS THE WORST IN THAT ASPECT.
IN CLOSING , IM JUST SAYIN , THE HINT OF JEALOUSY IS STILL PREVELENT , NY. JUS KEEPIN IT 100.

To respond to Al one 1WK, No one was talking about record sales but really how many peeps even know about short on the East coast. A lot of times I feel that much of the east coast is insulated in their own little bubble of music and don’t bother to go outside of it. Not to say that everyone is like that on the east coast but a lot of people are and I’m sure a lot of the crowd was. Cypress Hill is a little different because they featired a lot of guitar in there set which automatically gets you pumped up and gets you a little more hyphy. But if you looked at the crowd, how many of those people knew the words to the cypress joints? yeah they new insane in the membrane but that is because it is such a strong hook. All I want to say is that VH1 did a bad job of representing Short and the bay music. Need I remind NY of all the slang that gets lifted from the Bay? I just felt Short shoulda got more love then he did and no matter what he wasn’t gonna be able to move the crowd because they weren’t familiar with him. Next time REP the BAY correctly or have some damn West Coast Shows so we can show everyone how tha BAY gets down…YEEEEE!
October 7th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
All the Honorees are deserving but the supporting performances in relation were really weak. De La Soul, Naughty, Cypress, Short(was pissed when he performed w/ good reason)
The show was wack as fcuk!!! Alot of the supporting artist didn’t know the words to alot of the joints on stage- not a good look. PE/Mos Def held it down though for De La. Slick Ricks honorees held it down. Cypress’ was alright w/ Mac 10.
Too Short was pissed at those reppin’ him ie Kid Rock- you could see it in his facial expressions.
Folks the South has seriously fcuked up the game only classic folks who get love are Outkast, Geto Boys, 2Live Crew, Big Mello, Goodie Mob, Devin The Dude, South Circle, MC Shy D, UGK plus a few more.
Forget Cash Money, JD, No Limit and the rest of the tomfoolery being passed off as Hip Hop look twoards Cyne, Little Brother, Strange Fruit Project for some real Southern Hip Hop.
Show organizers should get folks who grew up around the artists to rep them at least they will know the words to the joints. Too Short should have been repped by Bay Area folks- point blank! I wonder how the show rehersal went if the show was this wack?lol
VH1 should let the artist have some input on who will rep them and what songs will be used.
That being said De La Soul was the best of the night all the way around.

hip hop honors was real good this year! i think next year you should honor the fat boys! i know buff is gone but markie dee and kool rock ski are still around i think! and biz markie could do the honorary human beat box!
May 23rd, 2009 at 12:28 am
1. These NEED to be released on DVD.
2. Slow down on honoring so many artist each year. There are a lot of good rappers/groups left, but I don’t want average artists getting this honor either.
3. Why hasn’t Latifah been honored yet? She has been in attendance for a few of the shows.
May 23rd, 2009 at 12:35 am
For 2009 I say:
Latifah
UTFO
Heavy D
Kool Moe Dee (Treacherous Three)
Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince (pretty hard to see Will showing up, but you gotta try).
How the hell did Missy Elliot get honored ?!?!?!?!

ON th T.O. show what woman would not want to fulfill her dreams of an education? Why rely on someone to marry T.O. is not her father. those where her plans to get schooled why put pressure on him ,why ca”t they date if he cares enough withou the pressure they can visit. I T.O marries she will use the marriage as a reason for no college and no college for no decent job &no money. T.O think bout this first.
