The Celebreality Interview - Destiney

Below, Destiney, the first runner-up of Rock of Love Charm School, talks about the spitting incident, why she couldn’t watch herself on Charm School and how the show set her on the “right path.”

You told me that you avoided watching I Love Money, but was this show different for you, since you did so well?

No, I didn’t watch the show. I’m super busy, and I lived through these shows. For me, it’s hard to watch because girls talk bad about other girls. Even though I know sometimes they don’t mean it, it’s hard to hear bad things about yourself. I’m so sensitive that it hurts me and I’d rather just not watch at all.

If you’re that sensitive, it seems like even agreeing to appear on one of these shows in the first place is asking for a hard time.

It truly is. I look back and wonder how I did it a lot. I trip out a lot, like, “Wow, did I really do all that stuff?” But it worked out for the best. Charm School put me on my right path.

Really? It was life-changing?

Yeah, absolutely. I’m doing a whole clothing line of T-shirts and jeans that you’ll get to see on the reunion. It’s called Divination, and my boyfriend’s is Virtuoso.

Do it was just a matter of awakening the designer in you?

Yeah. Once I did that Ed Hardy design, I really felt passionate about something. Doing my own clothing line is something I always wanted, but I guess I never had the inspiration the way I do now. Especially after meeting my boyfriend, everything fell into place. I love creating things and making really cool stuff. This is my career now.

Are you selling the shirts yet?

We have our first samples, and we’re mapping out or distribution plan.

Was the show difficult for you?

Charm School was probably the easiest of the three. Obviously, there was some drama, but I’d just rather not relive any of that. My clothing line is called Divination and it’s very positive and it means “to be inspired by gods” and it’s all about methodical things and I just really wanna stay in that mind frame and stay away from that drama. I know I put myself in these situations, but I feel like it all was worth it in the end. I found my true passion and I found my partner in life, my soul mate. We work great together.

That said, your restraint after Brandi C., spit on you was really impressive.

I was impressed with myself! I hadn’t drank a lot, though. The lesson before that was about moderation, and I listened a lot. I wanted to change and learn and become a better person. So I only had two drinks that night, thank god, because I can be a firecracker when I drink a lot. Mainly, I was in shock, that’s why I just stood there for a minute. It was surreal, like I was out of my body watching it. I’m just really glad I didn’t do anything violent.

It was big of you to forgive Brandi, too.

The next day, she wrote me a letter, and I wasn’t going to read it at first. And then I thought about it and I figured I should just give her a chance. So I did, and she did seem genuine when she was apologizing. But now I know, looking back, that she was just trying to save her own ass and stay in the house. I understand why she would do that, and, look: we were never friends in the first place. I don’t owe her a damn thing, especially since she violated me so much and degraded me in the worst way possible. I don’t owe her a f***in’ thing.

Do you resent her?

No. I feel sorry for her, actually. I don’t know how she lives her life, but from what I’ve seen being around her, she’s a lost, confused person. Hopefully she can find herself some day.

It was sad to watch your friendship with Heather dissolve.

To be honest, we weren’t friends for that long, anyway. You really don’t know a person that well in six months. [During the satisfaction-survey argument] I felt like our friendship meant nothing to her, and I really did care about her. I felt like she could give a s***. She didn’t care whatsoever. I didn’t understand why she turned on me like that. I would never do that to someone I call my friend. That was the worst thing about it: it was confusing. But you know, I know who my friends are. The friends that I do have I’ve had for a very long time.

Are you still friends with any of the girls on the shows?

Yeah, I keep in touch with a lot of them. I love Inna. Kristy Joe and I are friends now, believe it or not. I like Rodeo. Frenchie and I just did a horror movie together in New York. She’s a riot. Although she is hard to understand at times, she’s a genuine soul. Jessica, too. And Dallas.

Were you disappointed that Brandi M., won?

Well, I was bummed because I came so close, but I was happy for her. She and I were totally cool the whole time. She never back stabbed me or did anything to piss me off. She’s a true person, as well. I think she deserved to win and everything worked out for the best. It was all meant to be. If I would have won, I might not have met [boyfriend] Eric. I might have gone on a different path.

Besides developing an interest in design, do you find yourself applying Charm School’s lessons to everyday life?

Absolutely. I’m not perfect. I have my days. For example, for the lesson Thou Shall Know Who Thou Art, one of the key things we learned was that building a brand is about what you believe in and what you stand for. I saw the word “Divination” in a magazine and it totally popped out and was talking to me. I was like, “Whoa! That is an awesome name for a clothing line.” When I looked it up on the trademark website, no one had it! It was so crazy. Like, what! I grabbed it. It was meant for me. It’s very positive and that’s what I’m trying to promote now.
