Critic Tweets Live From the CCA Show
We always bring you the scoop about VH1 shows, and this year those watching the Critics Choice Awards on television (January 8, 8:30 pm ET) will have an extra dose of info coming their way. Mark Ramsey, film critic and top dog of Moviejuice.com, will be our mole in the room, sending twitter missives to our blog as the show moves through its paces. Be here that night to get a first hand view of all the celeb action.
Ramsey’s a veteran blogger, offering wry commentary on the world of film. He’s also part of the Broadcast Film Critics Association, an expert who voted on this year’s winners and a pundit who’s made appearances on CNN, E! and VH1. “Back before there were all these idiots commenting on things, I was an idiot commenting on things.”
With a grin he says he tries “to steer clear of all awards dinner whenever possible, unless I’m the one receiving the award - which is unlikely beyond all measure.” But as a member in good standing of the BFCA, this is one annual bash that he enjoys attending.
“A lot of the things that look great on TV look horrendous in person. But being in a fairly open room in Santa Monica filled with movies stars, directors, screen writers, and producers all carousing with each other - it’s easy to be there. Besides, how many chances do you get to get up close and personal with people you usually only see in two dimensions when they’re 50 feet tall.”
There’s a healthy dose of satire running through Ramsey’s Moviejuice postings, so you can expect him to have something fun to say from the field on show night. “I’m keeping an eye out for anything unusual, comment-worthy; I want to provide as much color as possible. When I found out that Jessica Biel had a big butt and I had no one to tell, I was frustrated. And I suspect people would have wanted to know. When I saw that Ben Affeck going out for a smoke again and again? The man obviously has a problem. I want to let the world know. Since the camera is attached to the phone, I guess it comes with…but the BFCA has very wisely encouraged critics that the evening shouldn’t be used as a trip to the zoo.”
