Behind The Music Will Return This Summer

Which episode is your favorite? Motley Crue? David Crosby? Biggie?

Most Behind the Music afficionados have their go-to shows, tales that clock the glories and pitfalls of a particular music act. The famed VH1 franchise hasn’t been that active in the last few years, but there’s good news for BTM freaks: VH1 is re-launching the Emmy-nominated and critically acclaimed series this summer. From the press release:

After more than 200 episodes, Behind the Music is now focusing on some of our favorite artists of today. From rock to hip-hop to pop, these innovative artists we are profiling are sure to captivate a whole new generation of viewers. In addition to the dramatic storytelling that made Behind The Music a worldwide hit, the reimagined version of the series will celebrate them as artists and will also feature originally shot verite footage of each artist, which will anchor each story in the present day.

New episodes will begin airing this summer and continue into the fall. Two confirmed episodes will be portraits of Lil Wayne and Scott Weiland. More information will follow.

True Rush fan. June 25, 2009 at 6:08 pm

Dear Behind The Muisic Editors

I’m a music fan of the 80′s rock era. I would like to know when are you going to dedicate storys from bands from the true music world. I see way too many artist of the late 90′s and and the 2000′s that haven’t even been around long enough to get a star anywhere but they already have stories out like they’ve been around forever. Please dedicate more behind the scene stories to bands that fans desreve to here about and know why they decided to stop their music like RUSH, Dokken, The Scorpions, Van Halen, Iron Maidden, Sammy Hagar, and so on. If i see a “Behind The Music” story on Miley Cyrus I think i will flip. I love the show but would like to see more artist that have paved their way longer than these youngsters.

Thr true Rush fan.

VH1 has turned out like MTV and radio stations, once a great place to showcase music with variety in its playlist, instead money and big business took over ruining a special art that was vibrant. Instead of telling them to kiss their (+%#%$)%(~@&$(* now the music business has their lips puckered kissing business (+%#%$)%(~@&$(*

R.B. August 5, 2009 at 7:51 pm

I’m not the only person who feels this way. Music documentries and “Behind The Music” of musicians that were made in the past like Chicago, Aerosmith, Fleetwood Mac and so many more were great. I miss the music documentries about the British Invasion and how rock began. Please VH1 bring back those shows. People really miss those well done classy shows.
Thank you!

Nick August 7, 2009 at 11:49 am

Does anyone know who else is being featured besides Lil Wayne and Scott Weiland? It would be great to see a new BTM every Sunday besides the constant “I Love (fill in the blank)” shows that never seem to end. It was ok when it was an actual semi-celebrity like Flavor Flav and Bret Michaels, but now that they are using the rejects (who in my opinion are probably the lowest form of life human life) from those shows Vh1 has become damn near unwatchable. On another note, I would like to see new Behind The Music episodes featuring: Van Halen, Queen, Boston, Michael Jackson, Blink-182, Alice In Chains, Slash, Wu-Tang Clan, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Iron Maiden and 2pac. It’s hard to believe they haven’t done a Michael Jackson, Van Halen, Queen or 2pac episode but have done Milli Vanilli, Kid Rock, Creed and Leif Garret. They deserve a Behind The Music episode about as much as I do. Sometimes I think Vh1 is programmed by the children of _$!^`$~$^^~`^)~#)( ed incestuous parents. If you need proof just take a look at the Sunday night line-ups from the past year.

andy schwertman August 9, 2009 at 5:52 pm

i would like to see the Behind the music on The black crowes because they’re one of my favorite rock bands of all time def leppard wouldn’t be bad either

NDMetal August 10, 2009 at 11:33 am

Scott Weiland? Lil Wayne? BARF! What’s next, Hannah Montana? How about featuring some REAL music artists like Queensryche, Iron Maiden; updating Def Leppard and Motley Crue; the Scorpions; how about some of the 60′s and 70′s groups like Three Dog Night, the British Invasion; Psychedelic Era, etc, etc Forget those crap rappers and hiphoppers–that isn’t music!

Matt W August 10, 2009 at 11:49 pm

PLEASE air the Original “Behind the Music” episodes on VH-1 Classics!!!!!!!!!!!

NDMETAL August 11, 2009 at 1:07 pm

This is scarry–I thought I heard that there was going to be a btm on Pink—BARF! that ain’t a musician!

dave August 15, 2009 at 11:44 pm

Let’s see…acts on btm: Boston, Loverboy, Michael Jackson, Stryper, Taylor Swift, Lita Ford, just to name a few.

Dave August 16, 2009 at 9:22 pm

First I’d like to say that Behind the Music has done excellent work airing shows about real musicians especially from the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s. It’s makes me sick however seeing shows about recent stars who are young, unproven and not true musicians but dancers and entertainers. I plead to see bands with long proven musicians who actually write their own music. For what it’s worth I would pay big $$$ to see a show about The Scorpions, Van Halen, Whitesnake, Cinderella (great blues rock band more than the glam hair metal everyone believes) OR any other band before 1995! I hope to see more bands that encapsulate the )~&^*~^~(+#+($) le of the show Behind the MUSIC… not behind the show business. Great to have ya back!

Please have more shows about real music and not the dancing/entertainment type “artists” who think they’re musicians. I would love to see The Scorpions, Whitesnake, Van Halen, Cinderella (real blues rock band more than the glam metal they’re seen as) OR anyone from before 1995!!! Remember the name of the show is Behind the MUSIC… not behind the showbiz. Great to have you back.

Robyn August 17, 2009 at 2:12 pm

VH1 Thank godness you are bringing back music to your music channel. I was starting to think of VH1 as a dating site instead of music TV. After your endless hook up shows in the past few years it will be nice to watch some shows about real people, real struggles, real heartache and real happy endings. It will be a nice change. Thanks

Kat August 17, 2009 at 7:47 pm

I want to see BTM of both Selena and Jennifer Lopez- I loved them as a young teen and would like to see them again.

vito August 18, 2009 at 6:37 pm

kevstar6942 August 19, 2009 at 2:17 pm

kim August 19, 2009 at 5:47 pm

Shane August 19, 2009 at 7:01 pm

I would love to see the Behind the Music on Iron Maiden,Mike Patton, and Dinosaur Jr.

NDMetal August 22, 2009 at 8:33 pm

It seems there will be btm on 50 cent–huh?? another worthless rapper who has accomplished NOTHING and has nothing to do with music. It seems that vh1 just doesn’t understand what REAL “music” is–and what REAL music artists are……..

Stephen August 23, 2009 at 12:31 am

I just want to see Lil wayne and anything in the hip-hop genre. Common, kanye west, Jay-Z… NOT the crappy stuff like T pain and this commercialized crap produced just to get little kids and #$^$!%%`+!~!%*!#!( s to listen to it…

Chris August 25, 2009 at 3:04 am

I loved Behind the Music, and Pop-Up video

Shelby August 28, 2009 at 9:14 am

I am so sick of reality shows ..so this news offers me a glimmer of hope ! I am a fan of all Behind the Music episodes no matter if I liked the band/singer or not ! I would love to see you rerun your old ones. A newer band I don’t think you profiled yet would be 3 Doors Down.

sugartaste1 August 28, 2009 at 7:44 pm

Where is Scott Weiland? The upcoming artists have been listed and he is not among them. I wanted to chime in with others to ask that more of the “real” artists be portrayed…example : where is Alice in Chains? I too would love to see one on the King of Pop and agree that it would have to be 2 hours long. As for the upcoming episodes, I will be tuning in because I am so excited that BTM is back. It was always one of my favorite shows and has been missed. I too would love the opportunity to own some of the old episodes, as there were many that were favorites, and I also agree that VH1 should run the older series on the Classic channel. Regardless, I’m happy the series has returned. Can we just make sure not to tarnish this legendary show by chosing unworthy artists…?

Johnathan Horton September 1, 2009 at 1:15 pm

Yes…. its about time…can u all do a behind the music on rapper lil kim??

Angel September 2, 2009 at 12:39 pm

christopher September 3, 2009 at 5:31 pm

Please rerun classic episodes of Behind the music when the show comes back in September, particularly The Badfinger episode, that was one of my favorites.

Eric M Felton September 4, 2009 at 11:12 am

I’m glad that VH1 Behind The Music is coming back. A show about who are the celebrities that got caught up into drugs. Heres some aviice to the celebrities. DOn’t let nothing or nobody get you caught up into drugs

ed wilson September 8, 2009 at 3:42 pm

CBS September 10, 2009 at 11:29 pm

Your show gave Lil Wayne the voice that I felt was necessary for me to understand who he is – a talented young man.

The reality shows that VH1 produces are horrible – behind the music is an excellent production that is high quality and actually opens the artists up to the public – I would love to see Jill Scott, Sade, Anthony Hamilton, Daughtery, En Vogue (that may have been done already) but there are so many artists that deserve to be profiled. How about Debarge, Aretha Franklin, – thank you for profiling Lil Wayne – I still will not allow my daughter to listen to his music, but I will be adding his songs to my Ipod now.

Thanks,

Goo Girl September 12, 2009 at 12:17 pm

Thanks

Angela September 16, 2009 at 4:41 pm

Thanks for bringing back “Behind the music” its a great show! But, I’d like to see VH1 finally do a BTM on the group Jodeci. I would bet my last dollar that the ratings for that show would be incredible! Those guys completely changed the sound and style of R&B much like they’re New Jack Swing forefathers from Teddy Riley’s amazing group GUY. VH1, you’re trippin’ if you don’t hurry up and do a profile on Jodeci. Make it happen execs…make it happen!

Frances September 17, 2009 at 11:00 pm
