The VH1 Hip Hop Honors 2009 broadcast will premiere on VH1 on Tuesday, October 13 at 9PM ET/PT.*
Def Jam has launched the careers of some of the biggest names in music history and has inspired other emerging labels and artists. Special homage will be paid to the architects of the label, Rick Rubin, Russell Simmons, Kevin Liles, Lyor Cohen, Julie Greenwald, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Antonio “L.A.” Reid (Chairman Island Def Jam Music Group). Presenters and performers honor the history and the legacy of Def Jam Records through never-seen-before interviews, archival footage and special musical performances of some of Def Jam’s greatest hits. It promises to be a night that will showcase how Def Jam came and remains to be one of the premier record labels of hip-hop music.

and yet… no bone thugs n harmony.. shame shame shame
I really think you should honor OutKast as a honoree. They distinctlly put ATL on da map befoer anybody with classic albums as Aquemini, ATLiens, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, and etc…. and Big Boi and 3000 are two authentic artists that NO ONE will duplicate
So what rappers are actually being honored this year? I co-sign that it’s high time Outkast got honored. I think Scarface and UGK deserve some recognition too.
I have some Illustrations & Airbrush portraits of def jam artist that i would like to submit. How can i go about that?

I wonder what’s gonna happen between ja rule and eminem….and i don’t know why em is here?? he’s not and never be on def jam!!!!
i dont think its a shame that bone hasnt been honored yet.. i mean if jay-z is just gettin in and russell simmons i think bone will be in by 2011 i think they got some of the older rap groups 1st like public enemy wu tang clan, cyress hill, naughty by nature, de la soul , tribe called quest, whodini, all groups that should be honored in front of bone
I like the line up for Hip-Hop Honors, but I don’t see LL Cool J and EPMD

it’s a disgust that gangstarr has yet to be recognized,or pete rock and cl smooth, what about jeru the damaja, that’s hip hop at it’s best how dare vh1 not honor these legends
I wonder if my boy E-40 will ever get honored at the Hip Honors Awards. It would be a shame, but not surprising if he doesn’t get it. He has not received the recognition that he truly deserves. He is the most underrated rapper in hip hop history! I don’t care which rapper that some people might mentioned as the best no one has put it down like 40 Water. Long live E-40.
eminem all the way
you guys act like this is the LAST vh1 honors, im sure everyone will get their recognition. there are a lot of hip hop artists that havent been honored yet, it’s only once a year…………have some patience people.

This is a COP-OUT! It’s like whoever is apart of the induction panel just simply gave up. Last year’s show was amazing and instead of being thoughtful and actually selecting artists’, you just choose a whole record label. I’m not saying that they shouldn’t eventually be inducted but the whole damn show shouldn’t be about them. Not right now. This is bull and you know it.
Why are you rewriting history?
Where’s – 3rd Bass? LL Cool J? Slick Rick? EPMD? Nice & Smooth?
I know for a fact that some of these artists haven’t even been asked to appear – these are artists who put the roof on DJ.
MY picks for the honorees

To Whom It May Concern:
I would like to know when you are going to put Queen Latifah and MC Lyte in the Hip Hop Honors? They deserve to be in the Hip Hop Honors just as much as anyone else. Please put Queen Latifah in the Hip Hop Honors and not just as a presentor or a host. Thank you for your time and patience.
utfo geto boys fresh prince jazzy jeff outkast ganksta nip ugk thats what im saying
I don’t know if alot of the people posting here are aware but, ALOT of the people you’re talking about have already been honored like L.L. so, why keep having the same people on over and over again?
It’s only one show, once a year you can’t have everybody on it.

DaH, Def Jam will be honored for there work n the industry. at first it was all good with list of entertainers until I seen the names of onyx? why? they tryin to give them a Lil paycheck, and Redman and method man I could have done with out– there rap duo style that they have together is corny and hilarious, moving on—-public enemy and warren G yes definitely needed a paycheck I could have also done without them. What is the deal with Jay-z not being there DEF-Jam basically made his career DEF Jam helped him a lot. his knew CD is not doing so well first week was like what 3-4hun-thousand Mary J, Blige CD did better Jay z new CD is whack I have been a fan of his for so long, I seen him on the Bill Mahler show and he mentioned with all his last CD’S he had a lot to talk about I guess now cause he got a couple dollars it ain’t to much to holler bout lately if you ask me he has spit better versus on other people tracks as a feature.
LL COOL J… I don’t understand why LL hasn’t been honored… It is a terrible shame that he is one of the biggest artists ever and he is not even mentioned as someone who help build Def Jam into what it is… He has not only spent his whole career on the label, but he is a Hip Hop icon… Such a shame…
You gotta put this on DVD. 25 years, to celebrate Def Jam! OH FOR SHIIIIZ!. I would pay a fortune for a copy. I will sell my car if i had too
Do anybody know if they are having a HIP HONOR WEEK This year. pce

It disgust me that DMX was invited to perform at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors Awards.
