The latest Celebrity Rehab spin-off, Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew, will tackle the mostly unexamined world of sex addiction. It debuts Sunday, Nov. 1 at 10/9c. More details are in the press release below, and after that, get a look at the cast of the show on set…
VH1, Dr. Drew and Irwin Entertainment have expanded their documentary series on addiction to examine one of society’s most taboo topics, sex addiction, in the upcoming series Sex Rehab With Dr. Drew. The series is set to premiere on VH1 on Sunday, November 1 at 10pm.
Addictions are nothing new, and most people are aware of those involving alcohol, drugs, and eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, but few know about and understand sex addiction. It afflicts roughly 3%-6% of the American population, and just like other addictions, its impact on personal lives can be devastating. The affliction can wreak havoc on the mental and physical health of those afflicted as well as destroy marriages, families, careers and even finances.
Dr. Drew and a team of the nation’s foremost experts on sexual addiction will guide eight patients through an intensive state of the art program. Living together for 21 days, they’ll meet with Dr. Drew in daily one-on-one and group therapy sessions in order to get to the root of their compulsive behavior.
Dr. Drew is a highly respected practicing MD, is board certified in addiction medicine and assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at KECK USC School of Medicine, who will once again give viewers an unflinching look at exactly how the rehab process works and what it feels like for participants. Dr. Drew hopes to use his patients to humanize the process and show viewers that treatment is a viable way to break the cycle of addiction.
Beginning Monday, October 26 fans can catch a sneak peek of the season’s first episode on VH1.com – one week before the on-air premiere. Subsequent episodes will be available on VH1.com the morning after they air. Additional video content from Sex Rehab With Dr. Drew including extras from each episode will be available on VH1.com and on VH1 Mobile throughout the season.
Sex Rehab With Dr. Drew is executive produced by John Irwin and Bruce Toms for Irwin Entertainment. Dr. Drew Pinsky and Howard Lapides are also executive producing. Jeff Olde, Jill Holmes, and Noah Pollack are executive producers for VH1.
(FYI, that’s marriage/family therapist Jill Vermeire in the shot above with Dr. Drew.)
The eight Sex Rehab patients (along with some biographical info on them) are below…
Jennifer Ketchum (aka Penny Flame) – Porn actress / Director / Business woman
Jennifer Ketcham, 26 years old (former adult star known as Penny Flame) is now pursuing a writing career and life in production behind the lens. As an adult performer Jennifer climbed to the top winning over 5 awards and directing educational guides for Vivid. Jennifer still owns her adult website PennyFlame.com (NSFW, duh) and directed and produced all the content on there. Her latest venture has been a confessional blog documenting her struggle to move away from her adult film life as Penny towards becoming Jennie. Taking everything she learned from the show she has remained sober and has been enjoying all the beauties sobriety has to offer.
James “Jamie” Lovett – Surfer / Wakeboarder
James Lovett is one of the world’s top rated surfers and wakeboarders. Lovett, who started surfing before the age of 10, was perfecting aerials at the age of ten. At 14 years old Lovett turned professional and has since dominated the sport winning countless competitions and medals. In 2004, at the age of 17 years old, Lovett climbed his way to the top of the wake surfing when he won the Centurion World Wake Surfing Championships.
Nicole Narain – Model / Playboy Playmate
Soon after becoming Playboy’s Miss January 2002, she appeared in music videos from the likes of Diddy, Mario Wayans and Jermaine Dupri. She’s also appeared on Entourage, Mad TV and American Heiress. She reached a new level of exposure when a sex tape featuring her with Colin Farrel leaked. “That pretty much ruined my life,” she says. Lately, she has been focusing on writing. “I’m ready to purge,” she reports.
Kari Ann Peniche – Beauty queen / Model / Fashion designer
Kari Ann was Miss Oregon Teen USA 2002, competed at Miss Teen USA 2002, won Miss Oregon United States 2003 then went on to win Miss United States Teen 2003. In Nov 2004 she appeared in Playboy. Along with various movie roles, Kari was briefly engaged to Aaron Carter. Her upcoming book, Stripped, Strung Out, and Beautifully Abused, focuses on sexual abuse, domestic violence, power, control, relationships and goals. Her clothing line is Strung Out Girl.
Kendra Jade Rossi – Ex-porn star / Music manager
During her years in the porn industry, Kendra became a well known adult film star. However, she also became tabloid fodder. (Star magazine and Us Weekly accused her of breaking up Kevin Federline and Britney Spears marriage after a trip to Vegas, for example.) She finally left the adult film industry in 2001 on the verge of a complete breakdown. She fell headlong into alcoholism and was also diagnosed as an agoraphobic with severe anxiety and panic disorders, which introduced the world of prescription drug abuse.
In 2007, Kendra was introduced to Lukas Rossi, winner of Rockstar Supernova, by mutual friends, Dave Navarro and Tommy Lee – and the two immediately clicked. They married 4 months after meeting. Kendra will tell anyone who will listen that Lukas saved her life. It was his love and devotion to her that spurred her to face her personal demons and reach out for help and sobriety.
Duncan Roy – Producer / Writer / Director
Duncan directed the acclaimed 2002 film AKA. He has worked as a journalist, and teaches low-budget filmmaking at UCLA extension. See his Wikipedia page for more info.
Amber Smith – Supermodel/Reality TV star/Actress
An internationally recognized supermodel and actress for 20 years, Amber Smith, also acted in films such as L.A. Confidential, American Beauty and The Mirror Has Two Faces. She appeared on the second season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, where she went public with her 16-year addiction to opiate painkillers. On the show, Amber underwent a painful withdrawal from drugs. She also appeared on the Rehab spin-off Sober House.
Phil Varone – Musician
Phil Varone is an accomplished drummer, music producer and songwriter best known for his work with the bands Saigon Kick and Skid Row. In 2004, Phil left Skid Row and the music business to pursue acting and stand up comedy. After moving to Los Angeles, he spent the first two years producing the feature length documentary, Waking Up Dead. Phil also lectures in colleges throughout the United States and is the creator and host of the Sex Stand Up and Rock and Roll Show.

Carrie Ann detracts from the recovery attention the rest of the clients need. She is uncooperative and hopeless. She should immediately be discharged and never allowed to return!
I agree with all those that believe and witnessed that Selma was unfairly terminated. That stupid brat Keri Ann has been a pain in the #&_^%))&#&!!_~! for everyone. She is disrespectful, antagonistic and many other bad traits that are not good for the healing of the rest of the group. I don’t understand why Dr. Drew keeps giving her opportunity after opportunity. Moreover, that brat didn’t deserve the sympathy of the group based on the biased explanation that the other therapist gave them.
On the other hand, Selma accepting her responsibility in the incident make me admire her much more. If I were her, I would fight for my rights against this stupid brat. I just watched a preview of the next episode, and she spills a glass of water on Sherrie’s chest. I hope that Dr. Drew has the guts to kick this imbecile from the center. I also expect she gets to see the opinion of the postings in this site. KERRI ANN YOU ARE DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!

After watching the episode in which Selma was fired from the center, the show has become more of a publicity stunt rather than what the ads intended it to be. Dr. Drew and his female counter part allowed themselves to not completely fill in the rest of the cast as to the manner in which Kari Ann was actually behaving. They stated that she was on her way to therapy when in fact several times she stated that she was not going. In any rehab that would be unacceptable and for the record I’m not stating that Selma was justified in her actions but it was she that was pushed to her reaction and the rest of the cast should be aware of that. Kari Ann should be held accountable and literally stripped of all perks for the remainder of her stay. I do hope that Selma will seek legal action in this matter as the “caught on tape” will be evidence enough, why don’t you show that to the rest of the cast and let them make the decision for themselves. Is Nicole the only person that sees Kari for what she really is, a winey, self-centered, lieing B**ch. From the comments that have been written there seems to be a common concern, you might want to follow up with this unless ratings are not a concern for you.
Oh my goodness…she throws things at ppl…and then is on the phone after cerfew and sits there like a princess like she’s doing nothing wrong! I’d like to do more than grab her by the hair!
I work in the mental health field which can be very physically and mentally draining. In this show they allow many perks I don’t see where I work. I guess its because they are on TV. I think Selma should have been held accountable but not fired. We are all human and when one puts up with crap on a daily basisl it can be overwhelming
I just wish the VERY BEST to all of them, including Kari Ann – although she doesn’t deserve at this time to continue, nor is she ready. She is jeopardizing everyone else by her behaviour. I hope she DOES get herself help one day when she is ready because the BIG CHIP on her shoulder seems to all tem from being VERY insecure – shje just doesn’t know what do do with herself, nor does she know how to interact decentlyu with others, unless she is getting all the attention …. clearly it stems from the abuse in her life, coupled with the beauty pageants — looking for attention, love, acceptance …..
Anyway, to the rest of the group — you will be given coping skills to work on, it will be difficult however please remember:
WHAT YOU FEAR – YOU CREATE,
WHAT YOU FOCUS ON EXPANDS…
FOCUS ON POSITIVE, GOOD THINGS THAT CAN HELP YOU MOVE FORWARD WITH SOBRIETY and HAPPINESS and build your confience as you go …
May you overcome all of your challenges and adversities – one day at a time :)
Dr Drew is just in it for the cash, he was on Dr Phil (another tv phony) when I was flipping through channels! He has a lot of down and out has-beens on his show, I call it skid-row for the boob-tube! Amber Smith must have a lot of time on her hands, because she has no job to go too, so she visits Drew again for another go round. Dr Drew sounds so monotone when he talks, like he could not care what happens to them when they leave, just as long as he can get his 15 minutes of shame on tv. The babe that’s with him is a dish, just another tv bimbo like a lot of the others. I watch it for the babes, wanna see Kari Ann and the porn chick do a 4some with Drew and his sidekick! Dr Drew must go home at night and do a good pull on his pud, with all the sex talks and the horned-up chicks around him, I would!
Kari Ann needs a swift kick it the butt! Life doesn’t revolve around her. How dare she treat other people beneath her. Everyone deserves respect! Yuck! I understand why no one wants to be around her. She has sense of entitlement!
I think Selma could have avoided the escalation if she simply reported Kari Ann’s defiance rather than attempting to somehow coerce Kari Ann into compliance with the program. At the same time, I agree that Kari Ann’s behavior was unacceptable long before the incident occurred.
Kerri Ann is a child!! How f***n stupid does she feel watching herself act like such a ~#&!(*&#!&+^#)+**) please kill ur self
I have been a Karie Ann and have had my abandonment reenacted in a therapy situation. My heart ached for her as I reexperienced my own pain. Toughlove may produce action to heal but the deep felt abandonment lasts indefinitely and makes it virtually impossible to not relapse into whatever your addiction may be. True help comes from unconditional love. As hard as it may be to extend it to rude, immature behavior. There are other consequences to change behavior than recreating abandonment and eliminating any chance for the patient to permanently heal.
im so glad kari ann got kicked out!!!!!!!
“”That girl threw a heavy object, you are allowed to react as a human to something like that. I hope she doesn’t just accept the firing but files a claim with the EEOC and/or files a civil lawsuit against the facility, Dr. Drew and the VH-1.”" As much as I hate Kari Ann, Selma should not have touched her. When you take a job as a counselor to addicts you have to know there is a risk they will lash out physically. She should have went straight to Dr. Drew that way Kari Ann has no way to squirm out of the hot seat. I hope this does not ruin Selma’s career.
Have a message for some of you…Pennie, I adore you, you touch my heart. i feel you are gonna make it…with anything. Phil, I think you are a great guy. You are a kind person with a soft heart towards others. Kendra, you need to stop whining and have you ever said anything positive? Kari Ann, you need a good spanking. Did your parents ever tell you of any rules or limits? No wonder people abandon you…who wants to be around you? The minute you put that plastic bag over your head I would have committed you. You need so much help girl!
Duncan, you are a good looking guy. I hope all the best for you.
Thank god you got rid of that abusive little @#$%^& she makes me sick.
She should be institutionalised. It made me sick to see how her destructive self-obsessed behaviour interrupted the healing of the others who clearly wanted the help.
I will NOT be buying her book.
I am outraged that Selma was fired because of Kerri Ann, a stupid wannabe that thinks she is better than others and has no respect for anyone. Her past doesn’t give her the right to mistreat people. Shame on you for firing Selma!
I have just been wondering from a psychological point of view…..Keri Ann has some SERIOUS serious issues, and I cannot put my finger on it. I mean that behavior was so completely all over the place and so bizarre. I would have to venture that she has mutiple personalites going on and they are all in serious conflict. She is a danger to society.
OMG!! I so love Amber Smith!!! I wish she would get her own reality TV show!
1st-You idiots are getting fired up over a VH-1 show. How sad are your lives? It’s an entertainment channel, not a community service.
2nd-I love how everyone screams racism just because the woman who got fired is black. That’s an argument people fall back on when they have no argument. You are the true racists. Grow up. You’re as pathetic as that Kari Ann slut.
Dear Dr. Drew:
I love the show. I am a avid watcher. I was wondering when you spoke to Phil Varone on-one-one and stated that “some girls will see the best in you, and want to fix you.” I am wondering why this happens as I am one of those girls who are drawn to individuals like Phil.
Thanks
Was Kari Ann ever charged with +@)#$*(&$%*~%^` aulting Selma and Shelly? NO ONE, including those who have been violated, has the right to violate another verbally, physically, emotionally. I wonder why the staff and patients are not empowered to protect themselves from abuse; from what I saw, the place was being run by Kari Ann. That must have been an ego rush for her to have everyone scurrying around taking care of her needs while she was shouting obscenities and hurling vases and water at everyone. It’s disturbing and hard to respect this treatment center and staff when they do not seem to respect themselves or patients.
Dr. Drew and his team in this show as the previouse ones face a vary difficult job )!#!~!&$)~~&!(^ isting addicts to face the long road of recovery. Unfortunately as viewers we do not see the entire situation when major events ocure, and I find this season perticullarly disconected. There are many moments in a program this season that I reallize that scenes are disjointed and we are getting clips from different time frames which I presume occures in edditing. However, this has created a season which is less realistic than previouse and at times I feel like Dr. Drew and therapist Jill have haven’t conected with the group especially when individuals like Karrie-Ann are so disruptive to the group. Once again I beleive that as viewers we are not seeing the entire issue at any given time so we can not judge. Only this season I feel that the show is not giving the appropriate view into this rehab.
I do commend the rehab team for bringing this story forward as it effects more of the population than any one wants to recognize. Abuse of drugs, sexuality or a person causes major negative effects in lives and as a society we need to be more aware of this. I am sure many opinions are held on how this show is being seen and conducted and that truley is a blessing because it means we are thinking and discussing the topic therefore it is educating.
To the members of the show I applaud you for having the strength to face your demons and seek the help you deserve. May your journey be a safe and succesfull one.
Thank You.
Kari-Ann is brutal, but she’s a patient. Selma is staff. Selma knows going in that she could be subjected to beligerant, hostile and aggressive patients. It is her job NOT to react.
And what the hell is wrong with people always throwing the race card down. If anything YOU are the racist for not being able to see the situation outside of your “black vs white” mentality. Race played no part in Selma’s dismissal.
I admire Selma for taking as much abuse as she did (I don’t think i could’ve) without reacting. However KariAnn deserved the disdain of the group, and the watered-down version of events to temper the groups scorn for KariAnn, delivered by Jill and Dr Drew, was weak. I was hoping Nicole Narain would shred KariAnn when she confronted her.
I just wanted to thank Dr. Drew and the cast of of sex rehab for sharing with the world their inner most demons. You are touching people all over the world and given us some strentgh to look at ourselves and our demons.
Thank you.
Kari Ann has borderline personality disorder, hence the behavior issues, ‘I love you don’t leave me’ stance, and drama queen central (not to mention the hyper-sexuality). I am a bit surprised that they didn’t treat her with behavior modification model in mind: limits, boundaries, and consequences. As for the rest of the show, I love it!
I don’t know about anyone else, but Kari Ann really needs her ($*@!+%`@%@`!$# kicked. She is such a spoiled rotten @~%^$`(*@(`%~!!#@ with such an overwhelming sense of entitlement,it’s nauseating. She is such a crazy @~%^$`(*@(`%~!!#@ Blech!
Is there really such a thing as sexual addiction or is it just another manifestation of Obsessive Compulsivity and para-philia?…without addressing the underlying anxiety disorder and just focusing on the sexual compulsivity, I believe it sets someone up for failure because at some point they will have sex..masturbation, thoughts, etc….and then by putting all this crap in their head, they will feel guilt and more shame about the normal activity of sex…sex is normal…sexual compulsivity is driven by the same anxiety ,guilt and shame of other compulsions
Hey Dr.Drew I Love Your Shows
Sex Rehab Is Better Then Sex With Mom And Dad.
I Didn’t Fined It Fair That Selma Had To Leave Because Of Kari-Ann I Find She Only Goes To Group To Do The Fun Stuff Not Really To Talk And Kendra And Jennifer And Amber Are So Pretty And I Think They Are Getting Better.
I Hope Everything Works Out For All Of Them.

May all these self-indulgent whiners someday learn what a real problem really is. Jesus F Christ…
As an incest and rape survivor, and a recovering alchoholic with twenty one years of sobriety, I can only salute the cast of the show for their courage to make public thier struggle with thier sex addictions.
Also, Dr. Drew and Jill Vermeire, there are addicts out here who are alive today because of the work you do.
Thank you.
This show is a complete waste of time, just as Keri Ann Peniche is a complete waste of life and skin.
ok well we would like to say that keri ann is a selfish little brat and needs to grow up. America who ever voted for her to be miss teen usa you guys are plum retarted! the girl acts like she is 7 years old. but the other members of this show did a really good job and they all acted like they wanted to get help which is real good. i hope they all end up doing well in life.
Kari Ann needs her ~~#(#%*#)&&(%$$ KICKED HARD and THEN she needs to be admitted into a psychiatric facility for a full ~~#(#%*#)&&(%$$ essment and medication. Its clear she has severe mental health and behavioral issues and manipulates people into doing things that suit her and only her and throws a tantrum or turns on the plastic tears to invoke sympathy to get her way. I have great empathy for the staff that put up with her crap – she would have been out the door if it were me running this facility. This little witch pushed everyones buttons to the limit. What really got to me how she refused to wake UP in the mornings and ordered the staff to get her juice – when they didn’t she’d say they were “mean”. ~~#(#%*#)&&(%$$ kicking from here to KINGDOM COME!!!!!! Maybe she’ll wake UP then.
is this show for real or is it just a show
Did this program even do these people any good? I mean, even in the last episode, they all look so weak and broken. I don’t think this program helped them at all. The weren’t ready to leave the rehab, and the producers just left them out on the streets with their demons still tormenting them. It’s like they got diagnosed with a terminal disease, but are released before they were even close to recovery. It only made things worse!!
Once again, there is NO such thing as sexual addiction..it is a false and misleading term…where in the DSM-IV or the ICD-9 does it have sexual addiction..it doesn’t..it doesn’t exist…is there sexual compulsivity?…is there sexual harm? ..is there sex problems?…Absolutely…but that is because human beings, who are sexual creatures…have various other mental disorders and when people(who are sexual) have mental disorders they invariably have sexual problems as well…sexual compulsivity is a manifestation of OCD…by using this false and misleading term…Dr. Drew is harming his patients..by bringing back guilt and shame around sexual questions..jesus you might as well send them all back to catholic school..it would be cheaper.
Kari Ann is such a rotten person and a b_tch
Enjoyed the show very much and my heart goes out to these folks, even the ego-centric and broken Miss Teen America. In subsequent installments, does Dr. Drew guide Amber to the point of understanding that she seeks out unavailable men because she is trying to find and “fix” her father? Hope this could be a springboard for discussion. Your work is really positive and impressive. Thank you to you and your staff.
I am in so much love with Nicole. I want to let her know that I am here to give her any kind of emotional suport that she might need… I just want to be there for you…:)

I’m from Sweden. I’ve watched all the previous shows. This one was obviously very different due to the nature of sex addiction. Even though sex addicts are as messed up as drug addicts I think it’s fair to say that the actual addiction is less deadly – in the sense that the struggle for life is often less literal and acute than with drug addiction. But that also means that the psychological and existential struggle (although not necessarily the underlying problem)is more visible. I think that is where a lot of the shame comes from.
Rehab is a great serie. Very interesting and engaging. What I don’t like is the loud no-attention-span-friendly production – the ridiculously fast tempo, the garish visual style and all the dramaturgic efforts made to emphasize the drama (including the sound effects and all the previews). Please VH1, I don’t care if you call it American, modern or Xtreme, cut the crap. Less MTV, more BBC.
Dear Dr Screw You Drew:
What a piece of ^%+_(_)#)+`_+++( you are for taking vulnerable peolple, many of whom are not in an emotionally healthy place, and exploiting their problems in public.
I would just like to say that your show is AWSOME, and have a few comments if I may.As I watch the show (season 2)I couldn’t help but notice how two face some of the ppl are in there, there was no reason for the girls two gang up on jamie at all,the only person with a sense of any kind of brain thinking at all is phil and I think he is the best open minded, down to earth about his addiction and try to help along the way.As I see it Kendra and Jennifer are there just for the camera.I also think that Duncan will do anything to be on the side of the girls and kiss there butts,so please the only two that deserve any kind of props in my eyes are Phil and Jamie. The ppl on your show should be true about why they are there, and like I said Phil and James are the only ones in my opinion, also I think Amber should get some props also she is a good person and doesn’t involve herself in the drama the other girls are always looking for …….THANKS for listening.
I followed the program here in Canada and felt the celebrities worked hard. Kari-ann, I hope you didn’t give up your treatment.
The program went deep into issues and I felt three weeks wasn’t long enough-but then again what time frame would be long enough, for abuses and life long struggles? Maybe 6 weeks would have given the group more time to process the wounds that had been opened-and more time to talk about aftercare.
I hope everyone is well on their journey-I hope everyone has reached out for support. Thank you for talking about sexual abuse, addiction and relationship abuses (including self relationship). This is meaningful to most young people living in a sexualized world.
HAPPy New Year to everyone who enterd SEX REHAB….
I must say…….its a start to realize and except that you have a problem as humans being
The Cold world that we live in is what the world has turn people into other things you didn’t dream of.. as soon as we step out side of our door in the morning THE SHOW WILL BEGIN!
Always know there is no one in this world who knos you better then GOD and when your back is up against the wall he is the only and I do mean only one who understnds and who will bring you thru it.
I must say…nicole you are amazing and beautiful! To james iam glad to see you stay away from non sense. Phil u kept it real! I will be praying for all of yous plse rember prayers go along way…..He won’t disapoint YOU!
Sexual Addiction – Real or not Real? Everyone has their own opinions. What I do believe, society today is over sexed. Sex is everywhere, so, no wonder there are so many who turn to sex to relieve emotional vacancies. I have enjoyed watching this season of Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew. This show has helped me to understand a small part of my husband’s inner demon and his struggles with sexual addiction and he realizes that he is not alone in his struggles. Although my husband and I are in therapy to understand his addiction and where it comes from, we are reaching out for other resources to attack this demon from all sides. We understand that recovering from sexual addiction is ultimately up to the addict and like all addicts; sobriety of addiction is a lifetime commitment. Hats off to all of those who shared their struggles and turned them around in accomplishment (even KariAnn). Thank You Dr. Drew, and Team, for providing such a show and to VH1 for hosting it. I look forward to another season!
Has anyone else noticed that the commercials running during this show were all for sexually explicit products? It’s in poor taste.
Look. Bottom line is addiction sucks. Its not about placing blame. Its about taking responsibility for destructive behavior. “Getting better” takes time and is an on going process. I used to listen to Dr.Drew on the radio and he got through to me. He has good advice for those who want to heal themselves and their lives. These people are going down a long tough road. Congrats to them and I wish them great success. God bless.
I was watching the last episode of Celeb Rehab and whoever did the Memorium for Dr. Morton Pinsky–you spelled his name wrong it says (Pinksy) OUCH!!!!
This was a fantastic series and I think it should be renewed for a second season.
