2009 In Under Three Minutes

|

The clip above of the video for“2009: That Really Happened?!? (The Remix by DJ Steve Porter)” summarizes the year in the best way possible: Autotuned and alongside a throbbing house beat. Lady Gaga‘s wardrobe, Kanye West‘s interruption, President Obama‘s fly swat, Balloon Boy, John and Kate, Octomom and Twitter are all chopped up and blended to create the most succinct explanation of 2009 possible.

This video arrives in advance of VH1′s year-end special, 2009: That Really Happened!?!, which premieres Tuesday, December 8, at 9/8c. Check the press release below for more info on the show…

Hold on, it’s going to be a bumpy ride! From Twitter to Twilight and Speidi to Susan Boyle, VH1 will look back on the last 12 months of pop culture craziness, trends, scandals, hookups, breakups and breakdowns. It’s all packed into a one-hour year-end special 2009: That Really Happened!?! premiering on VH1 Tuesday, December 8 at 9 PM. Additional video clips not seen in the on-air special will be available on VH1.com.

2009 was an unpredictable year. Who would have thought vampires would take over Hollywood? Or Christian Bale’s on-set meltdown would become a remix hit? Could anyone have foreseen how fast Twitter would sweep the nation in 140 words or less?

It was a year full of feuds and meltdowns with Kanye West upstaging country darling Taylor Swift at the VMAs, David Letterman admitting to several in-house indiscretions, and Black Eyed Peas front man Will.i.am taking on the “Queen of all Media,” Perez Hilton. The music scene made headlines with the unlikely emergence of Scottish singer Susan Boyle and the meteoric rise of pop dominatrix Lady Gaga, all while the world lost one of music’s most beloved artists, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

2009: That Really Happened!?! will bring these stories to viewers in a delicious pop culture smorgasbord featuring the most shocking scandals, outrageous celeb feuds, ridiculous trends and embarrassing episodes of the year. All of 2009’s best and worst moments will be delivered by our unique panel of celebrities (Ray J, Mark McGrath, Cheryl “Salt” James of Salt-N-Pepa), comedians (Chuck Nice, Michelle Collins and Sherrod Small) and pop culture aficionados (Simon Doonan, Lola Ogunnaike, Ben Widdicombe, Noah Levy [In Touch] Jared Shapiro [Life & Style] and Lori Bergamotto [People]). Plus, there will be a special musical recap of the year courtesy of internet remix king DJ Steve Porter. Wait till you see what he does with 2009! [Note: If you watched the video above, you already have.]

Looking back on a crazy year is always fun. But reliving it VH1-style makes it even better. So don’t miss 2009: That Really Happened!?!
