Let’s Talk About…Celibacy

One of the most common comments we’ve seen regarding Let’s Talk About Pep is that people don’t buy Pep’s claim that she’s been celibate for four years. We talked about her “dry spell” in a video interview that will be posted in this blog soon, but in the meantime, we also wanted to point out that this is something Pep has discussed extensively in the past. There’s an entire chapter called “Celibacy: Very Necessary” in her 2008 memoir (also called Let’s Talk About Pep). In it, she writes:

“I decided to shut it completely down and be celibate. It was time. I had to learn how to love myself. And I had to be that woman that could attract that man who would deserve to be with me.

The way people go on these fasts to cleanse their bodies of toxins, I decided to fast from sex, to clean my spirit from another kind of toxin.

…I have been on the not-so-special side too often. I have given myself away for cheap too many times. I can remember sitting there at dinner thinking, ‘What will I have to do for all of this?’ As if I didn’t deserve a free meal!

How do you lose yourself as a woman? It starts with the little things–allowing him to talk to you a certain way. Then it progresses from there. I’ve allowed a lot. I’ve done everything from allowing a man to beat me to signing for a car to paying his cell phone bill. I can’t tell you how many cars I’ve been stuck with and insurance and all that when the relationship is over. A man who will let a woman do that doesn’t love her…I know now what it looks like when a man doesn’t love you. I am working on what love does look like.”

There’s a lot more on the subject and the trauma and abuse that led up to her decision. In fact, it’s almost bizarre that it hasn’t been discussed yet how the book Let’s Talk About Pep is a key companion piece to its namesake reality show.

Pepa from the start developed a reputation as a supreme hot and sexy Artist. Not a Tramp. So, I find it very consistent to hear that she has been celibate for 4 years.

I admire Pep so much and really hopes that she keeps her vow of celibacy. I am encouraged to preserve that which is precious to me until God sends a man that is worthy of it. Young women these days are exploited and find value in there physical attributes. Pep has given hope to me to maintain and do what I’m doing and wait!

I can totally relate to pep, i have been there and i find in women, they do loose themselves, by letting me talk to them any kind of way, let th.eir man cheat and accept it, just because he is paying rent or whatever. I see a lot of pep in me. Keep up the good work

Do not buy that claim that Pep been celibate for 4 years. It mite have been 1 or 2 years, but 4 no! She has all this fake hair and most men do not like that. She needs to get natural first and foremost b4 a real maen will step to her for real.

I believe Pep! It is easy to practice celibacy if you are waiting for the right relationship. Go Pep . . . Go!!!

Ms. Kittie

That guy was a jerk and needs a swift kick. He played her.

I can related to Pep. I’ve been celibate far longer than 4 years, and no one believes me either. But then most of the non-believers are wh*res with STDs and a bunch of babies by different daddies, so who cares what they believe. And I just found the book at the library about a month ago and finished it in one sitting. Great stuff! Handle your biz, girl!

I believe Pep’s been celibate for four years. To me, she seems like a strong-willed woman who when she puts her mind to something will do her best to accomplish it. You don’t have the musical success she and Salt had without the quality of perservance.

Wow…Kittie needs to really pull TH up, Pep really should not have invited her to destroy her budding relationship with Tom, she was So out of order and just OMG raw, rude and ridiculous. Who is watching Joumana’s children? Oh, Jacque I wished I could talk with you…”free your mind”, meen isditate and imagine. Get to a point where you hit a bump in the road :o and you should be Fiiine girl! Unfortunately, I do believe that Pep may be on stand by…when you get tired of the games and not meeting what you want as a Grown A-Woman, you learn to stand still. standing and flirting ’til then is so-ok, that way you don’t have to encounter the mess and regrets. Tom seems to be on point. Hope all of this is not scripted.
