Examining Rehab 3 With Dr. Drew – Episode 5

She’s baa-aack! In this week’s Celebrity Rehab video recap, Dr. Drew talks at length about the Rehab return of Kari Anne Peniche and the challenges she poses to the staff, Tom Sizemore’s girlfriend Monroe and the patients’ visit with a woman whose alcoholism resulted in a drunk-driving fatality.

Check out screen shots from the episode in the gallery below:

Just let him go he will be dead in a year! Makes me sick that people like him who have everything or had everything just throw it away and other people who would give up anything to have half of what he has makes me sick

I’m glad that Dr Drew brought up the point that Aderol was an amphetamine and was a part of her problem.

I know someone who acts exactly like her except his problem that I know of anyway is that he works out but insists on drinking sports drinks before his weekend warrior type workouts-goes to the gym an hour or two. We’re also debating wether he’s doing steroids but I’ll be darn if he doesn’t mirror Kari Annes behavior on workout days especially after coming back from the gym. He also can down a dozen cans of diet soda in a day. He’s also a binge drinker drinking almost 7 days a week. Literally he is just as snappy and you can’t tell him anything.

As several commentors and CRH stars have pointed out Kari Anne probably has other problems but after seeing the affect of speed on someone I think Dr Drew made the right call giving her a shot at rehab.

I think getting her off the speed will tone down her personality. I don’t think it’s just the drugs but they definately amplify her problems and personality. I know we just throw our hands up in the air when our sports drink guy goes off. You almost have to let them go just to prevent a roid rage type episode. Then they get their way and &*($+~@$$`^#___ ume they’re right but then get frustrated/snap when they don’t get their way. The people giving in reward that behavior knowingly or not and the Kari Annes of the world WILL take advantage.

juliana February 5, 2010 at 2:57 am

wow I have never seen such a Horrible person! She is like a 20.0 earthquake! trying to make everyone she comes in contact with to try to make them as miserable as she is!
Everyone has there own issues and she thinks the place revolves around her!
WOW!!!!!!!

Mary February 5, 2010 at 11:35 am

Any consideration given that Kari Ann may have more than just a drug and sex addiction?
She appears mentally ill. (Personality Disorder?)
Isn’t it common to self-treat those with the above?
I feel for her, but I don’t understand why so many people are enabling her behavior? She must be making a lot of money somehow.

pat moan February 5, 2010 at 11:56 am

I feel for tom sizemore. I also think monroe slipped dope in his mouth when she came into the interview and planted a big kiss on him. the oldest trick in the book for dopers.

James February 5, 2010 at 1:32 pm

It is so good to have KariAnne back! I have so missed her #_^@+)^@)$#*!!@__ ass ways and her manipulations! Yes, she has a personality disorder, either Narssistic PD or Borderline PD. Either way, she is cleary mentally unstable. Notice that everytime she feels threatened, she either acts helpless: why you picking on me? Or, she will lash out in anger to put others down to make herself feel better. Gotta love her!

kim February 5, 2010 at 2:58 pm

Okay, Kari is just terrible. I do not like the fact that they brought her onto the show. She CLEARLY just wants another 15 mins.(of fame). She is not there for the right reasons. She brings a terrible vibe to the table. The cast is very humble and sincere so far. I hope she doesn’t mess it up.

And…Tom Sizemore. Bless his heart! Being a recovering addict myself, and having been to two rehabs. It is a strictly enforced rule to not allow ANY connection what so ever with family, friends or anyone outside of the rehab while you are detoxing. Why is that different for Tom? I think Dr. Drew did this man a huge injustice by jeopardizing his recovery. Bringing Monroe in was a huge mistake. This is a man’s life. Sometimes we have to put good t.v. aside and think about this man’s life, and what could go wrong letting him speak to this woman while in such a vulnerable situation such as detoxing from a plethora of drugs.

Kim February 5, 2010 at 3:06 pm

Kari CLEARLY just wants another 15 mins. (of fame). DON’T GIVE IT TO HER!! She’s ruining the vibe of sincere, humble recovery here.
Tom Sizemore, bless his heart. Okay, I am a recovering addict. I have been to two rehabs, and know many many other people who have been to many many other rehabs. YOU DO NOT LET A KNOWN DRUG USER INTO SEE A PATIENT PERIOD. It is a huge injustice to Tom to ask this woman in while he is detoxing and jonesing for drugs. Just the looks of her makes him want to use. What are they thinking?? This man’s life is at stake here. It made me want to cry for him.

Watching that episode, with Tom and Monroe in particular, literally made me sick to my stomach. This guy is an incredible actor and it saddens the heck out of me to see how he has sunk so low. I agree with some of the folks below in wondering why Dr. Drew would even put these two together??? BIG MISTAKE…just asking for trouble. I’m not sure why, but I am rooting for Tom to drop Monroe and get his life back together. I know he has so many strikes against him and maybe it is wishful thinking, but I can’t help but hope he somehow picks himself up and gets off drugs. I still think he’s got alot of acting left to do and Hollywood would forgive him. One can hope…I wish him the best. Oh…and on next season, they might want to think about getting Leif Garrett on there..from what I’ve read, he needs some major help.

Sharon February 5, 2010 at 6:23 pm

I really hope Tom S. gets the help needed and dumps that girl (unless she gets sober as well). She is nothing but trouble, like when she kissed him, I would put money on it that she put dope in his mouth. Dr. Drew was right I think they scam together. When I got sober I had to change my playmates and my playgrounds. Fifteen years later, trust me it works.

Kari Anne, does have the chance to get sober. But you can’t try to just save her at the risk of hurting everybody elses sobriety. She is a NASTY, UGLY person. Maybe one day she will understand that and grow up. She causes alot of strife among everybody.

marg February 5, 2010 at 6:37 pm

Why oh why did Dr. Drew put Tom and Monroe together??!! It’s all about PEOPLE, PLACES and THINGS.

JLWatson February 5, 2010 at 6:45 pm

why did you bring back that snot Carrie Ann? I am not watching this show anymore because of her. Someone needs to treat her like the kid she is an give her a good beating. send her home so I can watch the show again. Sometime, Dr.D you can’t save them. She is one. You know this.

Aislinn February 5, 2010 at 6:58 pm

Heidi, I think that there is something very special about you. I like who you are, among other things I like how honest and real you are. I hope that you get through this, and make it out the other end with your head held high. I know why you like your birds so much, I used to have a @#+)@@^)^%_&_%+` atil, I loved him a lot, but having a relationship with a bird is very different from other animals. We’re all pulling for you.

It would be a miracle if one of them stayed sober when they get back to the real world. i bet on Mackenzie Phillips will stay sober. I have been sober for 8 months and the longest sobriety i had was 14 months. so i know how hard it is. GOD BLESS ALL YOU ADDICTS OUT THERE!!!!

Greg February 5, 2010 at 10:56 pm

Kari Ann Peniche is a piece of trash. Enjoy your 15 minutes and remember that this town has a long memory.

Angela February 6, 2010 at 12:03 am

Mackenzie, I can’t even imagine the road you are currently on or the roller coaster that has been your life. But i do know that I see hope and determination in your eyes and I want you to remember that someone sees that in you when you look in the mirror. Good luck, love your LIFE and God Bless.

jennifer February 6, 2010 at 3:12 am

Dr.Drew what where you thinking? Monroe has trouble written all over her. She had no place in a treatment facility and no place near tom when he is so fragile. And dont get me started on that spoiled brat Kari ann.

jennifer February 6, 2010 at 3:19 am

as a parent i get the greatest urge to take miss kari ann pissy pants right over my knee for a good spanking. and not the good kind either. little miss princess needs a reality check. her attitude is not only annoying its like nails on a chalk board.

Aileen Carroll February 6, 2010 at 5:39 am

I went to rehab 5 years ago to get help for multiple issues…i really respect Dr. Drew, however I don’t respect the amount of days they are doing their “work” 21 days is only a start. And in my opinion it’s more for PR gains (i am a PR major) than truly wanting to get help.

Kari Ann is by far the worst person I have ever seen on tv and am so glad I haven’t encountered someone so terrible. I hope that she learns that the way she acts is horrible. I normally don’t watch tv and care so much but watching her i realized that there are sick, horrible, disgusting, #^&!`#+~(&~$$)`!` y people that exist out there. Everyone cared about her but she is such a brat that it’s hard for people to help a #^&!`#+~(&~$$)`!` that isn’t willing to get help.

Nancy T February 6, 2010 at 9:02 am

Tom is never going to get sober as long as he has a partner that is still using. I was living in Beverly Hills and I suffered with my partner/Husband for 13 years of using Herion & other substances. But we both went to treatment- and sober living for an additional 60 days and we have managed to stay sober through the 12 step program for over 15 years now. On your episode 5 when Tom looked at his girlfriend… I know that look. All it takes is one look from your using partner and you know…time to go.
My husband and I were in and out of 4 rehabs for 5 years before we finally surrendered and got the program. My story has a happy ending. It is not looking to good for Tom. It is a shame because I use to see him in meetings back when I first go sober.
I will pray for Tom.

patmoan February 6, 2010 at 11:11 am

I went into this cycle, prepared not to like heidi fleiss. wasnt I suprised to find how educated and articulate she really is. she is the daughter of a beverly hills doctor and it shows. please get rid of carrie ann, she is a horrible horrible person and should be in a padded cell. she ruins the rehab for everyone. also like how dennis rodman has been flying under the radar!!!!! I see bridgitte neilsen is going to call dennis out next week. also love bridgitte. how is shifty doing?

Chris February 7, 2010 at 1:58 am

Wow after watching episode 3 my opinion of Tom Sizemore went down the tube. Heidi is right, he is a scumbag. The way he whispered to his girlfriend “He wants you to come into rehab.” was pretty shadey. What a lowlife. And I used to respect him so much as an actor.

Oh and that blonde hairs country has been? Wow what a `_#&^+)%@_#!$^#“ she is. Watch the episode again and you’ll see what I mean.

JonTx February 7, 2010 at 2:23 am

Well, I still maintain “Dr. Drew” is incredibly mediocre as a practicing physician…. Does anyone find it unusual that if you do a license search on the official CA. Board of Medical Examiners Website Dr. Drew IS NOT LISTED?????
Keri Anne should be involuntarily committed to a really good psychiatric facility for an extended stay. It’s clear to anyone but good old dr. drew she has something more going on than sex or drug addiction… by the way, looked her up- she has absolutely nothing in her background except for a beauty pageant that would qualify her as a “celebrity”… wtf? Oh, I guess if you include her sex video that might help…NOT! Total skank, total waste of a bed that someone else could really benefit from. I mean, someone who WANTS TO GET BETTER, clearly that’s not what Keri Anne is there for.
Tom is definitely getting sub-standard care, as they all are. It is not a safe environment, I’m surprised investigators from the state are not trying to shut this farce down….

MyMarie February 7, 2010 at 12:48 pm

I give this show a lot of credit, even though I thought of it as a pure reality B-list endeavor, I find that there is more to it than one would think. I do believe however, that bringing back Kari Ann was purely a ratings ploy. There is no way these people will benefit from having her in the house. I think the producers thought that the tension was going to be between Heidi and Tom and when that didn’t happen, they brought back the biggest “bad seed”, Kari Ann.
Good luck to Heidi and MacKenzie, they really seem like genuine people, who are trying to succeed. It is painful watching Tom Sizemore, I’m not sure there is much that can be done for him.
My condolences to Heidi on the loss of her brother.

cynthia February 7, 2010 at 1:32 pm

Hello Mr. Sizemore I have just finished watching Celebrity Rehab and I just saw you on the show. I have to tell you I have never ever done this before but i want to tell you just how handsome of a man you are and the first time I saw you was in Heat. WOW what an actor. I did not want to see you this way on Celeb Rehab but that was you. I dont know how important you are to soo many people and especially God. It is only through Gods mercy that you are here on this earth playing a huge role to mentor kids who are wanting to act. With the talent God gave you why are you allowing this evil to enter your mind. I will pray for you and I know God will answer if you want to be saved.

Dot Perez February 7, 2010 at 1:48 pm

Dr. Drew,
This message is to Tom. A devoted Fan.
You are such a gifted person, please try to climb from under this heavy rock. You have no idea how much people miss and love you. You have so much to give and share. We miss you so much. Please save yourself. It is so so sad to watch you lose your life. We want you back. You are so loved. I watched this episode of Rehab. I cried with so much sorrow, you are such a loss to so many. I hope this memo gets to you and makes some diference with your decision to save yourself.
We miss you and pray for you to make the decision to come back to us.
With respect and prayers for you and your family.

There is something about Tom Sizemore that I love. I have loved him for years. Maybe because he looks like my brother that passed away. My brother was a heroin addict. In Toms eyes you see the boy he was. You see the love he has in him. You also see a fear, a pain, of not being able to stop. It just kills me to see what drugs do to a person. I dont know him personaly. But I cant be wrong. Some has to tell him that they forgive him and he has to forgive himself. So that he can go on.
Im not a praying person but God please help him. He needs your help. Amen

Bethany February 7, 2010 at 4:17 pm

I am very concerned about Dr. Drew’s rehab tactics, particularly toward Tom. He should not have any physical contact with Monroe during the course of treatment. He !!$%%*!*~+@+@@^ ociates Monroe with drugs and sex. I am surprised that his staff even let her enter the building considering she hid drugs for Tom during her last late night visit.

Moreover, she definately slipped him some dope when she planted several kisses on him. This was obvious as his personality and attitude toward rehab almost changed within a quick few minutes. Another clear sign was the profuse sweating he began to exhibit.

Did anyone actually believe Monroe when she claimed to “flush” the drugs?? Since she is still an active addict, she would NEVER have done this. Any addict, sober or not, knows that she would clearly not throw away the drugs, since she still wants them. If Dr. Drew can not recognize these signs, perhaps he should find another type of job. (not trying to be mean, just honest)

If Dr. Drew could somehow manage to detain Tom’s departure, he should definately attempt to enroll Monroe in treatment, BUT she should NOT, under ANY circumstances, be able to have any physical contact with Tom.

I wish Tom the best of luck and hope that he chooses to remain in treatment. He has been blessed with the talent to act, to possess attractive physical features, and a charming personality. I will be praying for him, for it would be a shame to lose Tom to drugs. GOOD LUCK TOM!!

terri February 7, 2010 at 8:01 pm

I have appreciated Dr. Drew since I first became aware of his work almost 15 years ago and my heart goes out to each person trying to detox. Tom Sizemore has been such a favorite of mine and I wish I could just wrap my arms around him and protect him from the pain that he is working through. Heidi is an amazingly intelligent woman and I believe that she was singled out by society to be punished for being successful in business..not for being a madam. I believe that we, as women, often trade sex for some type of male support but most women refuse to admit that fact in their own lives.Mackenzie has written a wonderful book and she is certainly a survivor. My prayers are with all at PRC.

DJ February 7, 2010 at 9:18 pm

Celebrity Rehab Season 3. It may sound silly, but it doesn’t feel like the typical attention mongering ‘reality tv’ that’s corrosive and mindless.

Whatever the reasons these individuals have chosen to appear on this show and allow their stories to be broadcast all over the world is inspiring. I’m thankful to be able to see the healing process.

I’m so impressed with Mackenzie Phillips. I hope if she’s reading this blog, I think you’re amazingly strong and hope and pray that you can stay sober for the rest of your life. As I watched you today and saw your honesty I really started looking up to you. You kind of became my hero. Even if you fall again.. the things you have had to deal with all of your life.. I can’t imagine anyone doing any different. Keep going girl.

You’re all in rehab for the right reasons. I pray the broken and sad parts in your hearts would be mended through this process so that you can become the wonderful, creative and specially made humans that you were meant to be.

lisaida February 8, 2010 at 1:25 am

I was surprised and dismayed to see that staff dumped Kari Ann’s crystal down the toilet! No health institution dumps meds down the toilet into our water system anymore!! Yikes.

lil sista February 8, 2010 at 2:26 am

They need to edit Ms. Peniche right off the show!! She doesnt deserve to be there getting help and support that someone else would love to get. Shes one of those people who needs to hit rock bottom and learn the valuable lessons that the “journey” teaches. She is a good candidate for a show called COPS,”tweaker gone wild”;where she gets tazed 3 or 4 times, hog tied and thrown in jail….

itsamystery February 8, 2010 at 11:20 am

I want to thank Dr. Drew for his work. I started watching Celebrity Rehab and then the MTV show for Teen Moms (since I was a successful teen mom years ago and finished college with a Master’s and so did my kids).
Somehow I escaped the drug issues (except for one of my children who we were able to get on track).

The work must be intense for Dr. Drew and for the staff (which I am glad they are chosen for past problems with the drugs–who better to understand).

We all have addictions to one thing or another–some more benign than others, but they need help. Teen moms need help. Please be considerate with your comments (no name calling, etc.) because I think the celebrities might read them, and nobody is immune to criticism when fragile.

Again, thanks Dr. Drew for being so honest, professional (you’ve had chances to hit on some of these women as they flirt with you and seem to resist with professional integrity). I know a lot of people in treatment ‘fall in love’ with their ‘savior’ and I’m sure Dr. Drew gets lots of that.
I’ve gone to psychologists when younger to deal with phobias stemming from being an ‘unwed mother’ during a time when it was aking to killing someone. Most of those times I was ‘hit on’ by the therapist, exacerbating my problems.

I hope and pray for all of these celebrities (even the bratty and problem ones) because they could die. I especially related to MacKenzie Phillips story (not because I was ever abused or molested–because I was not), but because I understand what it’s like to be scrutinized and ostracized for a secret that you’ve decided to reveal to the world. It’s the secrets that mess us ourselves and our families, and I’m all for getting them out in the open–even if it means cutting away people who don’t support us. Read Mia Farrow’s book, What Falls Away.

I look forward to this show and I’m sure it’s helping thousands of people avoid drugs or get help.

TEYA February 8, 2010 at 1:57 pm

1ST TOM NEEDS 2 GET RID OF MS.DOPEY.SO HE CAN THEN FOCUS ON DOING WHATS RIGHT FOR HIMSELF,THIS GUY WAS 1 OF MY MAIN ACTORS.NOW KARI ANN NEEDS 2 BE SLAPPED.SHE DOES ALL THAT 4 ATTN.IF SHE WANTS HELP SHE SHOULD LEARN 2 HAVE A LIL RESPECT.NOT ONLY 4 OTHERS BUT 4 HERSELF.I WOULD BEAT HER LIL AZZ TALKIN 2 ME LIKE THAT (SNOOTY B*TCH). ATLEAST THESE PEOPLE R REACHING OUT 4 HELP,THAT COUNTS!!!

prettyinpink February 8, 2010 at 2:00 pm

who on the production team thought it would be a good idea to bring MOLE face back. The ugly chick from sex rehab. WTF. She doesn’t care about getting off drugs, she just needs some TV attention. Will not watch the show with mole face on.

pam February 8, 2010 at 5:18 pm

Just a quick note of thanks to you guys for this show. I’ve just discovered it, and seeing you even helps me maintain my sobriety. I’ve been most inspired by the spirit, courage and honesty of MacKenzie and Heidi. You are funny, articulate, intelligent! … without the drugs & alcohol. Hope to see more of you two once you’ve graduated rehab. PLEEZ!
God Bless!

Leelou February 9, 2010 at 12:30 am

Ah yes, yet again everyone has to sit through KA little girl temper tantrums. Did this show need the ratings or something to bring this little self important b*tch back? I really hate to say this about someone with a drug problem but I really dont care what happens to her. She is disgusting vile human being. I dont think she has a image problem, I really believe she THINKS she is the hottest person out there. Every time she gets into it with another woman, she attacks their looks and calls them jealous. She is not ugly but damn girl, you are NOT that goodlooking. Get over yourself and trying humbling yourself. You might get more friends that way and people might care and be there for you. Act like a spoiled little princess and you will be alone. God and here I thought this season would be good. I hope she gets kicked off again and we can go back to see real addicts work through real problems…

creed February 9, 2010 at 1:32 pm

Let Tom go if he wants to go. I think his girlfriend, Monroe, is the devil. She has that look about her. She does not care about Tom just about what she can get.

Mary Beth February 9, 2010 at 1:49 pm

McKenzie is so authentic. I wish her well in her journey and recovery. God bless you, McKenzie. I am praying for you.

patmoan February 9, 2010 at 2:37 pm

carrie ann must go. she has also used racial slurs several times, calling staff, white +~$!@^~^*$$!`+#*^ she is half mexican, I guess that is why she throws racial insults around to others. she called selma and the other black lady “ghetto types”, why does carrie ann get to do whatever she pleases????

margaret February 9, 2010 at 3:24 pm

There is an old adage, “where ever you go, there you
are” Kari ann will simply be an unmedicated personality
disorder after 21 days. Sadly, we may not be able to tell the difference.

pat moan February 9, 2010 at 4:37 pm

carrie ann has called several people “ugly” she made fun of kendra jade’s lips. I dont find her the least bit attractive, she has fish lips of her own. she calls mike from alice in chains a fat has been wannabe, she cant even be called a has been, she is a never was!!!!!!!

sandra February 9, 2010 at 6:34 pm

Jo February 9, 2010 at 7:03 pm

Hey Tom, We’re pulling for you. Watching “Black Hawk Down”…you’ve got the right stuff!!! Just do it. Your fans from the Key West.

Nicholle Sizemore February 9, 2010 at 7:54 pm

You whats kind of creepy and sad all at the same time? My husbands dad is Tom’s cousin. His dad was 44 when he died much to young do to his addiction. They way Tom looked during this last show was very close to what my husband father looked like before he passed away. It is very sad watching. They look so much alike eerie. I wonder if Tom knows of his passing or how close he really could be to death himself.

SHERI February 10, 2010 at 10:49 am

Tom Sizemore: I am so sad for this guy, that he feels he has to lower himself to the level of “Monroe”, an obvious prostitute of drugs, and whatever else is out there. Tom is better than that, he deserves better, but, that is what this is all about, how drugs can make you do things you would not normally do. He was once a great actor, I think he can get there again, just look at Robert Downey Jr.

Mendy McCready: This women needs to wake up and smell the bacon. “The seizures are because of my beatings”? Whatever. The seizures are from alcohol abuse. Period. The damage to her brain, per the neurologist, was due to alcohol abuse, in the FRONTAL LOBE, yet she repeatedly told others that the bangs she took to the BACK OF HER HEAD, where the result of the seizures. Am I the only one that got that?

Kari Ann: I agree with most, this girl has Mental Stability issues, and is a ticking time bomb. She is one that I would watch to go “postal”.

Dennis Rodman: Face it dude, you have an alcohol problem. The parties he throws are for laying down the chicks and getting loaded. He has an awful personality and treats women like they are a piece of meat.

I have been in some of these same circles, and I can tell you that there is a lot that is not disclosed on VH1. Why? I don’t know. The only way these folks are going to get help, and stay straight, is to come clean, all the way. I can only hope for their sakes, that they do. Good Luck!

Suzi Q February 10, 2010 at 2:10 pm

Dr. Drew –

Who’s lawyers put the most pressure on you? VH1′s or Kari Ann’s? We all know that those who appear sign a contract to complete treatment and get paid for doing so. The princess did’nt complete her first rehab stint and probably did’nt get paid. So now, she is back. Even if she does complete the treatment, she will go back to her way of life and blame someone else.

Drew, you have a heart of gold and the patience of a saint. But we all know the little princess will bring everyone down. Toss her before it’s too late.

Bridget & Bill, Philadelphia, PA February 10, 2010 at 4:18 pm

Heidi,

You go, Girl!

You are a wonderful human being to care for all those sweet birdies. You are doing all you can to bring some human contact/love back into your life. You are not only beautiful but quite brilliant. George Bernard Shaw once said, “too long a sacrifice makes a stone of the heart . . . ” Even with all you have been through, your heart and soul are golden.

The world needs more people like you, Heidi.

With best wishes and love,
B. & B.

We root for you 100%!

Bridget & Bill, Philadelphia, PA February 10, 2010 at 4:30 pm

Heidi,

You go, Girl!

You are a wonderful human being to take such compassionate care of all your birdies.

You are not only beautiful but brilliant. Not many of us meager humans could ever claim such a full life. You are simply beginning a new chapter and it will be equally as wonderful as the best of your past!

A wonderful Irish writer once wrote, “too long a sacrifice makes a stone of the heart . . . .” Even with all you have been through, your heart and soul are golden!

We need you in this world, Heidi, so please hang in there. . .

All the best and all the love,
B. & B.
