|

VH1′s Save The Music Foundation and DoSomething.org have partnered together in an attempt to raise the awareness of music education in our schools. As part of this cause, we have put together a Battle Of The Bands contest. Over 850 bands from all over the country have already entered to win a the $5,000 grand prize and the opportunity to perform live at the legendary Apollo Theater. The deadline for entering this contest is next Friday, April 16th — that’s one week from today! — so get your friends together this weekend and be sure to enter the contest.

Above, watch the video submitted by one of this year’s contest entrants, Hover! These rockers might not be old enough to have their driver’s licenses, but these Owego (NY) Apalachin Middle School students have been writing their own blend of catchy pop songs since the sixth grade. And below, please follow along and check out a sampling of some of the other bands that have already submitted their videos.

Here’s Bayside, California’s own Artists On Board!

Hailing from Lincoln, Kansas, check out Falcon Punch:

And last, but most certainly not least, enjoy Caramel (IN) High School‘s cover of Paramore’s “The Only Exception.”

Oh, and just a reminder, both VH1 and DoSomething.org are still gearing up for this year’s inaugural Do Something Awards, which are set to air live from Los Angeles on July 27, 2010. More details on this exciting ceremony to follow!
