Fantasia, Dr. Drew, Eva Longoria, Hip Hop Honors And Many More Among VH1′s 44 New Series For 2010

VH1′s pace is set to prove unrelenting this year with the launch of a slew of new shows, events, Behind the Music entries and Rock Docs. Info on it all — from the second seasons of Fantasia for Real and Scream Queens to new series starring Dr. Drew and Eva Longoria to specials featuring Christina Aguilera and 50 Cent to new VH1 Divas and Hip Hop Honors concerts — can be found in the press release below.

VH1 will produce a record 44 original series in 2010 to further build on the network’s connection to young adults and their hunger for programming centered around music, celebrity and real life stories.

Year-to-date, VH1 has launched 18 series – eight of those projects are brand new original franchises featuring such new faces to the channel as Jessica Simpson, Grammy Award-nominated Fantasia Barrino, and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas from TLC, one of the biggest-selling groups of all time, and Grammy Award-winning artist Brandy. Later in the year, VH1 will introduce more new faces such as NFL player Chad Ocho Cinco as well as shows demonstrating additional formats including VH1 Dad Camp and The OCD Project. VH1 also continues to develop the previously announced scripted movie from Academy Award-nominated and Grammy and Golden Globe winner Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment.

VH1’s programming build-out reflects the network’s commitment to its adult audience and what they want to see now on the network. To understand the “core of its core” audience, the network did an extensive study focusing on what VH1 calls “Gen Mix” – the young adults who make up the tail-end of Generation X and the very beginning of Gen Y or the Millennials, covering the ages between 25 and 34.

“They told us that they want to connect even more with our characters, our artists and our celebrities – but in a more genuine way. They still enjoy VH1’s signature sense of fun and irreverence, but they also want more storylines that reflect the issues and challenges they are experiencing in their own lives,” said Tom Calderone, President, VH1.

“As a result, we’re taking our signature storytelling strengths and amplifying them through three distinct areas: music, celebrities and real life stories,” said Jeff Olde, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Production, VH1. “And we’re expanding the ways we tell a story so that we have more ways to reflect on what’s happening in the music and pop culture that our viewers love.”

Music remains one of VH1’s core offerings, making up 40 percent of the total day schedule beginning in September. The iconic “VH1 Divas” music event returns in December as a salute to American troops in a multi-platinum artist tribute being produced with the USO. VH1 Hip Hop Honors returns in June to honor the genre’s artists from the Southern states. Behind The Music is back with brand new installments spotlighting Academy, Grammy®, and Golden Globe Award winners and nominees. Christina Aguilera gets the ultimate star treatment with a full night devoted to her with the premieres of her own VH1 Storytellers and Behind The Music. The Emmy Award-winning Rock Doc series delivers new installments featuring 50 Cent and Rush. The Friday Night Alright concert series continues with top artists from around the world. In September, Mark McGrath begins hosting the music game show Don’t Forget The Lyrics in a daily strip series.

VH1 Digital continues to offer extensive video including full episodes, exclusive show extras and music performances and original artist interviews on, VH1 Mobile and will also continue to regularly host interactive online viewing parties tied to select series’ premieres and finales where viewers can interact with other fans and show cast members online, via mobile and through Twitter. recently welcomed Brandy, Ray J, Ken Paves, CaCee Cobb, and the cast from TRANSform Me to live-viewing parties to answer fan questions directly. vh1 is going down the drain in my opinion. The more shows they come out with the less i watch the channel. THese show ideas suck. What ever happened to date traders?

  2. Elle says:

All these new shows stink worse than what my baby left in her diaper this morning! VH1 OBVIOUSLY could care less about what their loyal viewing audience thinks or else they would pay attention the comments made regarding the cancellation of ILM3 and 4. I guess this is my last post on the blog since I won’t be viewing VH1 anymore. To think, I chose this station over all the major networks. I preferred to catch Family Guy, the Simpsons, House, Heroes, the Office, South Park, and several other shows on fancast and watch VH1 instead. Now, I will no longer watch this channel because they obviously don’t care what we the viewers think.

  3. Tony says:

    VH1 is dead.

  4. steph says:

    VH1 = DOA

40 New ideas and you still couldn’t get it right VH1

You should have kept Rock Of Love, Real Chance, I Love Money and the rest around

This way when your new shows bomb, you’d still have something we could enjoy

  6. WTF says:

So is the overall goal here to lower ratings or to replace VH1′s core audience with a new demographic? lmfao

  7. golden girls says:

So Vh1 went from Edgy, Progressive Programming

to Nap hour at Boca Raton programming.

44 New Shows of Wasted footage and lo$$ in ad revenue.

  8. Booby Jones says:

I don’t know one person who watched the TO Show. In fact all I heard about is how bad the ratings were. Why is that show coming back but not I Love Money.

  9. Dexter says:

No I Love Money? No Challenge Shows? Then I’m not watching any of this crap. I hope VH1 is ready to see its ratings continue to drop ;)

I for one missed the days of flavor of love and new york, vh1 bring back i love money and charm school. We like to see funny drama and stereotypical characters becuase its entertaining. IDK im just glad mtv hasnt cancelled the real world/road rules challenge shows.

o and these new shows do kinda suck except for the the fantasia show.

  17. Reality Crack says:

ALL of you are FAIL. Aren’t you sick of reality shows PERIOD? And The B*TCHING you people are doing about the cancellations are so disgusting. Someone DIED c’mon!

  18. Chuck says:

WTF? these shows are all lame and boring.. i hope VH1 opens its eyes soon and realizes their ratings heavily relied on the likes “Of Love” Cast Members..

this is BS.. can we AT LEAST get a show about New York or something? doesn’t have to be a dating show but dang c’mon how are you gonna just drop the QUEEN OF VH1 like that? she brought in the ratings.

  19. R says:

Could all the whingers please go away…

  20. Cher says:

VH1: PLEASE bring back I Love Money. That is by far your best show!!

  21. CORY says:

Vh1, I work for TV and I will agree with these posts below that the new shows being released are not worthy. I hate to say that the ratings for vh1 will begin to decrease rapidly in the next year. For your sake, Mark Cronin and Cris Abrego, I hope you turn this around and bring back I Love Money. Film another season this summer, trust me it will be worth it. Or I’m sure Daisy would do another show, even Charm school. You producers need to give the audience what they expect from you guys, otherwise you might as well just cancel VH1 except for the music.

  22. LL says:

Vh1 used to be my go-to station whenever I was bored – there was always something good on. Now there is not even one program on there I enjoy. It’s a shame. RIP, Vh1.

  23. vh1access says:

Please join the I Love Money Campaign!!/pages/We-want-I-Love-Money-5-6-Campaign/103994442974933?ref=sgm

this is just ridiculous no I love money? are you serious? I would figure that VH1 would had plans to do a re-tape of I Love Money 3 or 4 or at least film 2 new seasons of the show which is why I am doing this campaign but you guys are just going to to end it just because of what one dude did?

For almost a year us fans have have been excited when we first heard there will be am I Love Money 3 and 4 and now its not going to air because of what happened. You just going to end the show? I am very disappointed.

I know that I Love Money can’t go on forever but ending it like that is really messed up. VH1 PLEASE continue with I Love Money to make it up after what happened. Don’t you guys want high ratings? I don’t get you guys your just going to end a high rated show like that?

  24. Vh1access says:

VH1 you really need to start listening to your loyal fans and give them what they REALLY want.

Showing that you don’t care just gives your network a bad image.

  25. VH1ROCKCKS!!!!!!! says:

All this hating stuff-I wuuuuuuuv vh1!!!!!!I think all the new show ideas are grrrrrrreat!!!!!!!I’m excited about it!!!!!go vh1!!!!!!!!!!

  26. D says:

What happened to the Surreal Life? weren’t they gonna do one with “Macho Man” Randy Savage, or was that a dream? I’ve been getting my dreams and real life mixed up a lot lately.

  27. Farrar says:

I agree with other posts. There is not one dating show!! That is what I loved best about VH1. This line up looks really boring.

  28. Catherine says:

I love Dr. Drew. Think he does a great deal of good in the world, but I’m wondering – Isn’t he spreading himself a little thin? He goes from one thing to another. I don’t really know his schedule but I hope he gets in enough time with family and friends and has staff to help him.

  29. vh1wtf says:

Whatever happened to music based programming for generation X, wasn’t that what used to be on this network? I mostly watch VH1 Classic these days. Got no interest in all this reality show crap making skanky, untalented and dumb people into celebrities (really very very minor luminaries)and z-list celebs who cannot get their shiz together. VH1 now officially sucks just like MTV. Where is the music???

  30. sami says:

wow…first off its pathetic that i read every single comment and not one of them is looking forward to any of these shows. i dont know what kind of money vh1 thinks its gonna make when NO ONE will watch any of it. its pathetic i like competition shows their entertaining and funny. who really gives a damn about T.O. or especially ocho cinko?? you kidding me out of all football players the two most hated.and a bunch of dead beat no one cares music artists or nobodies who just got money those shows are boring no excitement what so ever i hope this plummits so bad. sorry vh1 you suck

  31. Tia says:

I’m looking forward to seeing… Behind the Music and Fantasia for Real 2 – Q4 2010. I bet her family moved back in with her.

  32. Samm says:

There’s actually a Please join the I Love Money Campaign! on facebook!??! What a bunch of losers!

  33. Laurance says:

“VH1’s programming build-out reflects the network’s commitment to its adult audience and what they want to see now on the network.”

Is this what “adults” want to see? It’s childish and stupid. I’ve noticed that much of what passes for “adult” entertainment is at a five-year-old level.

  34. Shawn says:

If you all dont like it DONT WATCH IT duhhhhh

  35. Kate says:

Wow, I used to watch VH1 religiously….sounds like 2010 is going to be the year I stop, not one of these shows sound good! Try again VH1 I guess you really don’t understand us “Gen Mix”ers.

  36. brandi says:

Wow, that looks so lame. There isn’t a single show I’d watch and I used to tune in to at least 3 shows a week, 5-6 if there’s lots of celebreality.

  37. Sam says:

If they would have put girls from Flavor of Love or Rock of Love in You’re Cut Off, then I would watch it. I am not at all interested in watching any of these new shows. I personally don’t care for the Price of Beauty, Fantasia For Real, or Brandy and Ray J type of shows. I just think they’re boring, and I don’t want to see more of them.

I can understand they want to air more classy shows, but classy gets dull after a while. Dropping the “of love” related shows all together is completely alienating a large portion of their audience. I’m one of the many fans who are still wanting to see I Love Money, and I wish they would just air season 4. Other than that the only VH1 show I’m tuning in for this year is Scream Queens 2.

  38. stacey says:

What about another “pick-up artist” with Mystery??? He is so freakin hot and has great moves!!!

  39. Olivv says:

Vh1 is so cool you know, ignoring what EVERYONE has to say and all. GOD i really don’t get it, stop trying to make everyone fall in love with vh1 again by making up bull-shi* shows. Just bring back the vh1 everyone loved (ex. Rock of Love, I Love Money, Celebreality, Daisy of Love, Charm school, and more importantly… I LOVE NEW YORK) PLEASE Im seriously begging!!!!!! And wtf is that survery thing about? Obviously it was a mistake. MAybe you still have those like 1 million losers that are “the core of ur core audience” but the other like 4 or 5 million are gone. What’s more important? Get it right! We ALL want celebreality back, not this B.S.

  40. VH1sucksballs says:

These shows friggin suck, and no one cares about Fantasia or stupid weddings, I miss Vh1 when it had I Love Money and all the Dating shows…
Now I turn this crap off when things like Dr. Drew come on. Seriously Dr. Drew is so friggin annoying, Vh1 only plays his boring $*!%^+$+`$(_&*) shows now!
Give The Entertainer another show! That was one of the best shows.

  41. numba1 says:

Bring I love Money back. That was the one and only show that keep Vh1 alive when everyone got sick of the dating shows and it had the most ratings. Why throw away the one show that was the most successful?

  42. Kelly says:

Why doesn’t “Tough Love” fit into this line-up? I love that series! Where’s “Celebrity Rehab”? Darnit! No “Sober House”? Really?! Darnit!

  43. Jules says:

None of the new shows interest me. My friends and I want to see Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab and Sober House return.

  44. whatever says:

VH1 is making a huge mistake by re-structuring their programs. Your target demo is not accurate, and Gen X’ers don’t want to watch boring videos or “real” reality. We all love trashy reality shows, scripted or not. I watched Tool Academy, it was pure entertainment. No one watches music videos anymore, that’s so 80′s. All I can say is you better keep Tough Love, Celeb Rehab and Sober House or I’m boycotting VH1 and heading over to MTV, E! or other stations.

  45. John says:

Many of you are overreacting. I’ve been watching this channel since I was in my mid-teens (I’m 27 now), and I’ve seen this channel go through many different forms, from shows like “Pop-Up Video” and “Behind The Music” to the “I Love…” programs to the Celebreality shows that have been the channel’s bread and butter these past few years.

We all need to grow up. I enjoy the “…Love” programs as much as anyone else, but there eventually comes a time to move past the tomfoolery. There’s a time for everything…And I think the time of shows like the “…Love” programs has passed.

I need to address this comment as well:

whatever said “No one watches music videos anymore, that’s so 80’s.”.

Platoons of YouTube users, including many who were born IN the 80s, would definitely disagree with you.

  46. DudeWutTheHeck says:

The shows that im exited about are the T.O. show, Fantasia season 2, and scream queens. I do want them to bring back shows like flavor of love. etc. It was trashy but thats wut vh1 is expected of. They do good trashy shows that make us feel better. Especialy Real chance of love it was greate. They need season 3 of the show. It was great. Bring back dating shows. Oh and charm school too!!!

  47. krayzieprincess says:

Ok VH1 I don’t know why But I LOVE MONEY was the best reality show EVER! And we understand and are sad for the man who is no longer with us, Megan even had a change of heart. Please just bring it back for us do you not care because you make so much other money now???

  48. krayzieprincess says:
