100 Greatest Artists Panel Talks Michael Jackson

As if Michael Jackson hasn’t been celebrated enough (his birthday yesterday was treated like a minor national holiday — why don’t I have off today?!?), the video above contains some more kind words for the King of Pop. A teaser for next week’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time countdown on VH1, the clip above features the likes of Chamillionaire, Jay Sean, Andrew WK, Temper Trap, and producer Christopher “Tricky” Stewart waxing nostalgic on MJ. Last week, we announced that Michael will place in the Top 5 of our 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. You can find out his exact position (and what it all means!) by watching the countdown, which begins next week at 10/9c on VH1.

Check out more preview clips of the countdown at its video page.

Michael Jackson Discography: Off The Wall Chart Position:#3, US Sales: 8,000,000 World Sales: 20,000,000. Thriller Chart Position:#1, US Sales: 29,000,000 World Sales: 110,000,000 Bad Chart Position: Debut@#1, US Sales: 8,000,000 World Sales: 30,000,000 Dangerous Chart Position: Debut@#1, US Sales: 7,000,000 World Sales: 32,000,000 History Chart Position: Debut@#1, US Sales: 7,000,000 World Sales: 20,000,000. First Album ever to have a single Debut @ #1 (You Are Not Alone) Invincible Chart Position: Debut@#1, US Sales: 2,000,000 World Sales: 13,000,000. FOR THOSE BLOGGERS WHO SAID MICHAEL JACKSON DID NOT DO WELL AFTER THRILLER, HERE IS THE FIGURES, THEY ARE THE FACTS, AND THIS SHOWS WHO WAS REALLY THE BEST AT WHAT HE DOES. IT DON’T MATTER TO ME IF YOU DON’T LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON, THAT’S YOUR OWN PERSONAL OPINION, BUT WHEN YOU SAY THAT MICHAEL JACKSON WAS NOT SIGNIFIGANT TO POP MUSIC, JUST KNOW HE OPENED THE DOOR FOR BLACK ARTIST ON MTV, AND HE CHANGED THE MUSIC VIDEO FORMAT, THE MUSIC VIDEO WAS DYING OUT UNTIL MJ CHANGED THE GAME, IF YOU DON’T KNOW THIS, IT MEANS THAT YOU PROBABLY WAS NOT BORN YET. I LIVED AT THE TIME OF MICHAELMANIA, AND WHEN THRILLER WAS BIG, SO I KNOW OF WHAT I SPEAK. JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T LIKE AN ARTIST, IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU DIMINISH HIS OR HER CONTRIBUTION TO POP MUSIC.

Michael Jackson is and will always be the greatest artist of all time and those who wouldn’t admit this when he was alive are still living in denial!

I thought the list was wisely chosen except for the fact that the Eagles were surprisingly left off for some strange reason. They were a phenomenal band who I would say belonged somehwere around the 50-60 mark.

That count down was BULL!..I do not agree at all!.. Michael Jackson should have been no.1

The Beatles made no contribution to dance..Michael made to both dance and music! If it were not for MJ music videos would not have been what they are today!

And John Legend is a “sell out”!

who are these LARRY’S voting on this pannel?? ELVIS should never be lower then #2…if it wasn’t of E the world might not ever gotten the chance to hear some of the great black artist of are time or at least a lot longer down the road…Elvis is the reason we have bands like the BEATTLES….and what gives with BUDDDY HOLLY or JERRY LEE LEWIS not on this list….there shouldn’t even be a vote of these guys…the pannel should be ok ELVIS, CHUCH BERRY, BUDDY and JERRY LEE are in no matter what…f-in SADE, BEE GEES, TIMBERLAKE and not HOLLY OR JERRY LEE….get some people who no about there rock history….ALSO WHERE ARE THE SEX PISTOLS…to this day there had been a album like NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS which is one of the most importain rock albums of all time…also in not even a fan, but no ROD STEWART or NEAL DIAMOND…will i don’t mind Neal.

The panel that voted Elvis Presley so low on this so called “100 Greatest Artist” must have been high on something! This list means nothing and is based on opinion and not fact! If you check record sales, gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards, top ten hits, top 40 hits, top 100 hits and weeks at number one then Elvis is clearly the greatest of all time which has been known as fact and not opinion for more than 33 years. If there had been no Elvis then there would have surely been no Beatles! Michael Jackson is second only to Elvis as a solo artist giant! There are many wonderful and talented artist on this “list” and many of them are some of my favorites. The Beatles are not among them. They were much better as solo artists than as a group except for Ringo. They didn’t need him. The greatest artists of all time are Elvis, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Elton John, The Beatles, Bing Crosby, The Rolling Stones and James Brown just to name a few with Elvis being the greatest. VH1, please don’t do any more “greatest” lists because the ones you all do aren’t accurate and are appalling to say the least!

Earth Wind and Fire is the greatest band of all times. Beatles and these other “rock and roll” bands are extremely overrated just like Madonna.

ralph September 27, 2010 at 5:47 pm

Michael should have been ranked 1 because of the influence and popularity. And Elvis not high up there. These panel experts are smoking crack!!

Grant September 27, 2010 at 5:50 pm

They should have gone into more detail with this show. Cmon!! MJ should have been #1 hands down. Please!! I loss a lot of respect for VH1 and its producers, after these so called rankings.

While it is not surprising that Micheal was picked this high, Im quite surprised that your professional panel did njot have Elvis as #1. This man changed the way music will forever be looked at, It is unfortunate that his music, which spanned three decades was during a time when not everyone listned to, or even owned a radio or television set. Still a pretty decent list, although it did seem a bit baised.

ummmmmm who the heck compiled this list…..beyonce above so many other artist who’ve been around so much longer then she has …put out so much more and are still hitting it !! i turned it off after i saw mariah and ll cool j in the 90′s… went online to see final… soooo disappointed!!!!

don November 4, 2010 at 8:48 pm

Most people know MJ should have been #1. Vh1 can have their stupid show, but MJ is the best.

drew November 4, 2010 at 8:51 pm

Michael Jackson is #1. No matter what Vh1 says Michael is #1.

doug calhoun November 9, 2010 at 1:35 pm

No doubt in my mind that the artist list was erroneous. Michael Jackson is the greatest of all time. You should spend more time on your artist list.

bo nelson November 9, 2010 at 10:38 pm
