Video Premiere: Hanson, “Give A Little”

It’s been almost fourteen years since “MMMBop” exploded into our national consciousness, an event that turned the three brothers who make up Hanson into teen idols overnight. Unlike so many other artists who experienced worldwide fame at an age before they were properly equipped to deal with it, Issac, Taylor and Zac never went off the deep end and landed themselves in jail, rehab or worse. Instead, the brothers kept cranking out their patented blend of blues-tinged pop/soul music (seven albums worth!) and playing to legions of fans across the country.

Last summer, Hanson released their eighth studio album, Shout It Out. And now, the latest single off that LP, “Give A Little,” has got itself a shiny, brand new and primary color packed video that matches the energetic, get up and dance spirit of the song. Bonus points for the sax solo, too, guys; between this song and the woodwind-meets-electronica sounds on the new Destroyer LP, Kaputt, maybe 2011 will be the year that the once ubiquitous sound of an alto sax regains its stature as a “cool” instrument for pop-leaning bands to work into their repertoire.

This album is an absolute gem and a real throwback to a time when music wanted to make you move and have a little fun. I grow more impressed with these guys at every listen and I like anybody who can go tell the major labels who crank out the homogenized crap the music industry spits out to “go screw, we are doing it our way” all the credit in the world.
