Sneak Peek: Linkin Park Transforms in “Iridescent”

The video for “Iridescent,” the fourth single from Linkin Park‘s A Thousand Suns and lead single from Transformers: Dark of the Moon: The Album, premieres on air on VH1 this Thursday, June 2, at 8pm, but you’ll be able to see the whole video online eight hours early, and you can watch an exclusive sneak peek above.

“Iridescent” is the fifteenth Linkin Park video directed by turntablist Joe Hahn, and the second (after 2009’s “New Divide”) to prominently feature Transformers imagery. That video used animation to link film clips and performance footage thematically as well as visually, but judging from this preview, “Iridescent” is considerably more ambitious, featuring a number of the upcoming film’s villainous bots flying around the band members performing, a skeletal outline of Optimus Prime superimposed over lead singer Chester Bennington, and possibly the first look at the film’s megavillain Unicron in his planet form:

We’re not so sure about this third Transformers film (perhaps because we preferred the Unicron of 1986’s animated Transformers: The Movie, when he was voiced by the late Orson Welles, still a powerhouse after over a decade of Paul Masson wine commercials), but this new Linkin Park video, at least, promises to be great!
