Beyoncé’s Producer Trashes Kelly Rowland’s “Motivation” on Twitter

|

Jeff Bhasker has worked with a slew of talented artists, penning and producing songs for Drake’s Thank Me Later, Alicia Keys’ The Element of Freedom, Jay-z’s Blueprint III, and Kanye’s 808s and Heartbreaks and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. With legit hits under his belt, it should be no surprise that his discerning ear also has some strong opinions. But sometimes, opinions are like a-holes, are they not?

Yesterday, when the producer who most recently worked on Beyoncé’s 4 album (“I Care,” “Party,” and “Rather Die Young”) took to Twitter tocriticize former Destiny’s Child vocalist Kelly Rowland’s current hit “Motivation,” you could almost hear the record player come to a screeching stop. Confused as to why a song “with the weakest beat and melody of all time” could catapult Kelly to #1 on the Urban chart, Bhasker wound up justifying the feat by crediting at the song’s featured verse from rapper Lil Wayne.

As if that weren’t harsh enough, Bhasker followed up with this zinger!

Considering her vocal chops and the song’s tangible sex appeal, that two-tweet critique is certainly a bit harsh, especially after the singer delivered a flawless performanceon the BET Awards stage last month. And besides, it’s no secret that less is often more for mainstream listeners, a reality that is perhaps too much to accept for his somewhat elitest taste.

What’s so interesting about this incident is thatmany could argue that us Americans are actually late to the party with rewarding Rowland’s solo talents. While 2002′s “Dilemma” was #1 here andin multiple countries across the world, Kelly’s starin the Statesfaded a bit over the past few years, as she played second fiddle to Beyoncé’s music industry chokehold. Overseas, however,Kelly’s career as a solo artist continues to flourish, and songs like “Commander,” and David Guetta-collaboration “When Loves Takes Over” puts her among the ranks of international A-list superstars. It goes without saying that we hope Bhaskergate doesn’t cause a rift between Beyoncé and Kelly, and since he lamelyattributes the song’s success to Wayne,we might even liketo see a very warranted apology!

Beyonce’s ‘4′ Producer Jeff Bhasker Trashes Kelly Rowland’s “Motivation” [Idolator]

  1. ihearttoronto says:

    well he didn’t lie!! XD

  2. ABC says:

Why does the title refers to him a “Beyonce’s producer”? Is this because you somehow want to link Beyonce into whatever opinion Jeff has about Kelly’s song?

  3. 123 go says:

hes right this song was completely tasteless. it shows how people today are just nasty and have to decency. I want old school music back. At least they had decent tasteful music. Kelly Rowland will never ever have half the success of beyonce if she puts out records like this.

  4. Swiss says:

He is a hater! Why he just can congratulate her success instead of criticizing her lyrics.

  5. Sharon says:

Yes he did lie. If it was a horrible song it wouldn’t be number one. Now would it. His wording and timing is messy. He’s just mad that the song that he produced for Beyonce isn’t number one.

  6. Lacey Seidman says:

    Hey ABC!
While Jeff has definitely worked with other artists, his most recent gig was working with Beyonce, hence the title of the post. Also mentioned that in the copy… and I think that’s why people are so alarmed at his comments. Sorry for the confusion!

  7. MS.GARTH says:

HE IS A COMPLETE HATER!!! IT’S KELLY TIME!!! MOVE OUT THE WAY. BEYONCE HAS SHINED ENOUGH!!!

  8. Nee says:

Why take his time to say something so darn hateful? Like what was the purpose of someone of his status saying that? #hater

  9. Nicole Heyward says:

I love the song the beat and definitely the lyrics….. As far as beyonce…There is such a thing as being overly exposed. I believe I speak for many others that Beyonce need to take a breather for a min, go have a baby or something. There comes a time in every performers career when you have to say LOOK im going to take a LIL vacation and let the fans miss me a lil bit then come back and BLOW us away. There is No mistaking that MRS. B has an awsome voice but the material she is putting out Now vs what she put out in the beginning of her solo career has changed drastically. Shes trying to go POP but sweetheart if its not Broke Dont Fix It. Travel back and find the B that we enjoyed and not question “WTF” was she thinking. Kelly girl do your thing and stay MOTIVATED and give your MOTIVATION! LOL….. Now that deserves a STANDING OVATION!

  10. Kendra says:

why is he being a hater…like come on now…give someone props for once..n make it worst they are like sisters. So he just needs to back off of kelly and let her be happy..HE’S JUST BITTER…GOODNESS MAN! CHUPZ! then people wants to know why it have so many hate on other artist. This is a great example!!!! Sit back and relax and listen to the #1 song MOTIVATION…HAHAHAHA

  11. mycka says:

Motivation is a hott song for adults…those songs that jeff did for beyonce i hated..glad i did not buy her album__.the beat was nice but the songs sucked. why is he mad at Kelly Rowland he should be trying to produce for her now..
Jeff you a a## you should’ve asked Kelly to sing on your tracks… but you hate instead…wooooww

  12. adrian b. says:

I kind of agree with the producer, I really don’t think the song is all that great and don’t see the mass appeal as alot of others

  13. MZB says:

KELLY KEEP DOING YOUR THING GIRL AND DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE HATERS. BEYONC’E AND YOURSELF ARE TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE, WITH DIFFERENT STYLES SO THERE IS NO COMPARISON, AND NEVER LET IT BE ABOUT COMPETITION. JUST DO YOU, BOTH OF YOU ARE GREAT NO NEED TO PUT EITHER ONE OF YOU DOWN NO TWO PEOPLE ARE ALIKE.

  14. thelimelight says:

There are plenty of shabby songs that make it to number one without a problem. All you need is a catchy phrase and a radio station to play it on the air. Many of those shabby songs are by A-list artist… It is just an opinion…

He might be a little green with envy right now, but he’ll get over it. During the mean time, CDs will continue to sell with or without his opinion. He just needs to create a silly song like Rebecca Black’s Friday and get an A-list artist to sing it. Ha-Ha!

  15. Ter says:

Okay, Yes, he was wrong for bashing Kelly’s obviously number one hit song. I mean the song is a great achievement for Kelly. I believe this album will help her greatly in the U.S. But don’t hate on Beyoncé because she’s what the world wants in an international mega star. She’s beautiful, talented, knows what she wants and goes for it. As for her album now being different from when she started…. ummm…. YES… That”s SUPPOSE to happen. She’s suppose to grow as an artist. Her music is suppose to change. And the music on her last album was more “POP”, as you say, than this one. She DID take a year off, and came back with something different. A mixture of everything. Which I and many others seem to agree is refreshing. A time for her to take a long term break and have kids will come when it comes, as for now, don’t hate on her because she’s everything a celebrity wants to be and none of her haters will ever be. She’s proved herself, now show respect. Her and Kelly are like sister, if this even got back to them they probably laughed there’s ass’ off. Lol

  16. FIRST OF ALL YALL SUM HATERS…. IT IS WAT IT IS…KELLY U KEEP DOING YA THANG..YOU WORKED OVER TIME ON DA BET AWARDS…KEEP UP DA GUD WORK.. IVE ONLY HAD THA CHANGE TO MEET YOU ONCE IN PERSON @CHEDDERS IN HOUSTON,TX. FROM DAT DAY IN 2003……YOU BECUM DA QUEEN TO ME..YOU ARE TRULY SWEET IN & OUT ..AND MY FAM & I LOVE US SUM KELLY… GOD BLESS YA GIRL ..THEYB ANIT SEEN KELLY YET,LET EM KNO U JUST GETING STRARTED IT…..

  17. Listen, you guy’s need to let others have ther time in this industry, Beyonce has been in the spot light too much now, I love her music, but she, like others are like getting over exposured. Kelly rowland, who hasn’t had as much success a Beyonce, so back up, and let her have her reign and stop being so negative…. Now-a-days, alot of these rappers are jumping on everything ,and to me they are over exposed, and getting tired of hearing the same artists on everybody (featured or remix’s) . records….Thant’s just my opinion…When you hear the same artist so much you don’t want to hear them any more and won’t buy any more of their music…they are worn out……..
