We’ve got terrible news to pass along to you this morning. TMZ is reporting that Jani Lane, ex-frontman of the glam metal band Warrant, was found dead in a Los Angeles area hotel last night at the age of 47. A cause of death has yet to be determined.
Lane, along with his band, rose to fame in the late eighties when the glam (some would say “hair”) metal scene of the Sunset Strip exploded in popularity. Warrant’s debut album, Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich, was released by Columbia Records and was somewhat of an unexpected hit. The LP, powered by the smash power ballad “Heaven” (video below), cracked the Billboard Top Ten and positioned the band for even bigger things with the release of 1990′s Cherry Pie. The title track of that record, thanks in large part to its innuendo-laden lyrics, is remembered as one of the raunchier songs and videos of the era, and launched star (and future wife of Lane’s) Bobbi Brown into pin-up status.
By most accounts, the last few years have been difficult for Lane. After struggling with alcohol issues, he appeared on VH1′s Celebrity Fit Club 2 in 2005 and seemed to get his life back on track. However, he fell back into old habits and served nearly four months in jail in 2010 after receiving his second DUI. His body was found in a hotel room of the Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills, California last night.

R.I.P Jani Lane.another great rocker gone too soon!!! you will be missed
I hope and pray that you can now find peace. God be with Bobbie, and all of your kids. Your music spoke to me in so many ways. On the way tt the hospital the night my father died, Heaven came on the radio. In some ways I feel like, ” Some things you do really make me mad I must confess”!!! I wish you could have beat this addiction! You will always be loved and thought of!! Rest In Peace!
My condolences to his family and especially his little girl. I too was lucky to meet Jani and the band in toronto, ont on their first tour and seen them several times in concert during the years
the reason our rock stars are dying off at such a young age, is due to the fact they can’t hold their alcohol. I have lost family member, friends, and so on because of alcohol. I can’t stand it when I hear of some rock star who has been found dead because of booze or drugs.
Jani…….I have loved you from the day we first met…..I will miss you..until we meet in Heaven….
Rock on!!! Sue
When I was told that someone from Warrant was found died. My response was it better not be Jani Lane. When I found out it was Jani I screamed NO!!!!!!!!!! The world will miss an outstanding frontman of the 80′s. I can’t believe it but on the other hand I can. You will be missed. Hope you are up in heaven playing with all the greats of rock and roll stars that have passed on before you.
Dear Jani,
When you get to Heaven, please tell my husband I love him.
I met the love of my life at a Warrant concert. You and the rest of the band will always have a special place in my heart.
Thank you for the memories. You won’t be forgotten.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
I met Jani at a Motley Crue concert back in the early 90′s. He had no idea who I was and didn’t have to even look at me but he got up, brushed through a crowd of people, and came over and talked to me for about 5 minutes of which I will never ever forget. What a guy! No goodbye, only see you soon.
He Will Dearling Missed. Great Song’s,Good Looking, Great Voice. He Is So Young???? May God Bless And His Family. He Is In Heaven Now. OOOOOOXXXXXXOOO Love Denise
I am so sad Jani Lane is gone. He was awesome and I met him several times and even kissed him once a bar in downtown Dallas after a concert. You will be miss Jani!!!!!
I think they should have a Jani Lane day on VH1!!!!!
I still cannot believe that Jani is gone. I sang Down Boys last night at a karaoke show in his honour and was doing just fine, rocking out until the very end when i said, “That was for you, Jani.”. I broke down and cried…again. I felt that he was right along side me. I’ll always miss him. I loved him so much! Rest sweet Jani…you’ve earned & needed it.
You will be missed!
R.I.P. Jani Lane . you will be missed. I am such a big fan of Warrant and the 80′s Hair Band Music. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family in this difficult time from hanover, pa
The second tragedy to my generation this year. Mike Starr, Jani Lane. My prayers go out to Jani’s friends and family and all who are affected by his death. My wish is to somehow get the message out that our past and present behavior can do irreversible damage to our bodies. Even if we find our way out of addiction the damage is already done.
i have liked WARRENT since i was a teenager. it made me very sad to hear the sad, sad, sad news that JANIE died. I WANT TO SEND MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO JANIES FAMILEY AND FRIENDS. I LOVE HIS MUSIC SO MUCH. HE MADE MY TEENAGE YEARS WONDERFUL, WITH HIS SMILE AND ALL OF WARRENTS WONDERFUL MUSIC. I LOVE YOU JANIE AND I WILL MISS YOU VERY MUCH. GOD BLESS YOU. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
my gut tells me he committed suicide (Jani Lane) its sad when a rock star throws there life away. the disease of addiction is something you can recover from but you have to want it. i see many of these rockstars and i think there fantasy of fame and glory overshadows the real issue.. people use drugs to escape the pain of life. sometimes the best thing is to find those who share your plight and help eachother..#ijs
Hes not gone; He is @ Uncle Tomms Cabin !!!!!
R.I.P. Jani your will always be in our hearts and your music will fill our souls forever… sing to those angels with your beautiful voice, you will never be forgotten you are what made Warrant and will always be the one we look too… Bless your family and most of all Bless your kids.
Jani was a hell of a songwriter. Pretty much any song from DRFSR or Cherry Pie was great, although Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Mr. Rainmaker, Blind Faith, Bed of Roses, Down Boys, and I Saw Red, etc. were my favorites. The truly great ones always go too soon. RIP brah. The music world was better from having you a part of it.
Jani Lane’s death is such a shock & a major blow to us all. He was an amazing talent who gave ouststanding music that made us laugh or made us cry. I love every song Warrant has came out with, but Heaven is my all time favorite. I heard him say in an interview once that he wished he had never written Cherry Pie,but I’m so glad he did because it is such a kick ass song. I will keep him in my heart forever & the memories he gave us will last a lifetime. R.I.P our beloved Jani Lane!
You will be miss so much. I have listened to your music since I was a teenager and to this day in 2011 I still love it. R. I. P. Jani Lane. My prayers will be with you.
I don’t believe it. Another rock n roller who I grew up listening to is dead. Jani Lane and Warrant came aroud the time of the hair bands and kicked some ass. They had some great songs. RIP Jani you are in “Heaven”
I’m so sad to hear that Jani Lane passed away. I will always remember him and his band Warrant. Their music and songs hold lots of memories for me as I’m sure it does for alot of people. My heart goes out to his family during this sad time. May we never forget this talented muscian who still had so much to give to the music industry.
Woke up to the song Heaven in my head. All day long been singing it.Can’t get it out of my head.Talent and tragedy seem to walk hand and hand.
Saw Warrant in 2000 and they put on a great show. Couldn’t believe it when i heard Jani Lane was found dead. Even my 10 year old daughter was sad,her favorite song is Heaven. RIP Jani you were great.
Someone gave the idea on Facebook earlier that we need a behind the music show featuring Jani Lane as there is plenty of material to compile for an episode. Since, like him or not(I do), he was one of the integral parts of the music scene in the genre and era, it would be a given that something could be done to make this happen. I’m looking forward to seeing an announcement that it has been completed soon! :)
How dare Eddie Trunk tell Jani he looked good. Jani Lane was obviously in very poor health. He was skin slapped on a skeleton. Why don’t people stop, look at the situation, and help? Jani was a wreck, and no one reached out to him. I was appalled that all the hosts acted like everything was fine. I just hope that Michael Sweet, a friend of Jani’s, said something, or maybe took an action to try to help his friend..
Hey, does anyone know what company made the leather motorcycle jacket Jani wore in the final episode of Celebrity Fit Club?
RIP Jani
Sad!!! I heard Uncle Tom’s Cabin on the radio the other day and I just cried!!! My soul just weeps for a true lyric!!!
