Gloria Govan is one of the most recognizable faces on Basketball Wives L.A. thanks to her dramatic stint on the first season of the original Basketball Wives. Always opinionated (but usually diplomatic), Gloria has agreed to recap this season of Basketball Wives L.A. for the VH1 Blog and we couldn’t be happier to have her input on everything that goes down in front of and behind the camera. This week, Gloria gives us a little primer on the life of a basketball wife.

My move to LA has so far been nothing but fun. After spending a year in Miami, it’s so nice to be home, close to my family and real friends.
Meeting new people is never easy. Jackie, Imani, Laura and I have a few years under our belt. Kimsha and I just spent a year together on the same team, but I’m still the only person she knows. Malaysia and Draya are definitely the “freshmen” on the team. these new girls are not getting off to a good start. Malaysia is hard to pinpoint. I understand defending where you come from, but it’s okay if someone has another opinion about it. Sitting at Pink Taco, if the conversation wasn’t about her and her jewelry line for kids, she completely shut off. I think at one point she even feel asleep. Lol. Tip for Malaysia: Rolling your eyes and turning up your lips isn’t going to get you very far with these girls.
Draya seemed sweet. After meeting her in acting class, I could tell she was new to both Hollywood and acting. But after taking a moment, I know I’ve heard her name tossed around and have seen some pictures of her with athletes and celebrities. So, I decided to confront her face to face. The last thing I need is to be responsible for bringing in a “groupie”‘ which would easily cause major drama within the clique. The fact that Draya flat out owned up to her past relationships not only took me off guard but also made me respect her a little bit.
Tanya tries to be the spiritual referee. If she ever took a moment to honestly answer a question instead of constantly beating around the bush, she might actually make this initiation process a little easier. Her “Yoda” or inspirational speaking isn’t getting her very far with the other women. Sometimes people just want you to lend them an ear, NOT get an earful.
Some of the women seem to be getting along, but there are clearly conflicts on the rise.
When I heard about the fight I was so upset. Matt and I were on our first family vacation in almost a year. The one time I’m gone, a fight breaks out. Jackie called me and said “Malaysia attacked Laura,” I immediately hung up the phone and and texted Malaysia.
Even though I don’t know exactly what happened, I can tell my sister’s pent up anger from her current situation with her ex is being taken out on the other women, she is not off to good start either. As grown women with small children, physical violence is never a solution. I think both Laura and Malaysia were in the wrong. Assumptions and short fuses are not a good combination.
You would think that we would all get along. Grown women who have so much in common. All of our husbands, fiancés, and exes are all in the same industry, our backgrounds aren’t that different and we are all ambitious about maintaining our individuality. But apparently we are far from being on the same page. The saying is “You never get a second chance at a first impression”. Seven woman, with seven different personalities. Heads are butting, feelings are going to get hurt, toes are going to stepped on and words are going to start fly.

Where is Royce’s blog from BBW Season 3 Reunion show? She writes the best blogs, this has me rolling my eyes and falling asleep like Malaysia.
This show has no basis. They make me feel like we only want negative television. I do not understand their concept. They arguing and fighting about trying to get to know each other. Everybody on Tanya, but they not giving a chance to know her. The drama built on Miami show, and it actually had substance. I do not understand these women. I want to see real wives and what their day to day activities are while their husbands are on that court. What do they do positive. And please tell me why Gloria’s sister is even on the show.
Jackie needs to get beat down for calling Gloria and lying, she knows damn well Laura started that fight! Also…..Why would Tanya help after the way they came off at her especially Jackie?

Gloria and Laura both are some husky punks. And I hope Malaysia stay away from them. And whoop they ass if they ever came at her side ways again.
In my opinion, this show has no substance– what is the purpose? I would love to see what they do– working on the job, running a business, parenting their children, cooking, planning a date with their man, volunteering for charity…
Common entertainment logic says that drama sells, but I think there would be a much larger, captive audience if the show had a purpose other than being drama-ful…maybe it’s just me!
Have any of these women picked up a history book? Remember, african americans were viewed as savages, less than human. And now we display ourselves on national T.V. as just that. Grown women physically fighting in a public restaurant. Shameful, embarassing, demoralizing. A discrace to the race.
This show is an embarrasement and total disgrace to ALL women – Period.
Jackie’s actions seem silly for a woman of her obvious age–lying and trying to stir up trouble is so juvenile. On the show, she claimed to be wary of newcomers because she had been betrayed in the past; but she seems like she might be the problem and none-too-trustworthy herself. Why do these women fall into that nasty “pack” mentality that makes them turn on each other and try to tear each other apart? You’d think they would use their money and experience to build businesses together or do charity together or something productive with the gifts they have been blessed to receive. Rich fools are still fools; and these women act like they are in junior high school, still fighting about who sits at the “cool table” in the cafeteria. Sad.

I hope those stupid grown azz women know that it is against the law to threaten,hit or cause bodily harm to any person. You can be arrest for doing so. Shaunie needs to make it clear to these women that , fighting will not be tolerated. That type behavior is pure trash.

I think right now the only real one is Draya. Not only is she keeping it real but she’s honest. And I don’t think any of these women know how to handle someone who isn’t brain dead.Instead of all you “LADIES” thinking she is a problem and these are the type of women that break up homes. Do realize that cheating is a two way street. So maybe you all need to keep a tighter lease on your men instead of only blaming the so called jump off. BTW please Gloria stop acting like you are so hard and perfect because you are sooo whack.
It is ironic that in chapter one you dislike Royce due to the fact that she was a dancer and around players and you considered her a groupy. On the other hand, your sister who was…? your sister and maybe because of this rub with some players ended up sleeping and not only sleeping but at the time with a married player what would she be consider less than a groupy because she really had no business to be around the players other than due to the fact that you brought her into the circle. Would this be any different? It is a matter of morals, values and character and off course she has all off those because she is your sister. .. Specially threaten someone when your sister was the one who had te audacsity to slap someone first. And not to mention all the fake ladies taking side of the aggressor first. I’ve watched the first two shows and I must say I’m so disappointed. I know that what you guys are doing makes for good TV kind of like watching animals in the zoo is entertaining. However, the way you guys judge and treat one another is so very hard to swallow. To call another Black woman worthless on national TV in a society that often views Black woman as worthless is unforgivable. I don’t care what mistakes that woman has made in her past NO ONE IS WORTHLESS!

I love miss Malaysia. She is the hottest chick on the show. Laura and Imani need to go on a serious starvation diet they are old and beat up in the body. Jackie is so insecure that she has to run around aver her man…get a grip. I love Jimsha and Laura I’m glad she didn’t jump in let tore up body Laura get jacked up. Did anyone else know that Shaunie produces this show ? Gloria is suppose to be the queen B and her sister is on it too? Another thing these women fail to realize is that they busy worrying about strippers/cheerleaders when there are other women out there who are not into the sport and don’t go near the games. These men know the wives/girlfriends are watching who’s on and off the field trying to be a groupie or a jump off. They better make like Linda Blair in the Exorcist and spin those heads in other directions, especially when they say they hanging out with the guys,team meeting, run some plays to get the feel of a new field. But watch the ones that give you a ring and keep putting off getting married and say,”It’s just a piece of paper, it can wait, we know we want to spend our life together.” If you got kids or expecting, that piece of paper means a hell of a lot. in the courts and I’m not talking about a basketball court. Time to put up or shut up!

I would like to say I feel like Tanya did not have to get involved in that fight between Malaysia and Laura, and I also so feel like the other ladies are giving Draya a hard time on the show so far they are looking down on her because of her pass she don’t have to prove anything to them.
I must say I was impressed with the way Laura handled the fight. She came back sensible and sane. The two women came together in peace and worked it out on camera, not fake like Tammy and ….what’s that chicks name that dates Ochio? This show is much healthier. Now the hater on the show, the fat blonde woman with the bad weave that’s hating on the little young stripper chick. I can’t stand her fat, hating old ass. The fat chicks on the show hate the young tight divas. Laura surprised the hell out of me with her come back. Impressive. She has way more class than her sister, indeed. I think this show is worth my time.
