The arrival of Labor Day Weekend marks the unofficial end of summer. With that, here are three things I never expected from the Summer of ’11:
1) “Party Rock Anthem” to be Summer Anthem of 2011
At the beginning of the summer there wasn’t a clear-cut favorite for the summertime jam of 2011, but I never expected LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” to dominate the mainstream airwaves like it did. Club hit? Yes. Pop radio hit? Never would’ve thunk it. Sing it together now kids: Everyday I’m shufflin’.
2) Detox to still be in Detox
Now, I didn’t expect Dr. Dre to release his “final” studio album, Detox, in the summer of ’11, but since he did promise a new album this year, and since he already released two singles from it, I expected at least a release date. I’ve waited 12 years, so what’s another few months/years?
3) Baby Beyoncé
Pregnancies happen all the time—sometimes expected, sometimes not. Beyoncé’s caught me by surprise, especially since I expected her to do a mammoth tour in support her recently released album, 4. Her hubby and father-to-be, Jay-Z, is also on the verge of hitting the road, supporting his recently released collaboration with Kanye West, Watch The Throne. Business can wait, because maybe this is a child of destiny?
