New York, NY, October 25, 2011 – Viacom Music Group, a unit of Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), today announced that international pop superstar and digital music pionner Robyn will serve as the headliner of O Music Awards 2, www.omusciawards.com, the live multiplatform event that celebrates the artists, innovators and fans impacting digital music culture. Robyn will wow the unsuspecting crowd with a number of performances, including songs from her hit album, Body Talk, from an undisclosed location in Los Angeles on October 31st beginning 11:30pm ET/ 8:30pm PT on OMusicAwards.com. In a true multiscreen taker, Robyn’s opening performance will be broadcast on MTV. The event will utilize Viacom Music Group’s multiple screens and made available across Viacom Music Group websites (MTV.com, VH1.com, CMT.com, LogoTV.com and MTVHive.com), as well as mobile.
In memoriam of Apple co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer Steve Jobs, O Music Awards 2 will feature a special musical tribute with The Flaming Lips performing an iconic song to pay homage to his immense contributions to digital music culture.
Since voting began on September 27, more than 12 million votes have been cast. Fans can continue to vote via the O Music Awards site, www.omusicawards.com. The fan that drives the most votes will appear in the live show.
Battling it out for the most nominations are artists that run the gamut from web sensations to pop royalty to an outspoken legend. Leading with two nominations each are Odd Future’s Tyler the Creator (Most Outrageous Tweet and Best Web Born Artist), Lady Gaga (Fan Army FTW and Must Follow Artist on Twitter), The Weeknd (Best Web-Born Artist and Too Much Ass for TV), Katy Perry (Best Lyrics Video and Best Artist with a Cameraphone), Justin Bieber (Fan Army FTW and Best Artist with a Cameraphone), Demi Lovato (Fan Army FTW and Best Artist with a Cameraphone), Sinead O’Connor (Oops! The O Music Awards site will be the digital main stage and the heart of all activity in the weeks leading up to the O Music Awards 2. April’s inaugural O Music Awards, which streamed live from Las Vegas’ iconic Fremont Street, garnered MTV’s second-biggest-live stream audience ever, and featured performances by Mumford & Sons, Foster the People, Lupe Fiasco, Matt & Kim, as well as a world record for the longest freestyle rap by Chiddy Bang’s Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege.
