Jackie Christie, First Lady Of The League?

In this week’s Basketball Wives L.A. episode, Jackie Christie is ousted from the girls’ trip to Hawaii and seeks solace in the arms of her husband Doug. While Doug comforts her, she declares that she’s the first lady of the [bleepin'] league, period. “I’ve been here, done that s—, sixteen, seventeen years, you little punks is new to this and I’m true to this. You all wanna be Jackie Christie,” she tells Doug. That’s a pretty bold statement, so when I was at the reunion recently, I asked Jackie to clarify what she meant, and I also asked a couple of the other women what they thought of this. Check out their answers below. I think Jackie’s answer is a thoughtful one, but it seems like the other women don’t necessarily agree with her self-appointed title.

Do you really think you’re the First Lady of basketball?

Jackie: I do. Honestly. And not that anybody else isn’t, it’s just that that’s how I felt at that time, meeting all the girls and what they were there for and me trying to mentor them and what I’ve done with Doug. I’ve paid my dues, I’ve taken hits from people all over the world not understanding us, and I definitely feel like because I paid those dues, what I represent for the NBA is family, structure, stability, and that’s the way I’m looking at it. Not as “Oh, I’m better than this person or that person.”

In this episode, Jackie claims she’s the first lady of the league. What did you think when you heard that?

Malaysia Pargo: That’s the first I ever heard of THAT. Was there a drawing or a little ballot or something that said there was a first lady of basketball? That’s weird. I don’t even think she believes that. Well, maybe she does. Honestly, I can’t really even speak on Jackie because she’s an interesting character and I wish her all the best, I think she should probably go seek some help for these delusions and I wish her the best.

Imani Showalter: I laughed so hard. At the end of the day, we all believe our own truths. Jackie is slightly delusional, and I’m sure she believes that. I’ll let her have it. She can have the crown.

Gloria Govan: I think that that comment is disrespectful to the real women of the NBA like Cookie Johnson and Juanita Jordan. Women whose men had been such a staple in the NBA and their wives have been around for years. Well before Doug. Don’t get me wrong, Doug was a great player. But for Jackie to refer to herself as the first lady is silly. She may be the first “crazy” lady. She definitely set the bar for overbearing wife.

Jackie is a disgrace to basketball wives la and should be booted off the show for good. The other females did good by booting her old two faced self off the island now she needs to be taught a lesson and be booted off the show. For a person to be that old and suppose to be a role model she is sure making herself look bad.

For once I actually agree with Gloria, Jackie referring to herself as the first lady of the league as if she’s on the same level as Cookie Johnson and Juanita Jordan is delusional!
