Joseline Backstage of the Love and Hip Hop Reuninon

If there was ever a cast member of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta that caught everyone’s attention with her no-holds barred attitude and distinctive vernacular, it was Joseline Hernandez. Joseline’s unintentional humor quickly elevated her to the status of becoming one of the fan favorite. Her one liners like, “He threw a drink at me and messed up my furrah that I got from Neiman’s,” was only a small dose of the vibrant personality Miss Joseline gave all season long. Of course she brought that same fearlessness in being her authentic self to the reunion. From the hater mask to saying she only wants Stevie for his beefcake and money, there is no filter with Joseline. We chatted with Joseline backstage of the reunion while she got her hair pressed and curled. And as per usual, she didn’t hold back.

I saw you in Trey Songz video that debuted yesterday. How was it working with Trey Songz, Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne?

Oh my gosh, I was excited to do the video. It came out of nowhere and I was like, “Let’s do it!” But I know Trey Songz from before when I used to work at the club. He was just great. It was fun for me, it was my first video I’ve ever done.

Do you have any singles out right now?

Yes, I have a single called “Bailar” and Stevie just put that out ’cause people kept asking, “Where’s the music, where’s the music, where’s the music?” not realizing it’s been eight months and I do have a lot of music, but he didn’t want to rush to put any music out of course, because we wanted to do the video and the music. I had meeting yesterday with Stevie and we’re doing two videos next week for two other singles that I have. Stevie doesn’t want to do an album right now, he just wants to do singles and I agree with that. I think it’s perfect.

So who are some of your dream collaborations?

Well, first I’m going to say it’s gotta be Stevie. I’ve been trying to tell him to hurry up and get his things together. I have this song out that I have someone else on the hook, but I don’t want the other person on the hook I want Stevie on the hook, ’cause it sounds great and that’s just what needs to go on the hook. I want to work with Rihanna, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, Kanye, Jay-Z, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Meek Millz. And I know that I have to work hard and for many years maybe before I can do a song with those people that I just named, but I know that it’s going to happen because of the way I work, my work ethic, my attitude, the things that I want to do. I sing and I rap in Spanish and I also sing and rap in English, a lot of people don’t know that, but I’ve been mastering my craft and it just gets better and better every day.

Speaking of your attitude and work ethic, you have such confidence on the show, just about how you look, who you are, your talent. Where do you get that from?

Well, you know I always have great confidence, but I think that a lot of my better confidence came from Stevie, ’cause you know I was all over the place.

You’re obviously still working with Stevie, what is this status of your relationship right now?

Stevie’s my friend, first and foremost. He’s my friend and he’s my manager and we work great together. I don’t know what’s going to happen with the personal lives that him and I had before. Right now we just working and you know we’re friends and trying to get past all the nonsense that we’ve been through. Stevie and I we are always going to be close and we are always going to work together and we aren’t going to give that up for anything.

So what about those engagement rumors?

The engagement rumors! You better watch the second season, homegirl!

You’ve said that you love Mimi. What is the status of you and Mimi’s relationship right now?

You know, Mimi’s Mimi. She’s going to always be there. She’s got to get used to me, that’s the problem. I’m cool with her, I ain’t got no beef with her. She got to stop being so mad and angry and get used to me, because she’s real mad and real angry. Let it go, you got to let it go.

As a woman do you understand why she would be mad though?

As a woman I definitely understand why she would be mad, but that’s why I do Stevie the way I do him. He’s going to do him. He don’t care about what nobody’s feeling. Stevie just want to get money and get paid, all the emotions got to go out the door. So she got to get stronger. But she can’t make herself better cause she so busy worrying about Stevie that she’s not growing and evolving. Everything is just Stevie, but what about what you doing? Because Stevie not worrying about you he got to do him.

So you really don’t care what he does as long as he —

No, I don’t care. Yes, I’m caring about what Stevie does he’s tied to me. No, he’s not going anywhere. I’m not going to get mad and get lines in my forehead like Mimi’s getting. I’m just going to handle my business and get to work.

Do you feel like you owe Stevie your loyalty because he, in your words, “Gave you this career”?

No. See the thing about Stevie, he and I are friends. I don’t feel like I owe him just anything, I feel like I owe him my life. No matter whether we fight, argue or are not together personally, that’s still my friend; and I respect my friends and if my friends did for me I’m going to do everything for them. I’m the same way [with] my girlfriends. I’ve always been a giving person. I gave my mom everything, I gave my brothers everything, I’ve been a giver all my life. I don’t have a problem with giving. Money to me is nothing. I’m not working for money right now, I’m working to be a legend, I’m working to be working to be able to take care of my mom and my nieces and my brothers. The money that I make right now I’m not working for that. I blow that money buying clothes, buying shoes, making sure I look good send my mom a few dollars and just make sure I take care of me. You know how they say managers spend a lot of money on their artists? Stevie ain’t spend a dollar on me because I would have my own. I’m just glad he gave me the opportunity where I could just make my own.

When you say things like “just get this money and make this money,” are you really joking since you said you’ve always had your own money? You said you use to drive Jaguars, Range Rovers and other nice cars that you bought yourself.

Yeah, I still do. It’s not about the money, that’s why I say the money is nothing. It’s the way he gave me [an opportunity] to make my own money. Because even when I was stripping, I was making my money, but it was like okay I’m taking my clothes off, guys are handing me money but what am I doing just getting naked. You know that’s not really worth it. Now I can go in the studio make what I want to make, make some beautiful music, I can go dance I can really perform and do what I want to do, and he allowed that to happen because nobody else gave me a chance but Stevie. That’s why I said I don’t care what Stevie and I have been through, the lies, the fights the arguments, the cheating, I don’t really care. People do that all day and all night. You got to get past that. He still my friend and he’s always gonna be my friend; and no matter what people got to understand this: Joseline Hernandez and Stevie J are always going to be friends. So we’re friends, we working, we just getting some money and making great music, getting some more Grammys and just be happy.

Tell me the truth. Did it feel good to hit him in therapy?

Oh, yes. Hell yeah! Girl, hell yeah! And if it wasn’t because of the person that I am now, where I’m at right now, if he did it again, I’d hit him again. But I’m not on that anymore, being upset and everything like that. You cannot control [what] somebody else is doing. You got to control yourself. You got to make sure you control your emotions and what you got going ’cause they don’t care. They’ll do them all day.

Now that you’ve seen the show is there anything you would have done differently?

Hell no. I’d do the show again in a second. I’ll do second, third season, fourth season. I’m there! I love the show. It’s fun, I learned a lot about myself, it’s made me famous of course.

You became one of the fan favorites, and that surprised a lot of people. You’re funny and personable, but on Twitter you do have some haters. Would you say that you have more haters or more fans?

I’ve got more fans than haters, and the haters are fans too, they just don’t know how to come and embrace me.

Do you have anything to say to your haters?

To my haters, I love you guys, keep hating on me, it’s helping me out, but at the end of the day I think you should stop hating on me and just embrace me ’cause I’m a nice person. I’m just here to work and entertain you guys, and get over it. I’m not going anywhere no time soon, I’m working.

I have to ask you about the infamous naked picture that you tweeted out. Why did you decide to tweet that naked picture of yourself on twitter?

At that time I was really stressed out. I was doing the show, I was trying to get my life together, I had a relationship with Stevie, so it was too much going on and that’s the only thing I needed was for someone to say I was a man. That s— drove me up the wall. I was like, hold up wait a minute; I’ve never had that happen to me. I was wrong for doing that. A lady doesn’t do that you know, but you got to live and learn so whatever it happened and it’s done. Everybody knows that I’m 100% f—ing woman and that what it is and we not going there no more, and whoever got something to say about it can kiss my a–s. I’m tired of entertaining that bulls— when they know damn well I’m a lady.

At the reunion you told me you were really depressed during that time and didn’t realize it because of the stress.

Yes! I was stressed. I’m looking at myself on TV and told Stevie all the time, “Damn I look a mess.” But I was so stressed out that I was just working without even realizing how I was looking, but I needed that because now I’m in a better place.

You definitely have an attention grabbing style that turns heads when you walk into a room. What are some of the designers you love and where do you get inspiration for your style?

I used to dress differently when I went to middle school, you know I always dressed differently. Everybody used to be like, “What? What you wearing?” But they loved it. My inspiration is Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, Louis, Escada. I like vintage clothes, anything vintage. I like shoes, Alexander McQueen, [Christian] Louboutin, Versace. I just like everything gaudy: Versace gold chains, Chanel, Louis Vuitton python purses. Throughout the show you see all my purses. I got a lot of nice shoes. I just like everything different. Anything and everything that’s different, I love it.

So what can we look forward to next from you, Joseline?

Well you can expect Joseline Hernandez to pop [as an] international superstar. You can expect a lot of music, a lot of great music–pop, rap, whatever you like, videos. You can expect just working, modeling just doing everything that I’ve always dreamed of. And what I dreamed of being all my life was an entertainer. I want to entertain you guys forever. I want to do radio stations, I want to do TV, I want to do movies, I want to do videos, I want to sing, I want to rap. I’m just going to entertain you guys. That’s what I’m doing right now.
