Dr. Drew Pinsky will be making the rounds this week to promote Rehab With Dr. Drew, premiering on Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT, and this morning he kicked the press tour off with a stop at The Today Show. He was joined by the mother of one of his new patients on the series, Denise Mariano, whose son Michael‘s heroin habit was up to 40 bags a day before he received Drew’s help.

In the clip above, Dr. Drew explains that the treatment process for “normal” people is no different than the methods he employs for celebrities. And while celebs are used to the spotlight, these non-famous patients were also okay with showing their recovery off to the world. As Mariano says, she wasn’t hesitant for her son to get help in a televised setting either. “I’m okay with it,” she says. “If he can save a life out there, I’m on board.”

“Addiction…is the medical problem of our time,” Dr. Drew explains, and pills are often the gateway drug (or the main drug of choice) for addicts. “Pills are the main way people get hurt today.” But with his help, this new cast on Rehab is in good hands. Tune in on Sunday night to meet them all.
