This season was a lot more focused on family, and you and Joe are taking your next steps towards getting divorced.
Yes, me and Joe, even though we’re divorced–well almost finished with the paper signing–we communicate well. When it comes to the kids especially we’re very good at communicating very well. He has his life, I have my life, and when it comes to the kids we’re great! So that’s all I’m concerned about.
Do you think it’s important to show that you can successfully co-parent with someone you’re not in a relationship with?
Of course, because I don’t want my kids to think that because they are with him they can get away with stuff. We’re on the same page when it comes to them and they know that. I think everyone should be like that so then your kids don’t get screwed up.
What do your kids think of the show?
I try so hard to not them watch it, because I know it was all bashing of Carla this season. They caught it, but I always tell them it’s TV. They’re always like, “Oh, Ma, you’re not talking to…?” and I’m like, “Oh we talk don’t listen to Renee, she’s crazy. Don’t mind her.” I actually stopped filming with my kids after a while this season because it just got so ugly the show. Why am I having my kids on a show where it just gets so ugly? I did things with my kids and they didn’t even air it, they aired nothing nice that I did.
It was interesting to see that you are really close with Joe’s father. Is that still the case?
Yeah! I go there all the time with my kids and have dinner with him or I hang out with his stepmom. [Joe] has a sister, who’s my sister-in-law and only 15, so we’re close still.
Does anyone think that you remaining close with his family is weird?
No, I don’t think so. My kids are always there so we all still get along thank God.
What’s next for you?
I have a healthy cook book coming out. It’s just lik a family cook book based on the way my father used to cook. My father is an excellent cook–his whole family is–and they always cooked Italian-style. I try to take over and cook differently.
How do you plan to set yourself apart with these ventures?
Everybody always comes out with a something, but my book is just about how I cook; my lifestyle of cooking. I’m always asked, “Oh my God you keep yourself nice and thin and healthy!” and this is the way I eat; this is what I do. Even with the wine club [Wines by Wives], wine has been around my family forever, so I’ve always been into wine. I love wine, I’ve drank the best wines, and I can pick out the best wines. I do things that I know and I’m not going to go into a field that I have no clue about.
