On the surface, Peter Gunz and Stevie J have a lot in common: the love triangles, the successful music careers, and of course the fact that they’re both on shows called Love & Hip Hop. Peter caught some flack early on in the season for his storyline mimicking Stevie’s a little too closely, leading some fans to compare the two men, and when we spoke to Peter recently, we wanted to see how he felt about the comparison. “Me and Stevie J are two completely different characters. He’s more on the funny character side while my situation is very real,” Peter told us. “No disrespect, it’s just a different pedigree of women and situation.” Read more about what Peter thinks of Stevie, who he stresses he is NOT trying to mimic, and with whom, he says, he is not trying to start a “reality war.”

What do you think of the Stevie J comparison people make with you?

It bothers me a little bit because they say I’m trying to be Stevie J. I understand the comparison – two women, he’s with the side chick, you know, it bothers me a little bit because I never watched Love & Hip Hop Atlanta but I knew immediately that my story line was along the lines of his because I had producers and everyone around me saying ‘Oh, we’ve got another Stevie J-Joseline-Mimi thing.” But no, me and Stevie J are two completely different characters. He’s more on the funny character side while my situation is very real and it’s just a different pedigree of people. Sorry, no disrespect, it’s just a different pedigree of women and situation. I think that’s why I catch so much heat and Stevie gets away with it. He was hated for a little while but then beloved because it’s almost like, funny and he’s a character, he has the faces and the pregnancy test in his back pocket. This situation is serious and Tara doesn’t seem like a person who would tolerate nothing like that, she’s extremely intelligent, master’s degree, well-versed. Amina: beautiful, extremely talented. Why are these two beautiful women taking this from this old one hit wonder?

Have you met Stevie?

Once or twice. I don’t know him like that. I’m sure, judging by what people tell me, Benzino and Stevie J saying stuff like “I see old boy in New York trying to be like us,” but I don’t pay that no mind, I’m not about to have a reality war. I know who I am, know what I mean? And I know I’m definitely not trying to mimic Stevie J.
