Bikini fashion show! No, it’s not the name of a cheesy 80s movie, it’s the field challenge our guys had to undertake this week and man, oh man was it AWK-ward! Of course this outfit never ceases to surprise, so even though three of ‘em hit on the same girl, hyperactive Simeon was the only one who could close the deal and get her number. The rest failed miserably. Simeon was the week’s big winner and SHOCK of all shocks, Brian was the dude sent home.

The boys get grabby and slobbery in the latest episode of The Pick Up Artist. That’s what happens when a professional sexologist lets them get frisky with her in the name of research. Unfortunately this sets an unrealistic precedent: while some women will let you grope them in the dark for 90 seconds, others won’t even give out their number even after some polite conversation about meerkats. Todd finds that out the hard way this week and ultimately, he’s sent home.
Last week in the Pick Up Artist, Karl beat Kevin by an inch and hung tight. “I can’t be in the final two again,” he says at that start of Sunday’s show, “Coming that close to elimination has really lit a fire under my ass.”Must have been a small fire; Karl couldn’t step up his game and he got the boot after a weak showing in the field. The week couldn’t have been better for Greg, though. He won the reward challenge, the field test and a compliment of the highest order from one of his lady friends. . .
Kevin may not have had a chance to learn all of Mystery‘s lessons, but he’s taken the art of the pickup to another level since losing the last medallion to Karl last Sunday night on The Pick Up Artist. When we got in touch with him after his recent move to L.A., we caught him in mid-conversation with none other than Matador. The guy is a serious macking machine these days. As much as he seems to enjoy the game lately, Kevin tells us that the real reason he got into this is to find that special someone. Aww…

So were you just hanging out with Matador?
Yeah, we were just hanging out over at the studio, dealing with post-show logistics.
Were you getting a lesson from him, extra advice that you didn’t get on the show?
After the show…we’re not famous by any means but we do get recognized in public, so indirectly all the contestants are associated with Mystery’s company, The Venusian Arts, because we’re his students. And just to protect his image and everything, he’s good about talking to you about people to watch out for and how to handle the press. We also got a lesson on working on our day-game in the field.
We barely got to know Alex, The Pickup Artist’s first casualty, but we all remember his Kanye glasses and gold (er, copper) chain. Even though Mystery thought Alex had minimal potential as a master of macking, Alex believed in the maestro’s teachings and still worked on his game. In a post-elimination chat, we got Alex to open up about what he learned from his mentor, his disappointing makeover, and what happened to that chain he trashed…

So you were in L.A. for the premiere of The Pickup Artist, was it good to be reunited with those guys?
Yeah, it was really great, I got to see everyone that I hadn’t seen since filming. We all email each other all the time; I don’t know how we bonded so quickly.
Friends under duress?
Did you have any idea that you’d be kicked off so soon and that first experience in the club would actually be an elimination challenge?
This week, it was all about our young Love Jedis’ quest for knowledge. The guys get their first lesson from Mystery about opening sets and negging. They also learn that age ain’t nothin’ but a number, and sometimes you have to woo a lady even if they remind you of your Bubbe. All that, plus Brian wins over Mystery and Co., with his smooth moves!
Last season on The Pickup Artist, International Man named Mystery turned a gaggle of lovable but lady-challenged boys into set-opening men who could bounce with the girl of their choice. It warmed our cockles to see eight underdogs all have a chance at love, not just with the ladies, but also by learning to love themselves. And as Ms. Whitney once said, that’s the greatest love of all. The winner of last season, Kosmo, has traveled the world as one of Mystery’s wingmen, teaching other down-on-their-lady-luck men how a pluck of the eyebrows can make all the difference.
