All year long the Broadcast Film Critics Association is on the case, scrutinizing the movies that are released each week. They recommend the jewels, advise against the junk, and keep audiences informed on which actors and actresses are hitting highs or lows.
Even better, each year they wrap up the annum’s artistry with the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, broadcast on VH1 the last two years running. That tradition is continuing: all the films from 2009 will be voted on and ranked by the BFCA; on January 15, 2010, the results will be revealed at the 15th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, which airs live on our channel.
Since its inception in 1995, the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards has been a star-studded bellwether event of the movie awards season. The BFCA consistently picks nominees and winners that go on to garner more Academy Award nominations and wins than any other of the movie awards shows. Of the 20 actors and actresses nominated for Oscars this year, 19 were first Critics’ Choice Awards nominees.
The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards is the first televised movie award show of the year. With its notable history of picking the most deserving nominees and winners, it provides television viewers with their first opportunity to see all the top awards season contenders in one place. Nominations for the 15th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards will be announced on Monday, December 14, 2009.
“Critics Choice Movie Awards viewers last year witnessed a truly spectacular Hollywood event where A-list stars from the film world gathered at this intimate yet high-energy event thrown by our nation’s leading film critics. We’re already working with our wonderful partners at the BFCA on giving VH1 viewers an even bigger show on January 15, 2010 — and we can’t wait,” says Tom Calderone, President, VH1.
“The stars have always come out for our show, and they surely will be there in abundance again this year,” adds BFCA President Joey Berlin. “What makes the Awards extra exciting is the way VH1 transforms our gala evening into a memorable television event. I’m confident the 15th Critics’ Choice Movie Awards show will be the best ever.”
It was celeb-filled event last year. It will be the same again in 2010. Do yourself a favor and see plenty of movies through December. (Don’t miss Johnny Depp in Public Enemies – trailer above.) We’ll need you to have plenty of opinions come January 15
