If you pay attention to country music, you already know Sugarland, the platinum duo that’s part of the lineup of VH1 Divas Salute The Troops, which airs Dec. 5 at 9/8c. Or maybe you’ve just heard about them for the first time when singer Jennifer Nettles made her way onto worst-dressed lists for performing in a tutu at the CMA Awards.
To be fair, Jennifer also made best-dressed lists for her red carpet outfit to the same event — not to mention Sugarland took home the award for Vocal Duo of the Year. Still, Jennifer and her partner Kristian Bush have fully redeemed their fashion cred by stopping by our offices and running through their outfits, head to toe. This country act has style. Just watch.
You might already know VH1’s latest You Oughta Know act, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals. The band’s new album hit #6 on iTunes’ most downloaded list. They’ve appeared on Ellen and Jay Leno. Their songs have been featured on ER and Grey’s Anatomy. They performed on Tim Burton‘s Alice in Wonderland soundtrack. And VH1 just announced that they’re part of this year’s VH1 Divas Salute the Troops lineup with Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj. So why all the hoopla?
For starters, the Vermont-based quartet has attracted a loyal fan base by releasing three well-reviewed albums since forming in 2002 and paying some serious dues on the tour circuit (up to 200 gigs a year). But of course Grace Potter’s sound is the main draw. It recalls the soulful side of 70’s rock, and we’re guessing that some fans are latching onto it partially as an alternative to the prevalence of auto-tune. It also doesn’t hurt that frontwoman Grace Potter has a powerful bluesy voice and happens to be more than a little attractive.
Speaking of attractive, we caught up with Grace at Austin City Limits music fest last month and she posed for some pics. Click the jump to see.
If you watched VH1’s Divas last year, you may recall presenter Kathy Griffin being called a “fire-crotch” by host Paula Abdul. Now it’s Kathy’s turn to dole out the jabs. VH1 is announcing that the quick-witted “D-List” comedian will serve as host of “VH1 Divas Salute The Troops,” airing Dec. 5 at 9/8c. And she’s already promised VH1 that she “will not hold back.” Also announced: the rock quartet Grace Potter & The Nocturnals has been added to a lineup that already includes Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Sugarland, Keri Hilson and Paramore. Full press release after the jump.
There’s an ancient maxim that claims people either have brains or beauty, never both. But Caleb and Jared Followill of the Kings of Leon are an exception to the rule. They seem to have it all, plus a sense of humor! The humor element is what we weren’t entirely expecting when the Nashville-based crew sat down to talk with VH1 News’ Janell Snowden about their new album, Come Around Sundown. That’s not to say the standard topics weren’t covered, like how their music has evolved and what it feels like to win a Grammy Award for Record of the Year.
With 130 bands performing over three sunny days, we couldn’t possibly catch all the action at this year’s Austin City Limits music fest. So we asked you to contribute to VH1’s Top 20 Moments from ACL by tweeting pictures using #ACLtop20 — and you delivered! Here are the results (in random order). All non-twit pic photos are by Lisa Nola for VH1.

The bands weren’t the only part of the show at this year’s Austin City Limits: Festival goers were part of the entertainment too.

The last time we sneak peeked a Taylor Swift video, it was for “The Best Day,” a warm and fuzzy song about her relationship with her mom. Now it’s for “Mine,” a warm and fuzzy song about a boy — a boy who “made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter.”
Like “The Best Day,” this video cycles through images that highlight the relationship. But an engagement ring is the most important prop here, not baby toys. Yep, country’s brightest little star is all grown up.
The single “Mine” is from Taylor’s new album, Speak Now, to be released October 25. Check back Friday, Aug.25, at 8:30PM EST to watch the video’s full world premiere.

This Sunday you’ll meet 85 women who think they might be Chad Ochocinco‘s soulmate. But the NFL superstar isn’t just courting ladies — he’s also after Andy Roddick! Ochocinco publicly challenged Roddick to a tennis match via his Twitter yesterday: “@andyroddick how long are you gonna keep ducking me on court, say the place, grass, clay or hard surface, don’t be scared!” To which Roddick replied, “I might just try to beat u with a frying pan.” Oh, it’s on!
Now, you’re probably wondering how Ochocinco could beat one of the world’s greatest tennis players. After all, his competition on the court won’t be frazzled or intimidated by his celebrity status or perfect physique. Ocho may have been a regional tennis champ as a kid, but he’s no fool. That’s why his initial challenge last January stipulated that Roddick must play with his left hand.
So can Ocho beat a left-handed Roddick? You’ll find out soon enough — the two athletes are nailing down a date now. In the meantime, watch Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch this Sunday, July 11 at 9/8c. The T.O. Show follows at 10:30/9:30c.
