In America, sex is not just something people do behind closed doors - it’s a revolution. VH1 is embracing our culture’s obsession with doin’ it in the new four-part documentary special Sex: The Revolution, which starts airing Monday at 10PM (after the kids are in bed, natch) and continues through Thursday. Consider the above clip a little visual foreplay for what’s to come. It features a porn star from back in the day who decided to take on the Guinness World Record for most sexual partners in one sitting. The magic number: 86. The result? The world’s first spermathon.
Oh.My.God. This is by far the best video we have seen all week, and we implore every single person on earth to watch it NOW. Kim Kardashian is an activist ya’ll, and she and her sisters have made a video educating us stupid folk about the oppressive military regime in Burma (aka Myanmar). Seriously. Kim spends just as much time reciting facts about the country (recently hit by a devastating cyclone) as she does looking at herself in the mirror. It’s classic Kardashian! Let’s hope she gave some of that sex tape money to the Burmese people who need her help. [Official Kim Kardashian]
American Idol is roaring towards its conclusion (the show clocked its biggest voting numbers last night) and this week the remaining four contestants tried to amp it up to win over the audience. Except that, even with the breadth of the songbook on offer this week (songs from the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame), the two Davids, Jason, and Syesha pretty much gave limp performances. Who fumbled hardest? Hard to say. Let’s count down last night’s top five weakest moments:
5. Steely Dan Salute
The show’s group performances are always an uphill battle, but as the competition wears on, these segments seem to get worse and worse. The fab four tried their hand at Steely Dan’s “Reelin’ in the Years,” and eradicated hopes anyone might have had about the formation of an Idol super-group. The vocals were passable. What killed this thing were the clunky attempts at dancing. You could call it synchronized walking, ‘cept it wasn’t all that synchronized.
Listen up. You look REALLY good in this video clip from your second stint on How I Met Your Mother. We’re talking pre-Federline good. Now that’s something! So could you please hire whoever is styling you on set and bring them home to your Beverly Hills lair and pay them loads of cash to help you look this good as you parade to the dance studio everyday? Trust us - this is the best advice you’ve gotten since your parents told you to get rid of Sam Lutfi, and your hair will look infinitely better than it does now.
Oprah loves to talk, so today she’s blabbing all about Mariah and Nick’s wedding on her show. O even snagged some wedding pics for us to peep and reveals that Mariah got a “Mrs. Cannon” tat on her back before they were married. Spontaneous indeed! It’s rumored that Mimi might show up on the show today to dish her own dirt, but until then here’s a clip of the chatter, featuring our fave gal pal Gayle King, as well as famous spouses Mark Consuelos (married to Kelly Ripa) and Alexandra Wentworth (who calls George Stephanopoulos her hubby).
Last night the fab four selected tunes from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 most influential songs. Given the breadth of music history from which to choose, the performances showcased the competitors’ talent while revealing their own musical preferences. NOT! It seems all but Archuleta were thrown by the freedom the open-ended theme provided, choosing classics that were either out of their league or wildly inappropriate. Charm and skill may have saved Cook and Mercado, but Castro is surely head back to nowheresville – hey guy, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. More after the jump.
Gotta know the words to the songs if you’re going to sing the songs. Gotta sing the songs if you’re going to win the contest. Gotta win the contest if you’re going to be an American Idol. Smells like Jason Castro is going to be relegated to wannabe status. He messed up the lyrics to “Mr. Tambourine Man” on last night’s show. After that, it’s pretty likely his ancient, empty street’s too dead for dreaming, know what I mean?
JC shoulda hit our Lyrics site, a wonderful resource that we supply gratis to all our visitors.
Or maybe he shoulda studied the real deal in action, which you can see after the jump.
Recently, Gavin DeGraw stopped by our offices to play a few of the hits off his brand new album Gavin DeGraw, out today. The hat-lovin’ troubadour dropped a heap of soul in the middle of our days when he played first single “In Love With A Girl” and “Cheated On Me.” Check out DeGraw’s pipes, as well as his witty banter, above and after the jump.
Recently, Sean “Diddy” Combs received the honor of being the first rapper honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. VH1 News was there to capture the magic moment, where Diddy shared his heartfelt plans for the next stage of his life: “I’m going to Disneyland,” he told us exclusively.
You’ll be able to get a big dose of Diddy soon when his show I Want To Work For Diddy airs in August. Stay tuned.
Chart-topping fox Rihanna has teamed up with Maroon 5 on the band’s song “If I Never See Your Face Again” from last year’s It Won’t Be Soon Before Long. The above behind-the-scenes clip features a scantily clad Rihanna facing off against Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine for what the band’s label head described as a “battle of the sexes style duet.” Check back here next Tuesday to see the sparks fly between Maroon and Rihanna in the video.
There’s also a very interesting guest on the set of the video whose face is blurred out — can you guess who might have been visiting RiRi?
Wondering what Mariah and Nick’s honeymoon is like? The second single, Mimi’s tearjerker “Bye Bye,” will give you a pretty good idea. Shot documentary-style, we get a peek at the intimate beginnings of Mariah and Nick’s relationship. But since the theme of the song is loss, we also flip through Mariah’s personal photo album. Check out all the folks Mariah’s loved and lost, as well as the one she’s loving right now.
