When we chose Eric Hutchinson to be one of our “You Oughta Know” artists a few weeks ago, we knew that we were knocked out by the craft that drives his tunes and the verve that he puts into his performances. You can hear what we heard on Rhapsody’s Hutchinson page (download or stream his songs).

What we didn’t know was how deeply the young pup’s music has touched people around the world. That’s why we were thrilled to come across the infomercial clip above. The incredibly talented Sara Bareilles is out on the road with James Blunt on the You Oughta Know Tour. We asked the piano-playing phenom to give us updates from the road, and given that she’s such a sweetheart, she obliged. In her latest installment, Sara has some big news:

I’m so excited!!!!!!! I just found out that my album Little Voice has gone Gold!! This is insane. I don’t even really know how to process the whole thing. I found out from my manager and then ran to tell my bandmates (Josh, Javier, and Chad) and we all high-fived and let our jaws hang open for a bit. I have to be honest, it’s such an incredible experience we get to have every day, being out on the road. I mean, we actually get to make and share music for a living. That in and of itself is a huge deal…and we all remind each other that every day. But I must say, Gold Record feels pretty cool too. It’s actually the coolest thing ever. I think we should celebrate. Last time we all celebrated something it was Javier’s Birthday at Chuck E. Cheese’s. I think we should step it up this time. We’re going to Olive Garden. Cheers!

I’m sitting in the front lounge of our beautiful new bus, and it’s Valentine’s night. I wish I was out celebrating with friends but I’m nursing a cold instead of a beer. Needless to say, I’m so excited to be a part of this VH1 You Oughta Know Tour. The shows have all been sold out so far, and I know that both James Blunt and I have been thrilled with the whole experience. We are getting to play INCREDIBLE venues and there are so many wonderful listeners coming out to support. But since it’s more fun to hear the sordid details than how perfect everything is…

The best way for a newcomer to quickly make a dent on the charts is to drop a few tunes that have irresistible refrains or choruses. The sunny West Coast chanteuse Colbie Caillat has done just that, and her “Bubbly” is racing to the top end of the standings. One of our You Oughta Know artists, Caillat wooed MySpace users last year, and now her Coco is turning lots of heads. “Bubbly” is sweet little tune, and the chance to hear it in a stripped down setting has arrived. We’re launching Colbie’s “Unplugged” performances tomorrow. Here’s a look at one clip from the session to whet your appetite.
