Celebrating MLK’s Dream

John Legend
Lots of prep work has gone into the solidification of the Martin Luther King, Jr National Memorial on the Mall in Washington, DC. All that’s needed is a final chunk of change to help get the whole thing built. When it’s complete, a tribute to the great man’s ideas regarding equality and peace will be closely situated to those praising other American thinkers, such as Lincoln and Jefferson.

An array of performers have bonded together to help secure these project funds - The Dream Concert is a superstar deal that takes place in New York on Tuesday, September 18. Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Carlos Santana, Ludacris, John Legend, Babyface, Usher, Garth Brooks, Wycliffe Jean, Joss Stone, Talib Kweli, Robin Thicke, Whoopi Goldberg, Magic Johnson, and several others will take the stage for the cause.

Check back on Wednesday. We’ll have some post-show pics for you. Which artist would you most like to see yourself? Hit “Comments.”

Joss Stone Slams Perez Hilton, Sort Of

Earlier this year, celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton spread some fairly nasty news about neo-soul star Joss Stone. The nastiness? A video in which producer Dallas Austin claimed that Stone traded sex for beats. Now comes Stone’s rebuttal in the form of a YouTube video. Dressed up as a newscaster, the singer reports on how Hilton needs lots of help. She says it’s hard to tell if he’s a man or a woman, and mentions him being possessed by Satan. (Perez can’t possibly be possessed by Satan, since Satan is currently got his grips on most of Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Malibu and the Lower East Side — not West Hollywood.)  Joss, your media-war ante has been duly noted. Way to go!

Nelly & Joss Live: Psyched For Sunday?

Nelly2_4Nelly Furtado, Joss Stone, and Natashia Bedingfield are three of the ladies who are going to hit the stage in at this weekend’s Concert for Diana. They’re also three of the ladies who have come by our Unplugged studios and kicked some acoustic butt. Breezing through their individual sessions might be a good way to prep for Sunday’s show. The entire six-hour extravaganza is being streamed on VH1.com starting at 11 a.m. EST. Which artist is going to rock the house?

The Return of Lauryn Hill

Lauryn_hill_artistphoto Former Fugee and famed recluse Lauryn Hill will play three shows in England this summer, much to the surprise of pretty much everyone. After intermittent rumblings of a Fugees reunion, and the rather disappointing fruits of those rumors, little has been heard from Hill since she released her nearly flawless solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1998. Between her 2002 Unplugged session and a brief stop at Joss Stone’s Bahamian recording compound this past year to lend some help (and cred), Lauryn’s been all but disappeared. Which is why we’re so excited about her return from artistic exile!

Lauryn’s Return:
07-08 London, England - Apollo Hammersmith
07-09 Birmingham, England - Carling Academy
07-10 Manchester, England - Apollo

Wear Your Grammy

Jossstone_2Grammy fanatics, rejoice! At a press conference earlier today, Motown Svengali Quincy Jones and barefoot soul-slinger Joss Stone were on hand to help announce some news: Grammy Brand clothing. Sure, they discussed some other items commemorating the awards spectacular’s 50th anniversary — like a coffee table book, a new 30,000-square-foot Grammy Museum in L.A., and Aretha Franklin’s philanthropic and musical endeavors — but we were taken with the part about the “high-end fashion collection” for men and women coming to boutiques this fall. Expect everything from $49 T-shirts to $9,000 black-diamond-studded sunglasses. A portion of the proceeds benefits MusiCares, a non-profit that helps support needy musicians. Would you wear Grammy?
