Wayne’s “Jeggings” Dominate VMA Fashion Talk
Lady Gaga may have dressed in drag (including a fake penis!) but the underdog fashion statement of the Video Music Awards has turned out to be Lil Wayne‘s attire—specifically, the Tripp women’s leopard-print skinny jeans he sported during his show-closing performance of “How To Love” and “John.” As eagle-eyed critics noted, the style is available from East Village boutique Trash and Vaudeville (but also, unsurprisingly, from Hot Topic). Technically, they’re not jeggings, but that hasn’t stopped “Wayne’s Jeggings” from catching on, even as Twitter account @Waynes_Jeggings (naturally, @DrakesSweater also exists). [Us Weekly/Complex]

Altruism Alert: Linkin Park’s Benefit-Show Tsunami-Relief Fundraiser Nets $350K; 50 Cent Does His Part After Festival Set
The Linkin Park tsunami-relief show we reported on last month happened last night, after fans raised over $350,000 for Japan for Relief. [MTV]
50 Cent also played a benefit show (today, in fact) in Norway following his performance at the RxR Festival. He scheduled an aftershow to take place in the ballroom of the Clarion Hotel in Stavanger to raise money for the Utøya Fund, and invited survivors of the Utøya massacre to both shows and a meet-and-greet. (Bet you thought the 50 Cent altruism story was going to be about his appearance on Pauly D‘s album.) [NY Post]

Linkin Park scored a nomination for a 2011 Do Something Award thanks to the work the band has done in connection with its charity Music for Relief, which is currently supporting tsunami relief work in Japan. (Tune in to VH1 tonight at 9 p.m. ET to see if they won!) Want proof that the band doesn’t do this for the accolades? Look no further than the exclusive and intimate live show the band has planned for August 31 in Los Angeles. There’s only one way to score a pair of tickets: Raise at least $500 for tsunami relief.

In a clever turnaround of the Kickstarter-style “rewards for pledges,” which was inspired by non-profits’ fundraising techniques, the band booked a secret location (later revealed to be the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles) and have employed an online fundraising engine through which over 5,000 fans have raised nearly $275,000 so far in a competition for just over 1,000 tickets. Six days (and limited tickets) remain in the fundraising challenge, but it’s certainly still worth giving a shot if you’re in the greater Los Angeles area. If not, find a fan who’s near the goal and help her or him score tickets. All proceeds go to tsunami relief (Music for Relief’s partner organizations are listed on its website.)

Adele has never shied away from cover songs (when 21 debuted at #1, Buzzfeed listed their favorite nine covers, topped by her Unplugged performance of “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”) but this latest cover is maybe her most fitting choice yet. As part of her iTunes Festival performance last night, she offered her take on Bonnie Raitt‘s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Aside from being a powerful song that Adele delivered well, the song is a good match for the boy-chews-up-girl-and-spits-her-out themes of 21, so it fits nicely into her body of work. One thing we’re wondering, though: a week and a half ago, Adele blogged her love of Bon Iver. Was she inspired to cover the song from his own rendition, on the B-side of his “Calgary” single and live on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon?

Joe Hahn has come a long way in the last decade. Linkin Park‘s turntablist has guided the band’s visual presentation since designing the concept for their first video (“One Step Closer”) and new single “Iridescent” is his fifteenth directorial credit.

The video for “Iridescent,” the fourth single from Linkin Park‘s A Thousand Suns and lead single from Transformers: Dark of the Moon: The Album, premieres on air on VH1 this Thursday, June 2, at 8pm, but you’ll be able to see the whole video online eight hours early, and you can watch an exclusive sneak peek above.

“Iridescent” is the fifteenth Linkin Park video directed by turntablist Joe Hahn, and the second (after 2009′s “New Divide”) to prominently feature Transformers imagery. That video used animation to link film clips and performance footage thematically as well as visually, but judging from this preview, “Iridescent” is considerably more ambitious, featuring a number of the upcoming film’s villainous bots flying around the band members performing, a skeletal outline of Optimus Prime superimposed over lead singer Chester Bennington, and possibly the first look at the film’s megavillain Unicron in his planet form:
