Tired of living in Beyoncé’s shadow 364 days of the year, Solange Knowles went to extremes to make sure she owned the spotlight at her birthday bash. While she donned a loud, orange mini-dress, Beyoncé and mom Tina Knowles conservatively wore black wrap dresses. If the family dress code weren’t enough, Solange got the hottest DJ in town, Samantha Ronson, to work the event, posing with her and (rumored) girlfriend Lindsay Lohan. Hopefully Solange’s new single will allow her to taper the attention-grabbing antics. Ludacris, Ne-Yo, Cee-Lo, JoJo, Mario, and The Pussycat Dolls were also at the fete.

Lots of prep work has gone into the solidification of the Martin Luther King, Jr National Memorial on the Mall in Washington, DC. All that’s needed is a final chunk of change to help get the whole thing built. When it’s complete, a tribute to the great man’s ideas regarding equality and peace will be closely situated to those praising other American thinkers, such as Lincoln and Jefferson.
An array of performers have bonded together to help secure these project funds - The Dream Concert is a superstar deal that takes place in New York on Tuesday, September 18. Beef was on the menu of a brunch in Los Angeles on Sunday, where a scuffle broke out between T.I. and Ludacris‘ Disturbing tha Peace Records partner Chaka Zulu aka the man whose name you are most jealous of. Seriously, who wouldn’t want the melodious lungs of Chaka Khan coupled with the warrior spirit of Shaka Zulu? Chaka Zulu may be the closest we’ve come yet to a perfect human being and I say that solely on basis of his name.
Anyway, details are scant but T.I. is said to have punched the face of Chaka, the partner of Luda, his on-again, off-again rival at the Power Brunch event hosted by Warner Music Group EVP Kevin Liles. An entourage-wide scuffle is said to have then broken out, only to be broken up by the police minutes later. In the end, one woman was injured and, according to a witness, T.I.’s shirt was torn. And the whole place swooned!
I dedicate two anti-violence tracks from hip-hop’s golden era to T.I., West Coast All Stars’ "We’re All in the Same Gang" and the Stop the Violence Movement’s "Self Destruction." T.I., your permanently fastened sunglasses don’t fool me: you need some cooling out.

People Magazine’s Hottest Bachelors issue is out, featuring the sweet , hunky faces of Blake Lewis, Jake Gyllenhaal and Ludacris. But they might want to revise their list to add 50 Cent, who just got $100 million richer.
The hip-hop star is packing away a ton of cash from his deal with Glaceau, the makers of Vitamin Water. Fifty signed on to have a drink named after him (Formula 50) in exchange for equity in the company as a shareholder. Glaceau was just bought by Coca Cola in a massive $4.1 billion deal, and now the rapper is set to rake it in, adding to his already enormous pile of millions.
It’s really cute that single Blake Lewis can beat-
box and all, but wouldn’t you rather have a man with millions upon millions of dollars - and a ton of crazy tattoos?

When Don Imus went off on Rutgers’ hoopsters, he didn’t just do himself in. He might have taken down hip-hop, too.
Ever since the shock jock’s racist remarks about the women ballers, numerous pundits have attacked rap, as they feel the music’s lingo is responsible for his choices of words. For instance, over the last few days:
- Al Sharptondeclines to give an award to record exec L.A. Reid because the label supports "gutter" rap. Reid’s imprint works with Ludacris, Jay-Z and others.
Personally, I’ve got no beef with honestexaminations of rap’s place in society, but I’m tired of "concerned" parties latching on to causes just to make a name for themselves. Hot air can be just as offensive as Luda lyrics in my book.
