There she is, our beautiful, spontaneous bride. We must admit, we’re WAY more into her recent wedding outfit than the contraption she wore when she walked down the aisle in 1993 with Tommy Mottola. People‘s got the inside scoop on the nuptials, and Mimi told the mag that she and Nick “are soulmates. ” I never felt a love like this was in the cards for me,” she elaborated.
From the looks of things in that bottom pic at the beach, it looks like they are definitely “mates” of some kind. Congrats Mariah and Nick! Or should we call you Marick?
Latina is reporting that Mariah Carey’s supposed beau Nick Cannon is not only her man for real, he’s now also her husband! Citing a source close to Nick, the site reports that Mariah and Nick wed yesterday on a small island in a “very impulsive” ceremony attended by Da Brat and some others close to the pair. Do you think maybe that this is all some big April Fool’s joke that’s arriving fashionably late?
Maybe that’s wishful thinking — as the shot to the left (from the set of Mariah’s 2005 video for “We Belong Together”) proves, Mimi is definitely the marrying type. This would be her second marriage (she divorced svengali Tommy Mottola in 1998) and Nick’s first, since he’s, like, 12. [Latina.com]
A sneak peek of Mariah’s new video for her next single “Bye Bye” has leaked. In the clip above, we see Mimi hopping the pond for a trip to London. Bonus: the documentary style clip finds her sitting on the lap of a certain rumored fiance.
Take this with a 17 carat grain of salt, but the NY Post is reporting that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are indeed engaged to be married. The ring, allegedly purchased by Nick, cost her man $2.5 million and was purchased at Jacob the jeweler. The massive rock is 17 carats and has a 10 carat stone surrounded by pink and purple diamonds (obviously - this is Mariah “Butterfly” Carey we’re talking about). No one even knew these two were together a month ago - including the happy couple. Maybe that means this marriage is meant to last? [NYPost]
Sooooooo that rock can’t really be from Nick Cannon… or could it? Nick himself didn’t deny the claim, and got a bit awkward when asked about the bling buzz yesterday. “I can’t even know what to say,” Nick stammered to MTV News. “She’s probably the most festive, remarkable person I’ve ever met.”
That’s not a denial! We were a bit skeptical about Nick possibly giving Mimi a giant rock, so we decided to examine the engagement ring he gave to his ex-fiancee Selita Ebanks after proposing in Times Square. We made quite a discovery! The rings are not only both huge, they look remarkably alike. If Mariah’s ring is from Nick, it’s obvious what kind of rocks he likes to buy his ladies!
Mimi’s been known to sport some bling in her day (butterfly rings, anyone?) but this rock - worn noticeably on her engagement finger this weekend - is makin’ a statement! I mean seriously, who could she possible be engaged too? The number one singer has been linked to Nick Cannon recently, but he’s a newly single guy who can’t possibly be looking to settle down right this second. Our guess: she’s engaged to herself. I mean seriously, once you’ve been with Mariah, how could you be with anyone else?
The clip above comes from Mariah Carey’s performance on today’s episode of Good Morning America, and it shows an Ashlee Simpson-level snafu. At the start of her “Touch My Body” performance, her backing track comes in too early. And then a second backing track, so that the song takes on a singing-in-the-round effect. Mariah plays it off without so much as a jig, and sings the rest mostly live. But then, after the bridge a particularly impassioned pre-recorded “Touch my body!” rings out, and Mariah coos to a backup singer, “Stop singing my parts, now baby!” Uh, isn’t singing your part exactly what backing tracks are supposed to do? Tomorrow evening, New York City is honoring hometown girl Mariah Carey by lighting up the Empire State Building lavender, pink and white (of course) to celebrate her latest chart-topping album E=MC2. For the entire weekend, the New York landmark will be lit up to celebrate the number one selling female artist of all time. We got to thinking about some other monuments that could be tweaked to honor Mimi. Take the jump to find out what else should get Mariah’d.
Though Mariah Carey topped the charts this week with her latest E=MC2, she may be feeling the heat from the new batch of talented singers, particularly Leona Lewis, who occupies the number two slot after dominating the charts last week. Mimi’s been asked about the similarities, and as you can see from the photo above, they do bear more than a slight resemblance.
In an interview, Mariah responded to the constant comparisons that have plagued her for the length of her twenty-year career, and also to Ms. Lewis specifically. “Honestly, there has been so many, this is the new her, and I’m like, OK, show me the new her…I’m not particular talking about this girl Leona, because I only heard her once and I didn’t really hear a true similarity, particularly in the style of music.”
Sounds like Ms. Mimi’s a bit defensive there. She went on to say that she prays to lose “the spirit of jealousy.” We bet knocking Leona out of the chart’s top spot helps with that, but as for her “no similarity” claim, really, Mariah? Not the hair? Not the young age you both started at, the multi-octave voice or the fact that you came up in difficult circumstances? OK, Mims. Whatever you say.

Yesterday our favorite diva showed up on Oprah to give the talk queen a personal tour of her massive NYC house. Our favorite spot in her lair? Mariah’s effing lingerie closet, which you can gawk at in the video clip above. She really IS just like us common folk! Mimi has like, a billion sexy nighties, which is a good thing because it’s rumored that she might have a new boy toy just waiting to see her strip down to something more comfortable. The singer’s been spotted recently getting close with the multi-talented hottie (and heartbreaker) Nick Cannon. Sure, her rep’s denying that they’re together, but they were just in Vegas last night acting chummy! And let’s be real - there’s nothing like celebrating a hit album with a little booty call, right?
