Tired of living in Beyoncé’s shadow 364 days of the year, Solange Knowles went to extremes to make sure she owned the spotlight at her birthday bash. While she donned a loud, orange mini-dress, Beyoncé and mom Tina Knowles conservatively wore black wrap dresses. If the family dress code weren’t enough, Solange got the hottest DJ in town, Samantha Ronson, to work the event, posing with her and (rumored) girlfriend Lindsay Lohan. Hopefully Solange’s new single will allow her to taper the attention-grabbing antics. Ludacris, Ne-Yo, Cee-Lo, JoJo, Mario, and The Pussycat Dolls were also at the fete.

The Pussycat Dolls are authorities on what’s hot, or so it would seem as they’ve been tapped to host the VH1 special Maxim Hot 100, premiering Tuesday, May 27 at 9/8c. The one-hour one-off will count down the ladies on this year’s Maxim Hot 100 list. Tila Tequila, Natasha Bedingfield, Kat Von D, Ashanti, Taryn Manning, Ashley Tisdale, Molly Sims and Danneel Harris are just a few of the names to have made the list — tune in to find whose hotness is where.

50 Cent is just like us, at least in one respect: he can’t pronounce the name of Pussycat Dolls‘ Nicole Scherzinger, either. Even though they got together for a track for Fiddy’s upcoming Curtis disc, the rapper couldn’t get down with her name. He recently told Blender:

“They should’ve changed her name. Her name is Schizinger or some s***, right? That’s a f***ed up name…I’d give her like a stripper name. Maybe ‘Pleasure’ or some s***. ‘Nicole Natalie.’“

Fiddy has the right idea: down with Schizinger! If old Schizzy isn’t feeling “Pleasure” or “Nicole Natalie,” here are a few other suggestions she should seriously consider. They’re all better than “Scherzigner,” but then again, the sound of a vacuum cleaner is better than “Scherzinger.” Anyway, our list:

After months of speculation (some of which appeared on this very blog), we now have nearly official word that Asia Nitollano, “winner” of the CW reality hit Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll, has left the group. CW honcho Dawn Ostroff announced at a press conference last week that Asia has left the group to pursue a solo career. No word on whether that will be in the field of music, prizefighting or linguistics. Regardless, the disagreeable French fry fanatic clearly has a bright future ahead of her.

Of course, this has cause a few to grumble about the legitimacy of the show — what was the point if the winner didn’t end up with a prize (especially when promos for a second season aired during the first season’s finale)? Ostroff was careful to point out that Asia left the group (she wasn’t, say, thrown out for being a total jerk) and that she did so only after the finale aired.

I couldn’t care less about what happens to the winner of the show, as long as craptastic reality TV like Search continues to be churned out. It’s all about the means, never the ends, people. Have you learned nothing from America’s Next Top Model (besides how to smile with your eyes)? Besides, is there really a big difference between fading into the background of the Pussycat Dolls and falling of the face of the earth, anyway? [Chicago Sun-Times, Image credit: Getty]
