Big Sean Video Features Kanye West And Cheesecake
And don’t the two go hand-in-hand? The Hype Williams-directed video for Big Sean‘s “Marvin and Chardonnay” splits the difference between Williams’s 2005 clip for Kanye West‘s “Gold Digger” and “Best I Ever Had,” the Drake video that West directed. [YouTube]

Blink-182 Release New Song
Two weeks after premiering the video for lead single “Up All Night,” Blink-182 have released another cut from Neighborhoods (due out September 27). “After Midnight” is available as a free download for winners of a mind-numbingly simple stopwatch game that we nevertheless kept playing until we won (after 13 attempts). While many of the biggest names in music were playing for 270,000 (!) fans in Chicago this weekend at the 2011 Lollapalooza festival, two members of the hip hop community—one an established vet, one an up-and-comer— found themselves on the wrong side of the law.

On Friday, the Los Angeles Times reported that New York state police arrested Big Sean, Kanye West’s newest protoge, after performing a concert at Artpark State Park in Lewiston, NY. The 23 year-old was charged with misdemeanor counts of forcible touching, unlawful imprisonment and sex abuse after an unnamed woman phoned police complaining of sexual assault. Big Sean and a member of his entourage, Willie “Sayitainttone” Hansbro, were jailed and released on a $500 bond. Big Sean isn’t speaking, but his lawyer released a statement saying “both men vehemently deny the charges” and that “I am confident, that after further investigation, both men will be vindicated.” This case will go to court on September 6.

Then, on Sunday, Antwan “Big Boi” Patton (of Outkast fame) was pinched by the Miami po-po’s on felony drug possession charges. Apparently, drug-sniffing dogs got the best of Big Boi after he exited an unnamed cruise ship, and police found ecstasy pills, molly (which is ecstasy in powder form) and a whole bunch of Viagra in his luggage. He spent some time in the Miami-Dade Correctional Facility, but was released after posting $16,000 bond. His lawyer later explained to CNN that “a small amount of contraband was found in the collective luggage,” before adding that “I am confident when the entire facts are aired Big Boi will be completely exonerated.”

As a precautionary measure, we are advising that anyone who happens to perform either solo or in a band that has the name “Big” in the title— we’re looking at you, Big Daddy Kane, as well as members of Mr. Big and Reel Big Fish—avoid leaving their homes until this big bad mojo blows over.

VH1 News caught up with Estelle and Big Sean at the mostly drama-free Here I Am launch party, and the discussion turned to the late Amy Winehouse, whom Estelle knew from the London club circuit. (She’d told Sway, “I cried for about two days,” when she appeared on his Shade 45 morning show earlier that day.)

“She sang from her soul,” Estelle told VH1 News, as Big Sean looked on. She recalled first hearing “F—k Me Pumps,” from Winehouse’s debut Frank: “I’m sitting there, like, ‘I know girls like that! I know every one of ‘em girls! We rave with them every week!’” Clearly, even though the two singers came up together, Estelle admired her late friend’s lyrical talents. “It’s hard as an artist to be that clear and that clean in your message and what you’re talking about,” she said. “[Amy Winehouse] was the only one I knew who could do that, and just speak it.” The real revelation of the interview, though, is the new level of appreciation that Big Sean develops for Winehouse as Estelle speaks. “Wow! That’s crazy! I didn’t know it was like that,” he said, admiringly, adding, “I didn’t personally know her. That’s real, man. She sounded like a real G. No, seriously!” (Anyone who needs a reminder of her realness need only watch her shocked gratitude at winning the Grammy for Record of the Year. WARNING: That video nearly made us cry at work—and we watched the ceremony live.)

Despite what sassy producers and rumor-baiting media outlets might try to lead you to believe, the members of Destiny’s Child continue to insist, they remain friends and have neither beef nor competition. If a picture is worth a thousand words, Kelly Rowland, Beyoncé, and, as Rowland would chidingly remind those who forget, Michelle Williams closed the door on the case last night at the Top of The Standard Hotel in New York City. The trio of independent women gathered for a launch party celebrating the release of Rowland’s third solo album Here I Am. Also in attendance: Big Sean (who appears on the album), Estelle, Maxwell, and Terrence J of BET’s 106 and Park, among others.

On Tuesday, we shared some of Tinie Tempah’s thoughts on mentally transitioning from the UK to the US as an up-and-coming artist in the hectic world of hip-hop. Because the London native goes back and forth across the pond so frequently, we also asked Tinie to give us a cheat sheet of sorts, helping to get us looped-in to the who’s who of British rap. Check out his list of personal favorites below, because after all, you never know if one of these guys might be next.

GIGGS (IF YOU LIKE: Gucci Mane)
“Definitely be on the lookout for Giggs, he’s doing his thing,” preached Tinie. After collaborating with B.o.B and a slew of other big-name British rappers, Giggs continues spitting coke-rap bars for days. Style-wise, Tinie compared him to both Young Jeezy and Gucci; embodying the hustler image, Giggs served a two-year bid for a gun charge back in 2003, but inked with XL Recordings (see: M.I.A., Tyler, The Creator, Dizzee Rascal) to distribute his third solo LP next year off of self-made label, SN1 Entertainment.

We try to cover all the music stories that matter here on the VH1 Blog. Sometimes, though, we find too many stories to cover, stories that don’t exactly “matter” but are worth sharing, or even just good stuff from our peers. Here’s your Tuesday roundup:

Amazon’s 99-Cent Lady Gaga Deal Hurt Interscope
On Saturday, Ed Christman at Billboard noted on Saturday that while Amazon’s Born This Way price drop certainly helped increase overall sales figures for the album, it also shifted the balance from physical to digital sales to an extent for which Interscope was unprepared. Now, he calculates, 72% of Interscope’s initial shipment of physical copies of Born This Way—over 1.5 million CDs!—are taking up space on the shelves of retailers eager to return excess stock.

Is Britney Spears‘s Tour Underselling?
One of today’s Detroit Groupon Deals is a half-priced ticket to Britney’s July 28th show at The Palace of Auburn Hills. We can’t determine anything definitively from this, but we can presuppose that presales—at least, in Detroit—failed to meet expectations.

Before officially catching the wild wave of success that he continues to ride to this day, Kanye West was on a mission to prove his own talent and worth to the world. During that time, hip hop vet Jay-Z was the big brother, the mentor, and the boss man, letting Kanye audition tracks for placement on Roc-A-Fella Records artists’ albums. Fast-forward twelve years, and it’s Kanye who is now on the verge of building an empire, and his one-stop-shopping label, management, and production hybrid G.O.O.D Music could be his ticket out from under the giant-sized shadow of Jigga Man. Things move pretty fast in hip hop, but whether you know it or not, you may already be familiar with some artists Kanye’s signed to his squad, including Common, John Legend, “Day N Night” breakout artist Kid Cudi, and Pusha T: one half of brotherly rap duo Clipse, and the artist who performed with ‘Ye on last year’s VMAs. Other members of the G.O.O.D Music team (acronym for Getting Out Our Dreams), however, are either newer to the music world, or still taking time to build a tangible buzz. Either way, they might be worth getting familiar with before it’s too late!

Last Thursday night, in front of a ravenous Brooklyn crowd and with the help of Heineken’s summer concert series Red Star Access, Kanye unleashed a G.O.O.D Music showcase on the masses. Performing solo hits and giving his crop of artists their own short sets to shine, Yeezy would go back and forth appearing on stage, and at times, joined his proteges for songs they’ve collaborated on together. A good example and important collabo to note, freshly leaked “Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay” is a song that will be included on G.O.O.D/Def Jam rapper Big Sean’s debut album Finally Famous, out June 28th. At the album’s exclusive listening party held (also in NYC) on Tuesday of last week, Kanye compared the young, up-and-coming rapper to Beyonce, saying he had the potential to be what she is to R&B, but in hip hop. Hell of an introduction, wouldn’t you say? Certainly no pressure to Sean, who luckily already has a healthy following off of mixtapes released over the past four years. And speaking of Beyonce, there’s a rumor brewing that Kanye and his team of G.O.O.D. Music hooligans (including Pusha, CyHi Da Prynce, Kid Cudi and Big Sean) will guest-star on a yet-to-be-released remix for “Party,” the song that we’re keeping on eye on for Song of the Summer.
