As we parallel park into July and officially hit the curb of this year’s halfway point, it’s time to take a quick look back at what the past six months have taught us. Not conventional life lessons, however; we’re talking about stuff that’s a little bit less intense and also involves YOU! That’s right, in the first installment of our Top 100 Videos of 2011… So Far, we’re spilling the beans on the #100-51 most clicked-and-viewed videos on VH1.com. It might not be officially “summer” until June 21, but that’s not stopping us from starting our 2011 Song of the Summer Countdown. All day today, we’ll be highlighting Song of the Summer contenders as chosen by people who not only work here, but those that live and breathe music. Up first, we’ve got three picks from Jim Shearer, host of the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown, which airs each and every Saturday morning. Agree? Disagree? Let us know in the comments!

NOMINATION: Beastie Boys feat. Santigold, “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win”
EXPLANATION: To the naked ear it sounds like a Santigold song featuring the Beastie Boys, but don’t be fooled. When MCA, Mike D, and Ad-Rock were crafting the instrumental for this beachside-reggae delight, they were having trouble piecing it into a proper song until they got on the bat-phone and rang Santigold. “Don’t Play No Game” is pop enough for mainstream radio, but will Katy Perry, Beyoncé, and Ke$ha fans open their ears to listen?

When Jack Johnson isn’t busy trying to cut CO2 emissions from his tour’s carbon footprint or encouraging his fans to embrace plastic free initiatives, he actually carves out time from his busy schedule to make some music. With four solo albums (including the remix release of Sleep Through The Static) and multiple collaborations and compilations under his belt, Jack Johnson has resurfaced, delivering his fifth LP for fans to dive into. Before it’s available on June 1st, you can hear To The Sea exclusively on The Leak, courtesy of our friends over at Rhapsody.

If you want to see more of Jack, we have yet another wave for you to ride: Check out his 1515 Live performance of “No Good With Faces” above. That’s right, the Hawaiian-born surfer/filmmaker singer/songwriter decided to pop into our building and perform a few songs. For you Jack Johnson superfans out there, you can also check out an acoustic version of “You And Your Heart” that was taped here at our offices in Times Square. And if you still want more Jack Johnson, don’t miss the other songs (“Banana Pancakes”, “Better Together”) that he performed for us . Don’t forget to cast your vote for the new video to rank on our Top 20 Countdown.
