The Video Music Awards are a celebration of the best music video work that musicians and technical personnel have to offer. They’re also a live event attended by more than a few outsized personalities, all interacting with each other in close proximity. Part of what makes the event so exciting to us is the tension that proximity creates. Sometimes, though, it boils over past professional rivalry into personal beef.
With that in mind, here is a look back at the ten most memorable VMA fights. Will anyone get into it this year? (Pitbull and Lindsay Lohan?) We’ll be tuning in to MTV on Sunday at 9 p.m. to find out.

Calling all young people under 25 who are tackling a problem in the world. It’s your time to shine. The Do Something Awards is accepting applications for 2011. The big winner will not only get 100k for their cause, but also participate in the live broadcast of the show on VH1.
Last year, the event was hosted by Glee‘s Jane Lynch and featured appearances by Megan Fox, the Jonas Brothers and others. Of course, the real star of the night was last year’s grand prize winner, Jessica Posner (pictured above), who founded a school for girls and community center in Africa’s largest slum. In addition to the grand prize, five nominees will be rewarded with a $10,000 community grant.
Applications close March 1. Apply or nominate someone today at DoSomething.org/awards.
From Paul Newman to Tom Cruise, lots of stars have enjoyed driving fast. By the looks of this sneak of
new “Paranoid” video, they don’t mind a little speed out in the desert either. Actually, it’s looking pretty darn macho – they’re doing business in boxing rings and airplane hangers, too. Be here Saturday, May 23, at 8 pm ET, for the premiere of the full video. It’s the first song from their forthcoming album, Lines, Vines, and Trying Times, which is due June 16.

Sorry young ladies looking for love. Forget it, you cougars ready to pounce on the angelic brothers Jonas. The country’s three biggest heartthrobs – Nick, Kevin and Joe Jonas have taken a vow of celibacy, and they’ve got the rings to prove it! Joe, 18, says that the metal bands, “promises to ourselves and to God that we’ll stay pure till marriage.” They also promise heartache to the throngs of tweenage girls who are desperate for a piece of the musical prodigies. Maybe the move is a result of their strict Christian upbringing (their dad is a preacher and they started out as Christian rockers) or maybe the purity pledge, as 15-year old Nick puts it, “is just one of our ways of kind of like being different than everybody else out there.”
In a world where Paris Hilton‘s vagina rules, they are definitely being different. We wish the Jonas Brothers the best on their quest of love without lovemaking. All we have to say is that once Lindsay Lohan finds this out, it’s gonna be all over – or rather, she’s going to be all over them. Girlfriend loves herself some fresh virgin meat! [Details]
