(Bummed, that is.) Your friends at VH1 have a foolproof backup plan for you. Dress up in your Halloween finest on Saturday night, spend all day Sunday recuperating from your hangover, pass out candy to the little ones on Monday evening, then get ready for the main event, coming to you direct in the comfort of your very own living room. Because on Monday, October 31 at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 PT, none other than Robyn (!!!) will be headlining the O Music Awards 2! It’s settled, then; last night’s World Series Game 5 saw Demi Lovato take to the field to belt out the National Anthem, and we can begin debating whether she or Zooey Deschanel sang the “The Star Spangled Banner” better. And the winner is… It’s a tie! While both performers stood nervous and rigid as they sang, they both delivered very different, yet both delicately nuanced, vocal performances.

Zooey added her own special brand of sweetner to the Francis Scott Key jam with her dulcet tones and pixie girl charm, while Demi had all the big notes and soaring sentimentality. It would be unfair of us to deem one better than the other, in much the same way we’d never want to choose between vanilla and strawberry ice creams. Vanilla is a classic, like Demi’s voice: grand, bold and timeless; but strawberry is so sweet, like Zooey: relateable, fanciful and a little bit naughty. We’ll have a scoop of both, thanks!

That said, we want to hear what YOU think:

Everyone’s favorite indie sweetheart, Zooey Deschanel, belted out her rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” at Game 4 of the World Series last night. Giving a very serious performance, an initially fidgety Deschanel quickly eased into the big notes with her signature charm, all a flutter of doe eyes and half smiles. Keeping her hands firmly folded in front of her throughout the entire performance, we’re thinking Deschanel’s stoicism and poise had something to do with wearing high heels on grass — a girl’s got to balance, after all! And matching her red pumps, Deschanel’s dress was a show stopper in itself: Half candy cane, half flower bed, and appropriately festive.

No stranger to vocal gymnastics, we’ve been fans of Deschanel ever since she saved Christmas with her whimsical voice in Elf. Promoting her new show, New Girl, Deschanel’s World Series performance has transformed her from a manic pixie dream girl to pop culture’s newest darling. Not to mention a sporting hero. Indeed, as star of her own TV show and fronting indie pop band She & Him, it seems like there’s nothing the girl can’t do these days (especially now that she’s added “patriot” to her resume). And now we’re just wondering if her new crown as the World Series’ favorite anthem singer will be stripped tonight by our recent Posted artist, Demi Lovato, who will be following Deschanel’s performance with her own interpretation at Game 5 of the Series.

September is nearly over, so we’re preparing to say goodbye to this month’s VH1 Posted artist Demi Lovato—but before we do, we’ve got a few unmissable updates. First up: her installment of Ask Me Anything. “I’m gonna answer as many questions as I can,” she says, and she isn’t kidding—we had to split her answers up into five parts. Eight minutes may not sound like a long time but trust us: for rapid-fire questions on a range of topics, it totally is. Check it out!

We’ve also got the rest of her killer Top 20 Live set for you! We’ve already shared her cover of “How To Love” and her mini-medley of earlier songs (the latter alongside an exclusive set of Music Seen photos), but we haven’t shared any performances of songs from Unbroken—which just debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 (#1 in digital sales). How remiss of us! Above, hear her soulful slow-jam “My Love Is Like A Star,” and be sure to watch the set in full—including, of course, a killer rendition of “Skyscraper” to close out the performance.

When Demi Lovato came to our offices last week to record a Top 20 Live set, she not only surprised us with a Lil Wayne cover, but also proved extremely genial. “Hey guys, thanks for having me! I’m Demi. What’s your name?” she introduced herself, before kicking her set off with the medley, above, of “Catch Me,” a deep cut from 2009′s Here We Go Again, and “Don’t Forget,” the title track from her 2008 debut. That same temperament shines through in the series of photographs our own Jen Marigliano snapped for our Music Seen feature, as she followed Lovato during her day in New York City. After the jump, look behind the scenes at VH1′s Top 20 and check out the elements of Lovato’s bohemian-chic style, and be sure to check back for the rest of her Top 20 Live set.

Young artists, it seems, love Lil Wayne. Hot on the heels of Demi Lovato’s killer rendition of “How To Love” for VH1′s Top 20 Live, Justin Bieber has recorded his own cover of the single, which he shared via Twitter as a “happy birthday” message for the rapper. Bieber’s cover is a studio track, complete with double-tracked and backing vocals and his own guitar and percussion. Even still, Lovato’s cover (which, if you haven’t already seen it, is below) is one heck of a live performance. So we leave it to you: who covered it better?

Last week, when we first saw YouTube footage of Demi Lovato singing Lil Wayne‘s “How To Love” at her Hammerstein Ballroom show, we thought it was merely the latest in what’s increasingly become a trend among pop artists: the “curveball” live cover (more about that later). What we didn’t realize was that the rendition was actually a warm-up for the Top 20 Live set she recorded here at VH1 last Tuesday.

We’ll have the full set for you shortly (and it’s a doozy—including a two-song medley of one track from each of her previous albums and a killer rendition of “My Love Is Like A Star,” an Unbroken song James Morrison co-wrote for her) but we wanted to get this in your hands as quickly as possible. As with her dry run at the Hammerstein, this rendition transforms the song by largely switching the lyrics into a first-person perspective, which is a really great choice; by having the subject speak for herself rather than having Lil Wayne presume to speak for her, Lovato’s rendition sidesteps the original’s virgin/whore dichotomy. Naturally, we loved it.

Stay tuned for more from Lovato, this month’s Posted artist, including the rest of today’s set and the results of her session in the Ask Me Anything hot seat!

Demi Lovato popped by VH1 HQ here in New York City earlier this week to promote her new chart-topping album, Unbroken.September’s beloved Posted artist not only took time to answer a bunch of your “Ask Demi Lovato Anything” questions, but blew us away with a brilliant Top 20 Live performance; we’ll have both of these things for you to see very, very soon! Best of all, Demi even lent us her makeup artist Joyce Bonelli, who spilled details about how she achieved Demi’s natural, desert beauty look for the “Skyscraper” video. Now that’s what friends are for! See Joyce’s 10 tips below and grab the glam look for yourself.

STEP 1: DEMI’S SKIN

I always start Demi off by prepping her skin with Perfect Skin.

STEP 2: PRIMER

Unbroken, Demi Lovato‘s new album, is in stores today, and to celebrate and promote the record, this month’s Posted artist is back in New York City. She played the Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday night, and today she’ll be visiting our offices as today’s episode of The Ellen Show airs (featuring an interview and performance), before appearing on tonight’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. But thanks in part to an enthusiastic crowd of Lovatics outside the ABC studios, Lovato’s appearance on Good Morning America yesterday has made the biggest splash thus far. Nicole James gushed about the appearance for MTV’s Buzzworthy blog this morning, and below the jump you can see the interview with Robin Roberts, and her performance of “Skyscraper,” for yourself. And don’t forget to stay tuned for our exclusive coverage of her visit to VH1 today, and her own missives via Posted.

It’s been awesome hanging with Demi Lovato, our September Posted artist, so far this month. However, to paraphrase Martin Lawrence in Bad Boys II, “sh*t’s just about to get REAL!”

Next week, Demi Lovato is going to be paying our Times Square offices a visit. She’s going to be performing a special Top 20 Live set for us, but she’s also agreed to stick around afterwards to answer any questions that you, our VH1 Blog readers, have for her! All you Lovatics have to do to participate is to leave a question below in the comments, or send a tweet to @vh1 with the hashtag #askmeanything. We’re going to try and get her to answer a bunch of your questions, so get creative!
