Jennifer Lopez Will Return To American Idol
So said Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, in so many words, this morning on Ryan Seacrest‘s morning show: “I believe we’re still waiting for the official announcements but I am delighted to say that all three judges, along with the brilliant host of American Idol, [are] back for the next season.” [EW Inside TV]

Taylor Swift Premieres Fifth Speak Now Video
“Sparks Fly” is a pretty straightforward tour-advertisement video, but it’s a good advertisement, and anyway, what do you want? She’s already released four high-concept clips in the last year! Sidenote: we’re curious what Sara Marcus would say about Swift’s penchant for writing on her body. Is that in dialogue with riot grrrl? [Vimeo]

Fifteen years ago, Spice Girls released their first single in the UK and set the pop world ablaze with a sassy little tune called “Wannabe” that introduced the duel concepts of Girl Power and zig-a-zig-ahhhhh. Eventually hitting #1 in thirty countries across the world, Spices Scary, Ginger, Posh, Sporty and Baby parlayed the “Wannabe” phenomenon into fame and fortune, selling twenty-three million copies of their debut album Spice and seizing the throne for the best-selling girl group in history.

Because we’re sentimental when it comes to all things pop culture, other fave lady jams started flooding our memory bank and got us thinking that, well, sometimes they can get a bit raunchy. However, to us, that’s the beauty of girl groups: They balance with one foot on the empowerment soapbox, and the other foot on the soapbox that reads “gimme some.” Maybe we have it all wrong, butthis list of ten anthems that say “come hither” all while commanding some R-E-S-P-E-C-T will bring you back in time and get you set for a (hopefully) spicy week.

10. Dream, “He Loves U Not”
Puffy’s Bad Boy girl grouppre-Danity Kane was sort of flop-ish, but their single wasn’t! And while the lyric “he’s into what he’s got” might be somewhat tame, it serves it’s purpose to give off a “there’s more where that came from” warning to ladies trying to steal their men.

9. Destiny’s Child, “Lose My Breath”
“Put it on me deep in the right direction,” demands Kelly Rowland in this uptempo Destiny’s Child track. Serving as both an aphrodisiac and a challenge, the entire song begs the question of the ladies’ male suitors: “Can you keep up?”

The Strokes premiered the video for “Taken For a Fool,” the second single from Angles, earlier today, and unlike the conceptual first video “Under Cover of Darkness,” which symbolically narrates the band’s reunion after their extended hiatus, the video is a relatively simple band-performance clip, with a rhythmically animated background setting.

Nearly a decade ago, another simple-looking (though extraordinary labor-intensive) animated rock video made lots of waves on its way to winning Breakthrough Video of the Year at the 2002 VMAs: The White Stripes‘ LEGO-block “Fell in Love with a Girl.” Sunday marked the tenth anniversary of that single’s album, White Blood Cells, and while we’ve been exploring the story of Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt for its (fifteenth) anniversary (Part I/Part II), Eric Been marks the White Blood Cells decade for The Atlantic by re-examining the “Return of Rock” narrative that accompanied the rise of bands like the Stripes and the Strokes.

neon-hitch-over-you

Like Lady Gaga, SXSW artistNeon Hitch is an eccentric-looking singer and songwriter who makes danceable pop. Unlike Lady Gaga, she has a legitimately eccentric background. Neon Hitch (real name, not made up by a producer) grew up traveling in a Gypsy caravan with hippie British parents and performed as a trapeze artist in circuses and freak shows. At 16 she ran away to India without ever having gone to school, but not before her dad gave her CDs by Michael Jackson, Madonna and the Spice Girls — three of her biggest influences. How Neon went from circus act to co-writing Ke$ha‘s “Blah Blah Blah” to signing with a major label for a solo debut (no release date yet) is beyond us. But it’s a good thing she’s excelling as a pop star. Her resume would be a mess without it.

After the jump, Neon’s SXSW picks.

mel-b-boobs-big.jpg

Spice Girl Mel B. flaunted her breasts at a gig for the lingerie line Ultimo (she’s the spokesperson!), and she looked just a little uncomfortable in the boob-busting bra. But hey – her pain is our gain, because these are some of the hottest pics we’ve come across all day. Thanks Mel!

Boutiques Boot Posh

Victoria Beckham, the former Spice Girls singer who crossed over into the fashion industry, has been dumped by U.S. stores after weak sales of her line of jeans. Los Angeles-area boutique owner Fraser Ross cites one possiblereason for the break up: “A celebrity line is no different from an album or a tour. It has to be promoted to sell.” This may be true. But Fraseris missinga crucial point: Posh would have to actuallybefashionable to successfully promote a fashion line. Take a look at some ofher most hideous looks below. Would you buy clothes from this woman?

Photo_20x9_1 All Spice Girls Pics

How many different ways can you think of to say “cougar-ific?” We can think of at least five — and lucky for us, they’re all collected together in the Spice Girls. The ’90s British sensation kicked off a decade’s worth of bubblegum pop and teen idolatry with singles that ran ruts in the collective consciousness. (We dare you not to hum “Wannabe” right now. Hard, right?) In the years since their initial rise to fame, they never left the pop-culture eye. Posh turned her marriage into a business venture; Baby started a solo career and made guest appearances in Bollywood films; Scary broke up with Eddie Murphy and made it to the finals of Dancing With the Stars. And that’s to say nothing of their reunion. Their tour kicks off Sunday in Vancouver, and they’ll be heavily featured on CBS’s broadcast of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on December 4th. We’re looking forward to their get-ups.

Here it is, the kinda anticipated new single from the Spice Moms Girls – “Headlines!” It’s got the same slow n’ sexy vibe that you may recognize from other earlier Spice hits. We’re curious as to which four lines belong to Posh – the skinny mama apparently only sings for fifteen seconds on the single. Was she too busy prancing around Beverly Hills to actually work? Maybe it was the “crying and strange spiritual stuff” that went down at their video shoot? Give a listen to the new jam and let us know what you think – are the Girls back and in business or is this just a mediocre attempt at a comeback by a bunch of hot has-beens? [Image: Getty]
