Joss Stone‘s website proclaims that her forthcoming LP1 is “the first album Joss has recorded with total creative freedom.” Her fans needn’t worry, though; Stone’s newfound freedom is directed into another album of blues-rock soul, if last night’s performance of “Karma” on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno is any indication. She was joined by Eurythmics cofounder Dave Stewart, who co-produced LP1 and who, with Stone, comprises 40% of Mick Jagger‘s supergroup SuperHeavy.

“Karma” is the latest entry in the long and proud tradition of female vocalists’ wronged-lover songs, though despite Stone’s soul chops, it’s guitar-heavy and horn-free. Perhaps it’s more inspired by country’s takes on the theme, albeit with much less anger than, say, Carrie Underwood‘s “Before He Cheats” or Miranda Lambert‘s “Gunpowder and Lead.” LP1 was, after all, recorded in Nashville. Stone’s narrator does wield a loaded gun, though, so who knows?

Police responding to a call about two men “acting suspiciously in a red Fiat Punto” yesterday morning in Cullompton, a town in Devon, England, found the duo equipped with swords, rope, a body bag, and detailed maps and aerial photos of the nearby property of singer Joss Stone, The Sun reports.

The two men had driven over two hundred miles south from the Manchester area to reach their destination but were spotted slowly driving up and down the lanes in the posh rural area where Stone lives. The singer is estimated to be worth $15 million, but police would not confirm to The Guardian that the plot targeted her in particular, though they did offer assurances that a score of police in both Devon and Manchester were on the case.

Celebrating MLK’s Dream

John Legend
Lots of prep work has gone into the solidification of the Martin Luther King, Jr National Memorial on the Mall in Washington, DC. All that’s needed is a final chunk of change to help get the whole thing built. When it’s complete, a tribute to the great man’s ideas regarding equality and peace will be closely situated to those praising other American thinkers, such as Lincoln and Jefferson.

An array of performers have bonded together to help secure these project funds – The Dream Concert is a superstar deal that takes place in New York on Tuesday, September 18. Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Carlos Santana, Ludacris, John Legend, Babyface, Usher, Garth Brooks, Wycliffe Jean, Joss Stone, Talib Kweli, Robin Thicke, Whoopi Goldberg, Magic Johnson, and several others will take the stage for the cause.

Check back on Wednesday. We’ll have some post-show pics for you. Which artist would you most like to see yourself? Hit “Comments.”

Earlier this year, celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton spread some fairly nasty news about neo-soul star Joss Stone. The nastiness? A video in which producer Dallas Austin claimed that Stone traded sex for beats. Now comes Stone’s rebuttal in the form of a YouTube video. Dressed up as a newscaster, the singer reports on how Hilton needs lots of help. She says it’s hard to tell if he’s a man or a woman, and mentions him being possessed by Satan. (Perez can’t possibly be possessed by Satan, since Satan is currently got his grips on most of Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Malibu and the Lower East Side — not West Hollywood.)  Joss, your media-war ante has been duly noted. Way to go!

Nelly2_4Nelly Furtado, Joss Stone, and Natashia Bedingfield are three of the ladies who are going to hit the stage in at this weekend’s Concert for Diana. They’re also three of the ladies who have come by our Unplugged studios and kicked some acoustic butt. Breezing through their individual sessions might be a good way to prep for Sunday’s show. The entire six-hour extravaganza is being streamed on VH1.com starting at 11 a.m. EST. Which artist is going to rock the house?

Lauryn_hill_artistphoto Former Fugee and famed recluse Lauryn Hill will play three shows in England this summer, much to the surprise of pretty much everyone. After intermittent rumblings of a Fugees reunion, and the rather disappointing fruits of those rumors, little has been heard from Hill since she released her nearly flawless solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1998. Between her 2002 Unplugged session and a brief stop at Joss Stone‘s Bahamian recording compound this past year to lend some help (and cred), Lauryn’s been all but disappeared. Which is why we’re so excited about her return from artistic exile!

Lauryn’s Return:
07-08 London, England – Apollo Hammersmith
07-09 Birmingham, England – Carling Academy
07-10 Manchester, England – Apollo
