We whet your appetite with a 30-second sneak peek of The Script’s new video for “Nothing” on Monday, but now that the full masterpiece has arrived in the form of an exclusive Top 20 Video Countdown premiere, feel free to feast! Watching the trio leave a bar in rare form in the initial clip, we were curious to see what would come of their wild night on the town, especially since the song’s lyrics don’t try to mask the “Am I better off dead?” pain that can come hand in hand with a horrible breakup.

Brooding over his former love, a downtrodden Danny has one drink too many, prompting him to get a little rowdy and uncontrollably shout his ex’s name in the street. While bandmates Mark and Glen were initially contributing to his getting liquored up, they then somehow manage to lose track of him while crossing a quaint, Monet-arched bridge over a canal. After looking introspectively down at the water below, Danny proceeds to climb to the bridge’s ledge (are those studded Louboutin sneakers or Chucks?!) and jump in. And since we all know shots and swimming don’t mix, there is a clear cause for concern.

Once he actually hits the water’s surface (an action that could be viewed as a suicide attempt), Danny discovers that his lady is there, too, in the form of a water goddess, and happily cashes in on some intimate, underwater smooches. While her presence is seemingly a fantasy, we soon realize that our beloved lead vocalist is, in fact, in the water, for real. Does he wind up drowning in this analogy of sadness come to life, or will he live to sing another day?

With such an oversaturation of music from “up-and-coming” rappers these days, it’s a constant struggle to differentiate the rookies with potential from the mediocre flashes in the pan. Every day, it seems, there’s a new solo artist, duo or squad that you’re compelled to listen to, and just keeping track of the influx of talent calls can be exhausting for listeners. If you’re a rapper or emcee trying to penetrate “the game,” it must be intimidating, right? Now imagine you’ve got an extra handicap: You’re British.

With an alley-oop assist from Eric Turner’s booming “Written In The Stars” chorus, the Capitol-drafted English import rapper Tinie Tempah is gaining early momentum on this side of the pond, and remains determined to do something that very few UK spitters have done before: “break” in America. Tinie has done quite well for himself in his native U.K., as his most recent album Disc-Overy debuted at #1 on the British charts and launched four Top Five singles (including two number ones), and was England’s top-selling debut album by a Brit in 2010. Two BRIT Awards, a recent BET Award for Best International UK Artist and a well-reviewed performance at Glastonbury later, it appears the young rapper is getting on the board fast. But even with those accolades under his belt, finding quick success in America isn’t a given, and Tinie knows that. Between breaking the barriers at crossover radio without getting “too pop” while also getting acclimated with our snooty, regionally-structured hip hop scene, it would appear that his path is a bit steep.

When we sat down to interview Tinie earlier this month, he told us all about his transitional journey from overseas thus far. Lucky for him, some friends of ours helped him mentally prepare for this moment. While supporting The Script on tour in Australia, Tinie received a much-needed pep talk from the band that had experienced some tough American crowds of their own when they first made the North Atlantic journey. “Just brace yourself,” they told him, “some of the shows are going to be a little bit gun-wrenching.” The coached warning was helpful and wound up serving as an airbag when Tinie performed before crowds of ten to twenty thousand people one night, and then under one hundred the next. “It has been fun, and more than anything, it’s a humbling experience ‘cause is just shows that, you know, that you’ve never really made it until you’ve made it, and there’s always something more you can be doing, so, yeah, I like it… it’s all part of the game.”

Unless you’re an android, breakups are never easy. Although a bit tumultuous, The Script’s first video from Science & Faith was predominantly romantic and lovey-dovey (which matched with the song’s themes). But for the album’s second single, it seems the the Irish imports decided to go in a different direction.

A boys night out gets a little sloppy when lead singer Danny O’Donaghue drunkenly exits a bar with his loyal bandmates behind him. Stumbling and wasted, Danny surfs the wave of intoxication, screaming the lovesick lyrics to “Nothing” down the street to his (presumable) recent ex, who in this clip, doesn’t appear to be present. And hey, we’ve all been guilty of engaging in or receiving such behavior before, right? Drunk dialing, bitter Facebook posts, longing latenight email drafts… it happens! But what will come of the boys’ debauchery-ridden evening, Script fans? Come back on Thursday morning to see, when we’ll have the exclusive premiere for the full “Nothing” video here for you.

Phew! As we get close to putting a wrap on the first week of Big Morning Buzz Live, VH1′s new morning show, we wanted to take a few moments to remind you about one of the most interactive ways for you to talk to your favorite celebrities. The process could not be any more simple: First, submit a question for either our lovely host Carrie Keagan or any of our upcoming guests through the widget above or by visiting our Big Morning Buzz Live page on VYou.com. Then, kick back and wait for them to respond via webcam when they stop by our offices. Like we said, it doesn’t get much simpler than that!

Remember, if you have a specific question for a specific celebrity, just leave their name IN CAPS to denote that a particular question is intended for them. You can submit questions anonymously, but if you leave your email, you’ll receive a notification if and when one of the many stars that swing by our set answers your query. Just this week alone, celebs like Morgan Spurlock, Linda Perry, Lily Collins and Nick Offerman took the time to answer your questions. And next week, we’ll have people like Grace Potter (Tuesday), The Script (Wednesday), Christina Perri (Wednesday) and Matt Nathanson (Thursday) stopping by, so start submitting those questions!

We invited VH1 Top 20 host Jim Shearer to share his observations from VH1′s Best Cruise Ever, which featured more than a dozen bands and sailed from Tampa to Cozumel.

I’m on land again, which means VH1′s second annual Best Cruise Ever is now over. The Script was wonderful (my favorite live show during our four days at sea), I met a bunch of cool people who keep me employed by waking up early every Saturday morning to watch the Top 20 Countdown, I got to eat warm chocolate cake every night for dessert (mmm), and my band even got to play a couple of sets on the boat. I forgot to bring my diary on the cruise, so a pocket cam had to do. Here’s my recap. Enjoy! — Jim Shearer

Seeing as how The Script hail from Ireland and perform majestic pop-rock songs with soaring melodies, it makes perfect sense that many have compared the VH1 You Oughta Know band’s sound to U2. While only time will tell if The Script will be able to match the career longevity of Dublin’s favorite sons, the band clearly seems happy with the comparison. So much so, in fact, that they cast Bono’s daughter, Eve Hewson, as the lead in the video for “For The First Time,” the first single off the group’s second LP, Science & Faith. The song went to #1 in Ireland when it was released overseas back in August, but it’s just arriving on these shores now. The video will make its on-air this weekend on the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown, but thanks to the magic of streaming technology, you can watch it on your computer monitor ’til your heart’s content starting right this very second. Enjoy!
