As promised. Here’s a teaser for our Storytellers show that’s coming up on June 27 at 10 pm. The Texas Top really raise a ruckus with just guitar, bass, and drums, right? Watch ‘em rock “Sharp Dressed Man” and see what they have to say about taking direction from a homeless dude.

ZZ Top Storytellers also airs on VH1 Classic and Palladia on Saturday, July 4 at 9:00 pm ET.

Those three bearded dudes from Texas, the guys who like to splash around in the Rio Grande mud, are VH1′s next Storytellers guests. ZZ Top recently taped their show in Chicago, and it was rocking. It airs on Saturday, June 27 at 10 pm ET. It airs on VH1 Classic and Palladia on Saturday, July 4 at 9:00 pm ET.

Stay tuned: We’ll be posting a sneak performance of a Storytellers song this weekend.

The group was in rare form for this eventful gig.

The Texas trio answer questions from the audience, renew one couple’s wedding vows, and tell the stories behind such hits as “LaGrange” (about the real “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”) and “Sharp Dressed Man” (during the song’s video shoot a homeless personstarted critiquing everything on the set and band and crew went on to follow his advice). Also in the hour, guitarist Billy F Gibbons talks about the band’s travails as opening act for Janis Joplin and bassist Dusty Hill shows off his Walter Brennan imitation. The episode will feature the band revealing the inspiration and stories behind such classic hits as “Just Got Paid,” “Jesus Just Left Chicago,” “Gimme All Your Lovin’” and “Tush.”

Of course you don’t have all day to find out how ZZ Top got their start. So to ‘splain you this stuff, we’ve concocted a 60-second clip that illustrates how Dusty, Billy, and the guy without the beard came to be. Here’s the true genesis of that little band from Texas.

Our ramp-up to Rock Honors (May 24) always includes revealing chats with the heroes themselves. Here’s a recollection of on-stage shenanigans from ZZ Top.

The Texas Trio has earned itself lots of props for getting a big-ass sound. Three guys? With Billy Gibbons’ guitar wailing, sometimes they sound like six. But one thing’s for sure: It ain’t ZZ Top if Dusty Hill isn’t plugged in.

Previously we told you all about how this year’s VH1 Rock Honors Show — paying tribute to Heart, Genesis, Ozzy Osbourne and ZZ Top — was going to be hosted by Bam Margera in Vegas, airing live on VH1 and VH1 Classic on May 24th.

Qosa_150x200_2 Now we’re pleased to announce that rock mega-lords Queens of the Stone Age (guitarist Joshua Homme pictured, right) and metal mainstays Alice In Chains will be joining Nickelback, Gretchen Wilson and Keane in playing the life-altering songs of their musical forbearers — and Official Rock Gods.

Here’s how it breaks down: Alice In Chains and Gretchen Wilson (no relation), will honor Heart. Keane will get freaky with Genesis. Nickelback will interpret themselves some ZZ Top. And QOTSA? Josh Homme and crew will attempt to take on the blizzard of Ozz. (Not such a far stretch, considering that QOTSA’s first release featured Homme’s old band, Kyuss, covering “Into the Void.” But we digress.) In addition, expect special appearances from Cameron Diaz, Jada Pinkett Smith, Billy Bob Thornton, Robin Williams, Criss Angel and Taylor Hawkins. Who are you most excited to see?

Bam_150x150 You heard it here first — Bam Margera is set to host this year’s VH1’s Rock Honors show in Las Vegas. Airing on May 24th, just in time to buoy you through your long weekend, the Jackass mainstay and star of Bam’s Unholy Union will introduce to the stage this year’s honorees: the lovely ladies of Heart, the sharp-dressed men of ZZ Top, the crazy train that is Ozzy Osbourne and the no-jacket-required stylings of Genesis.

The two-hour extravaganza will also feature contemporary artists paying tribute to these legends of rock, including Nickelback, Gretchen Wilson and Keane. It’s set to blow the roof off the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas. If you don’t believe us, you don’t know Bam.
