We’re excited to announce that Dr. Drew Pinsky and his team are returning to VH1 in just a few short months to share their expertise with a new group of patients. The new group that will be checking into the recovery center aren’t celebrities, however, they’re regular folks like us who have sought out Dr. Drew’s help after seeing just how dedicated and successful his treatment with celebs has been. The show, Rehab With Dr. Drew, will premiere in September, and will feature counselors Bob Forrest, psychiatrist Dr. John Sharpe, and resident technicians Shelly Sprague and Jennifer Gimenez (who tweeted on Sunday that she was on set for day one, and honored to be back). For more information about the show, read on.

The stories of the patients of Celebrity Rehab are often about heartbreak, troubled pasts, and redemption, and this week, we’re (finally) taking a look at a few of the stars from the very first season of the series, whose stories combine all three. Dr. Drew Pinsky and Bob Forrest reconnected with four of the original celebrities to give us the first episode in a four-part series called Celebrity Rehab Revisited, and while their behavior in the past hasn’t always been stellar, they’ve all managed to prove to themselves and to us that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

The fifth season of Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew has been a rocky one to be sure. The Pasadena Recovery Center has housed one of the most tumultuous, volatile groups of celebs to date, and their graduation from the facility is fast-approaching.

The finale of season five airs this Sunday, August 21 at 9 p.m. (where did the time go?), but that doesn’t mean it’s the last we’re seeing of this crew. VH1 will also be airing a two-part special on September 4th and September 11th at 10 p.m. which will follow-up on this group’s progress and what kind of post-rehab life they’ve been living.

And later this fall, Dr. Drew and Bob Forrest will also be starring in a series of Celebrity Rehab specials to catch up with all the previous seasons’ patients, the definitive “Where Are They Now?” for everyone who’s been on the show. All the information and air dates for those shows are posted after the jump.

Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew is back for a fifth season, and we’re lucky enough to have the opportunity to talk about the show with Dr. Drew and some of the other staff at the Pasadena Recovery Center to get an inside look at the rehabilitation process. This week, we spoke with Jenn Gimenez and Dr. John Sharp about Sean Young and Jessica Kiper‘s re-entry into the real world, and the tragic death of Mike Starr.

This week we learned a lot about Sean Young’s backstory and how she and her husband both have drinking problems.

Sean’s situation is a really good example of a complex family system. In other words, we could see that as Sean was at home more, that her drinking increased, and part of that was that she was probably around and increasingly dissatisfied with where her career had brought her. The more free time she had, the easier it was for her to kind of drink a glass of wine when preparing dinner, and continue drinking throughout the night with no regrets that she drank too much, so she was looking at this and she was trying to decide how much of this she had to own up to, and how much of this was a addictive problem, she was really trying to come to terms with that.

But the interesting point is that rather than focus on that, she was looking at the same set of issues as they played out with her husband, and how they played out with him. Was he drinking too much, did one beer become four, or what would happen as the night went on? So we did want to help her by bringing him in to address this, but we didn’t want to only focus on him, because we understood that this was also an expression of her own kind of questions regarding herself.
